The latest person expressing a bit of doubt about the authenticity of Barack Obama's purported birth certificate is none other than Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
The Republican presidential hopeful is the subject of a long question-and-answer report in today's edition of Parade Magazine.
The relevant portion concerning the issue of the president's eligibility was addressed briefly in this transcript:
Q: Governor, do you believe that President Barack Obama was born in the United States?
Perry: I have no reason to think otherwise.
Q: That's not a definitive, "Yes, I believe he"
Perry: Well, I don't have a definitive answer, because he's never seen my birth certificate.
Q: But you've seen his.
Perry: I don't know. Have I?
Q: You don't believe what's been released?
Perry: I don't know. I had dinner with Donald Trump the other night.
Q: And?
Perry: That came up.
Q: And he said?
Perry: He doesn't think it's real.

Who’s on first?
I’m here for an argument.
No you’re not.
This is one of the most garbled interviews I’ve ever read. He’s gonna be great during those debates with Obama.
Win the election and then revisit everything Obama!
assume it is real...
move to the next question, which they don’t want you to ask
since we have the only ‘official’ document showing 0bama’s father was a british citizen at the time of his birth...
exactly how can he be a natural born citizen? native born, sure. but how is it possible for him to be a natural born citizen if both parents are not US citizens??
Absolutely.
“You can question the merits of Capitalim. But you had better believe Obama has a US Birth Cirtificate!”
There are a good number of Freepers here who will arrogantly say the same thing and bash anyone who says otherwise.
The American people had better realize that they got snookered by their own government.
Perry is beating a dead horse as far as I am concerned.
Here in Florida folks are seeing Perry as being mean spirited and too full of himself. He just does not resonate with conservatives at all.
The interview was pretty long, and I don’t remember anything particularly garbled in the Parade Magazine article I read. Are you referring to the short quip posted here from WND, or did you read the Parade magazine article.
Nobody in my family found it garbled.
It’s funny how people here are focusing on his joking about Obama’s birth certificate. Because he had some funnier lines. Like the reporter said “here is an easy question” and Perry said “Sure. Blue”. The reporter, apparently puzzled, says “what?” and Perry said “I thought you were going to ask me what my favorite color was”.
Later, the reporter asks about Al Gore, and asks “did you see the movie inconvenient truth” or read the book? Perry responds — “No. I generally dont watch or read a lot of fiction.”
He also had a good quip about the question “Have you experimented with drugs”? Response: “No, maam. Not unless you call caffeine a drug. Or cold beer or whiskey”
Overall, a good interview.
And, of course, the other problem with impeachment is that, ironically, you have to acknowledge that he’s the president in order to impeach him.
Maybe this is a case of “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours”.
In any case it’s a goofy response from Perry.
Well what about if he were born while the mother was sliding into home plate at Yankee Stadium during the World Series?
On the White House Lawn on the 4th of July while the Marine Band played the Star Spangled Banner?
On top of Old Smoky?
On a surfboard steered by Duke Kamehahaha?
Delivered by Dr. Ben Casey on top of Liberace's piano in Las Vegas?
Lissen up ASA Vet, we have been fortunate enough to witness one of the greatest flim-flam con games ever played. First, the Natural Born Citizen thing has been ended by a sort of "gentlemen's agreement," without benefit of constitutional amendment.
Don't believe me? Simply notice how many freepers are already on the Rubio bandwagon!
Somehow this eligibility issue became a "Where was he born?" thing, as if geography trumped (pardon the expression) the citizenship of the parents. If our putative POTUS were given to doing the "Right and Honorable Thing" he would send every "Birther" a check for $100,000 of Stimulus Money. They deserve every cent, because they sure helped the SOB bury the Constitutional issue.
Of course Perry, who seems a rougher version of John Edwards, is correct. Nobody knows what the hell is going on. I wish that Trump and his Billions? were used to ask the question, "WTF is a Natural Born Citizen?" and get the SCOTUS to answer that question.
