Newt Hits a Grand Slam at Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition; Perry Surprises me

The Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition Fall Banquet today:

Herman Cain, as usual, was inspiring. Michele Bachmann, did well; same stump speech talking points but she did o.k.; she seemed tired. Rick Perry did ten-times better than he did in the Debates; receiving tepid applause upon entry and rousing applause as he left the stage. But, per my observation, only one, got a "standing" ovation when he left the stage and that was Newt Gingrich.

I have always thought Newt was a political genius but felt like he just wasn't the guy to carry the banner for the GOP in 2012. But, every time I hear the guy, I agree with everything he says. And he says it with ease, conviction and passion. At the Banquet this evening, he knocked it out of the park. The crowd gave him numerous, rousing ovations; especially when he said: "I will challenge Presdient Obama to seven (7) Lincoln/Douglas-style Presidential Debates of three of (3) hours in length with a timekeeper but no moderator. And, I will allow the President to use his teleprompter." The crowd went wild.

I'm seriously giving Newt another look. I think he will make President Clueless look like the doofus brain he is and can win this thing in 2012.

I really liked Newt’s speech and Q&A as well.

If we stay together in the grassroots behind Cain, he can beat Romney.

If our votes get split off in different directions, Romney will win for sure.

You’re right, but after SC, it will be whittled down to Cain, Romney and Newt. Then it gets serious baby and the Conservatives will out poll the RINOs. I look for Cain or Newt to win Iowa; for real. Romney takes NH and then they start dropping like flies. Nevada will probably go Romney and SC will go Cain. Then, watch the Conservatives come out enmasse.

Herman Cain will make a great VP, and learn what he needs to know about governing. Then in eight years..
Then in 8 years, he'll be 73 years old.

And they are both still from Georgia.

No thinking person thinks that a guy who was GA 6th District Congressman for 20+ years isn’t “from Georgia”. I don’t care where he lives now.

I agree, they were stupid moves. Now, however, is do we look beyond that and get him elected, or focus only on his mistakes.

I'm glad that God forgave my "mistakes" of the past and doesn't focus on them but focuses on my potential to not make the same mistakes again and be what He designed me to be. Unlike 95% of my FReeper brothers and sisters, I've made some "stupid moves" in the past. I wish that Newt, and I, was a perfect as the people on this website, but, we're not.

For the time being I am supporting Newt. I just haven’t seen anything from the other candidates that rises to his level of intelligence and grasp of the issues. Gingrich/Cain has a nice ring to it.

He has some sort of repulsion to some however, and I can't figure out why.

Well, confession is good for the soul, (chuckle, chuckle) so let me confess. To be honest with you: His wife looks a little scary. (Not sure how many face lifts she's had.) At first sight, she comes across like a hoity-toity rich b**ch. But, I saw her in an interview the other night and she is a "female" version of Newt. Very intelligent. I should not have even considered that, but, couldn't help it. Spouses have been known to hurt the hubby's election chances. Kitty Dukakis and Thersa Heinz Kerry come to mind. But, I think Mrs. Newt will be o.k.

According to the Constitution, it doesn't matter what state the candidate is "from" - it matters where they establish residency currently.

Lincoln was born in Kentucky but was considered an Illinois resident when elected president. Reagan was born in Illinois but was considered resident of California...so on and so on.

Newt and Herman can be on the same ticket. Newt’s residence is McClean, VA, Herman’s is Atlanta, GA so no problem.

Your assessment of the situtation makes sense to me.

Nevada has a Paulista contingent that will put up a big fight, but I rate Romney as the one most likely to win.

New Hampshire is a place where Romney leads and has to win.

South Carolina has great promise for Herman Cain and Iowa is one that Cain is likely to win.

Florida is in this mix on Janaury 31st and that looks to be a Cain win at this point.

Perry isn’t a good debater. He is a good speaker. Not a dumb man, just not quick on his feet.

I understand Constitutional requirements quite well, thank you, but that is not what we are talking about here, is it?

From the standpoint of effectively using a VP to get favorable favorite son treatment in the election, Newt is not a Virginian.

" I think Cain could get it done, but we would be gambling with an unknown. Newt is not an unknown."

That's exactly the problem with Newt!! The MSM will rip him apart if he's the nominee. They will dredge up all in anti-Conservative spiel that he's been spouting - before he decided to do the 'Conservative' swing exactly in time for the 2012 eledtion.
