AUGUSTA, GA - Orville Smith, a store manager for Best Buy in Augusta, Ga. told police he observed a customer, later identified as Tyrone Jackson of Augusta, on surveilance cameras putting a laptop computer under his jacket. When confronted the man became irate, knocked down an employee, drew a knife and ran for the door.
Outside on the sidealk were four Marines collecting toys for the Toys for Tots program. Smith said the Marines stopped the man, but he stabbed one of them, Cpt. Phillip Duggan, in the back; the injury did not appear to be severe.
After police and an ambulance arrived at the scene, Cpt. Duggan was taken for treatment.
"The subject was also transported to the local hospital with two broken arms, a broken ankle, a broken leg, several missing teeth, possible broken ribs, multiple contusions, assorted lacerations, a broken nose and a broken jaw ..... injuries he sustained when he slipped and fell off the curb after stabbing the Marine," according to a police report.
“. . .injuries he sustained when he slipped and fell off the curb after stabbing the Marine.”
Gotta wonder how much help he had from the other three Marines as he “slipped and fell”.
Wow, they have high curbs there. I wonder how many times he fell off? Kept picking himself up and falling again and again. Weird how things like that happen. Good thing the Marines were there to help him up all those times.
I love it.
What’s really, really surprising is that the ULEO didn’t shoot the Marines on sight for felony assault, like they did out at the Costco in Las Vegas.
Yup, injuries sound about right for a pratfall, er, I mean curb fall. The vermin is lucky to have been found alive. That ‘curb’ showed great restraint.
Snopes says: “Partly True” (unfortunately, not the best parts):

It's an actual news story with an extra paragraph interpolated.
See here: Stabbed Marine
Snopes does have its uses -- they found the original story.
Aw, you’re no fun anymore!
I suspect he slipped and fell, and slipped and fell, and slipped and fell, and slipped and ...........
Never bring a knife to a Marine Toys for Tots Drive.

This story made my day, LOL that was just so so before LOL
Why, yes, officer. He just slipped and fell off that curb all by himself. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
The real story:
On 26 November 2010 at about 1:15 p.m., those manning the surveillance cameras at a Best Buy in Augusta, Georgia, spotted a shopper cutting a Dell laptop computer from its packaging and stuffing it down his pants.
According to police, store security personnel approached the suspect, 39-year-old Tracey Attaway of Waynesboro, Georgia, and asked him to return the merchandise.
Attaway became angry, released the laptop, and ran out the front door, pulling a knife and knocking down a Best Buy employee in the process.
Outside the store’s entrance were four Marines and seven volunteers collecting donations for Toys for Tots.
One of them, Cpl. Phillip Duggan, clotheslined the running man, bringing him to the ground.
The assailant regained his feet and swung his knife, stabbing Duggan, then was quickly tackled by several other Marines and members of the store’s loss-prevention team, who held him in the parking lot until deputies arrived.
The injured Marine was taken to Eisenhower Army Medical Center and released after receiving stitches.
He was well enough the next day to drop off a toy for donation at a nearby Walmart.
Cpl. Duggan’s attacker, Tracey Attaway, was jailed and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a knife in the commission of a crime.
He was denied bond.
great story! thanks
Yes, the most relevant one. I repeat, I hate getting duped. I just feel downright foolish, sorta like a democrat must feel all the time.
apparently...”HE MESSED WITH THE WRONG MARINE.”
This guy should get an honorable mention in this year's Darwin Awards. How stupid is it to stab a Marine with three of his buddies nearby?
