Rep. Darrell Issa, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, sent a subpoena Wednesday to Attorney General Eric Holder as part of his investigation into the gun trafficking operation known as "Fast and Furious." "Top Justice Department officials, including Attorney General Holder, know more about Operation Fast and Furious than they have publicly acknowledged," the California Republican said in a statement. "The documents this subpoena demands will provide answers to questions that Justice officials have tried to avoid since this investigation began eight months ago. It's time we know the whole truth." The subpoena seeks, among other things, all communications regarding the operation from 16 top Justice officials, including Holder, his chief of staff, Gary Grindler, and the head of the department's criminal division, Lanny Breuer, as well as correspondence on specific dates to and from the former head of the ATF's Phoenix field division, William Newell. It also asks for all documents and communications referring or relating to the murder of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement Agent Jaime Zapata, including any correspondence outlining the details of Zapata's mission at the time he was murdered. Congressional investigators are demanding information regarding the investigation into the death of U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry.

When i read your post I was thinking the same thing. But then my next thought was that the shredding and deleting parties were held back in the day.
These days, with everything in emails and memos written on PCs.....means nothing ever goes completely away. Unless you are very, very careful. These guys are clearly not that careful.
DI: Well, Hugh, this is often called Project Gunrunner, because it was really about knowingly, deliberately letting guns be sold to straw purchasers who were going to supply them to the narco-terrorist groups on both sides of the border, and they did. And even at our discovery, our investigation, which is now, you know, 20 subpoenas, incredible amount of depositions, leading up to the office of the Attorney General, has shown us that this was authorized at the highest level...DI: It started with, literally, the political appointees, many of whom had to approve specifics of this, including funding. And understand, there were agents at the ATF who have testified that they believe this was a good program. And there are agents who gave up their careers, basically, by refusing to be involved in it. So it was controversial. But it’s not about the agents in Arizona, or a similar program in Texas. It’s about the approvals all the way back in Washington.
HH: Is there any evidence that Attorney General Holder approved the selling of these guns?
DI: There is evidence all the way up to Lanny Brewer in the office, a very famous name from the past. And he is an immediate assistant of Eric Holder. President Obama, as a good lawyer, used his terms very carefully. He said neither I nor Attorney General Holder authorized this program. There’s a long way between authorized and knew.
HH: Has Attorney General Holder appeared in front of your committee yet?
DI: He has not. As a matter of fact, they have been refusing to even go through depositions voluntarily. We had a deal with them, and candidly, they reneged on it the moment my plane was off the ground. So far, we have had to issue more subpoenas on this than all others combined in all other investigations. This has been the real investigation where you can see the stonewalling, and you can see it for a reason. People got people killed, and they were people who are appointed by this President

I think we need to throw a monkey wrench into their operation worse than we need to let it trickle out. Hell, we need to be throwing everything we HAVE at them, including the kitchen sink.
I would not be surprised to see Mr. O’Reilly get hit with an IED and come back to the US in pieces.

Yeah, the enforced austerity measures are certain to get people riled up, but I guess we’ve kicked the can down the road to some extent on that one. Or not.
I’d read in the last couple of weeks here on FR that Melson gave Issa a flash/thumb drive with *everything* on it when he testified on July 4th.
I cant remember what the thread was titled or who the FReeper was that made that comment.

If it is the Iran Caper, there was NO trip to Mehico. There was an FBI guy in an office in Houston who was pretending to be a zeta mrmber in Mehico. HE as the one who transferred money into this dip’s account...twice.
There was no Mehican involvement EXCEPT that the idiot got on a plane to go to Mehico to actually MEET with the other dip who he thought was a zeta member.
THEN the DOJ contacted the Mehican government and told them that a wanted fugitive was on board, so the Mehican government refused to allow the plane to land and turned it back around to come back to the US. That’s when they arrested the booger LAST MONTH.
DOJ, FBI, CIA, DEA, NSA, DHS, BATF, ICE, State Department, White House.
I think it’s too late for shredders and disappearing computers. The fact that these subpoenas mention specific dates and items sought tells a number of important things:
1. It’s not a fishing expedition;
2. We know what we want;
3. We already have copies, we just want you to confirm the existence of the items;
4. Now you know that we have them, and
5. If you don’t produce the items, we will still confront you with our copies and it will be shown that you have attempted to conceal or destroy evidence.
In other words, Mr. Holder, you are well and truly hosed. You can choose your poison, but poison it will be.
