A decision by the U.N.'s cultural organization to admit Palestine as a member state set off a confrontation between the United States and the United Nations, threatening to strip Washington of influence in several key international agencies while cutting off a major source of contributions to the world body.
The Obama administration said it would cut off funding for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization just hours after the group on Monday voted 107-14 to accept the Palestinian Authority as a full member. The UNESCO action triggered U.S. laws from the early 1990s that bar Washington from giving money to any U.N. body that grants state status to Palestine.
Administration officials had made clear that they would prefer to have Congress avoid this collision with other U.N. members, stressing their support for the mission of UNESCO and the other U.N. agencies. But a long list of pro-Israel members of Congress of both parties declared that there would be no backing down on the law.
Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., the House majority leader, said the UNESCO vote was "an affront to the international peace process and an impediment to negotiations between the Israelis and Palestinians."
U.S. officials said they would block a planned payment of $60 million due to the group next month, and warned that they could be forced to halt payments for other U.N. groups as well if they accede to Palestinian requests for full membership.

Big deal; we’re not funding UNESCO. What are the chances that all funding to the UN is fungible and Ban Ki Moon can split it up any way he sees fit. The only solution is to relocate the UN to some third world hellhole like Mali and get the US out of it.

But still...fund one or the other...better still put the money in the hands of the people who need it. Not in the hands of the crooks.
And why billions? (shaking head)...tsk...tsk...and our dummy reps wonder where they can cut spending. 
If that's the case and Obama passes an executive order, contrary to a law already in place, then the Pubbies need to begin the impeachment process that very day. Unfortunately, most of them don't have the stones to do what's right which means "We" the people need to begin holding them and future elected officials accountable.
That’s OK, the Palestinian contributions will make up for it.
When do you think our Imperial Leader will sign a zecutiv order to override the actions of this law from Congress and give more monies to the Palis?
