“The thing that bothers me is that she used to look professional before she was McCain’s running mate but she decided she’d rather act the part of a redneck mom and the other events in her life seemed to reinforce that image.”

She IS a ‘redneck mom’. Why is that a bad thing in a world full of ivy league geniuses that have led America to it’s current state? WE NEED more ‘rednecks’ in government and less of what we have. Looks accomplish nothing. Actions and results are what matter. And rednecks are known for ‘get’er done’ attitudes.

Did you see the one claiming that millions of children wished that Sarah was their mother?

She is. But this country is very focused on image and she fit a picture that doesn’t look very professional. It’s hard to take someone seriously if she doesn’t look professional even if she is 100% spot on. The thing that bothers me is that she used to look professional before she was McCain’s running mate but she decided she’d rather act the part of a redneck mom and the other events in her life seemed to reinforce that image.

You and I have a complete opposite understanding of what is professional, rather than the appearance of being professional. The overwhelming majority of Americans voted for the most professional, intellectual experts, on the redistribution of our wealth in our nation's history. And you call Sarah plain and simple....

Great post Sir, sums up the day so far.

Your last line in it pretty much sums up what we face.

Never said it was a bad thing. It’s just not going to sell in America. I knew she was in for trouble the day she felt she had to return all those nice outfits the RNC gave her. It may be totally superficial but she was playing right into a psychological trap. She no longer looked like someone who could be taken seriously as President. It became very easy for the media to add more reasons to the list.

“What about her image makes her less professional now than she was before ? The way she dresses ? what do you mean ?”

yes, lots of things. She made quite a few mistakes.

Well, I sure didnt see anything abnormal about her appearance and image ?

If what you are saying is true. Can a Republican woman ever be elected President ? and does the next Republican need to do differently ? look and dress like Barbara Bush ?

Norm, thank you for a well thought post. I posted my heart on another thread, and it isn’t as rational or thought out as yours was.

As much as I’d agree with you about Cain, I am afraid he will never see the inside of the Oval Office unless it’s on a tour. Not that he isn’t a good man and a fine American with some great ideas, because he is. However, Barry the Boob has forever poisoned the idea of a black man in the White House.

At it’s most base form, I can just see a couple of good ol’ boys, sitting on a porch somewhere, and one saying to the other “Ain’t no way in Hell we ever gonna let another n****r in the White House.” Crass, yes...but I’ll bet that’s the mindset of a LOT of people...and even in the hierarchy of the GOP.

I wasn’t part of that group flinging insults though I do think both sides were responsible. I simply don’t understand the concept of going on threads for the sole purpose of snarking and degrading people, especially if you know it’s just going to cause problems. If you check my posts you’ll see that I spent a lot of time urging people to stop. So when you say “you rabid Palin supporters” that also insults me and I tried to stay out of the fray.

Sure, I’m disappointed but I think it will turn out to be another smart decision on her part. We do need to get more conservatives at all levels of government and she’s a tireless campaigner that draws large crowds and can really fire them up. And as I’ve said before (though not totally seriously, but still) I’d love to see her be Secretary of State. The left would twist their panties in a wad and she wouldn’t be a patsy at the UN. I actually think she’d be wasted as a senator because I think she’s needed nationally.

The Gardisil isn’t a big deal to me. If I had a daughter I’d probably have her take it. My concerns with Perry are how is he going to square his illegal immigrant policies in TX with being a border hawk (it’s what we need). I wasn’t wild about the “heartless” remark but he does get tongue tied and probably wouldn’t have said it if he could think more quickly. Hopefully he’s practicing. And I’d like to understand why he’s breaking a promise to his state...he said this several times at one debate). It may be a very principled reason but this is as big a deal breaker for me as the Palin resigning thing is for others. I’m impressed she put her state ahead of her career. She had to know it would damage her. And since then she’s been a real asset to us.

I have my concerns about Cain too but he seems more conservative than Perry. However, if you think about it, they have complementary skills: one is from government, one from the private sector, etc. I think they would be an unbeatable team (of course I also thought Palin would get into the race so my political instincts probably aren’t that sharp). Anyway, there’s a lot to think about now. I’m sure some of the people supporting second tier candidates will be disappointed.

Do you want to understand why she wasn’t going to win? Image matters in this country. I didn’t make this rule up. I would love it if most Americans decided to curl up with a copy of the Federalist Papers but that’s not the reality.

She is a beautiful woman. If image matters so much, I would think it would have worked in her favor !

I do not doubt for a second that there are those that feel that way. I consider them to be liberals regardless of their stated affiliation and thus Pieces OS. Screw them. I’m going to vote for the most Conservative person available and I could care less what color he is.

And if Utopia burns, so be it. That only means America truly is over.

Of course a Republican woman can be elected. I’m not saying she has to be like some elitist snob who goes to the Opera every week like Georgette Mosbacher.
All Palin had to do was act the same way she acted when she was governor of Alaska BEFORE she was picked to be VP.

We will never know IF she would have won as she is not running. Old two timing lord McCain almost won because she was on his ticket. Personally, I think she made the right decision, her family should come first. Her little ones are her first obligation and I admire her for keeping her first priority in her grasp.

The Heavenly Father is in control and it just maybe we Americans have not learn a lesson of how it is we are where we are. I can assure you it is NOT a lack of the image of professionalism.

She can still be a leader. She’s brash, unafraid and a tireless supporter of conservatives & the tea party. And she will campaign hard for conservatives at all levels. She’s still a rock star and can draw crowds who love to hear her speak (her speeches are fabulous). You watch, she’ll be a big asset in this election. And I do think the presidency would necessarily stunt her message but she says (and believes) things we all do with boldness, even as of late, getting accolades for her plan to help the country. It was very smart.

On the ‘image’ thing.

Once upon a time it was the height of fashion for men to wear platform shoes, shoulder width collars and bell bottoms. Image comes and goes.

Once upon a time women had 3 foot beehive hairdoos and pillbox hats, wearing enough blue eyeshadow to make the sky envious.

Reality is what we make it. If we as a people say screw the BS that we have been fed regarding image etc, it holds no power. But enough people have to be willing to think for themselves. Perhaps someday enough people will have had their fill of having ‘reality’ dictated to them by someone other than themselves.

That money set aside could be sent on to SarahPac to be used to get other conservatives elected around the country.

Your post 945 was very helpful to me. Thank you.

Sarah to me was the one person who could have led a Conservative tidal wave over this country and brought it back from the abyss.

She was fearless when it came to Obama, and took him on constantly, when the feckless GOP was wetting its pants daily.

She is responsible for John Boehner getting his gavel back, and she got nothing in return, not even the thanks fo the GOP.

I thought her to be the one outsider, not bought, who could bring a revival back to America, like Reagan did in 1980.

I looked forward to seeing Sarah Palin unleashed and unhandled.

She is heads and shoulders above every one of the present candidates. And she best embodied our core beliefs as American conservatives.

Her decision NOT to run was not made until recently, in my opinion. I saw something in her eyes tonight on Greta that I have not seen before. A look of defeat or fear, I cannot tell which. Something went down, and I don’t know what.

Her character is such that she did NOT string people along.

I also see 2012 as the last chance America has to remain a free country. We are under assault daily by Obama and his regime, and the country remains in danger until January 20, 2013 at the earliest.

Sarah to me represented our Esther, and I make no apologies for that analogy.

Indeed it is in my tagline for over a year, and this post will be its last appearance.

We lost a great light for good tonight with her decision not to run. She outshines anyone on those debate platforms.
She will not have the same effectiveness she had before tonight, because she always represented a threat to the Establishment, and that was part of her appeal.

And that is why they fought so hard against her. They feared her alone, not anyone else the GOP could field.

I am sorely disappointed tonight. I can see dark days ahead for America, not the least of which is a financial collapse that is looming. I see violence coming, and a day when the sunshine patriot will once again flee.

I have never seen such a bright beacon since Reagan, except for her. Even in 1980 the enemy was outside.

Now, the enemy is inside the gates, and none of the present candidates even understand this.

I see a lot of folks going to Cain. All well and good, but we still don’t understand that as Conservative, we are the enemy to the GOP RINO establishment.

If the RINOS succeed again like they did in 2008, it is the end for the GOP.

Anyway, today is a new political reality, and it must be adjusted to. Sarah put her family first, and who can blame her. She has stoically stood in the path of fire for over three years now. No one else has withstood the vile attacks she has had to endure.

God bless her and her family.

Absolutely. And I think that what she has done endeared herself to Republicans from all over the country. There are many Americans in red states who are Republicans but they didn’t appreciate what it truly meant to be conservative until she spoke out to them and I think that’s why we have a much more conservative crowd in the House.

You describe exactly how I feel.

We have people here like Ari with talk about “image”.. making it seem like this is the 1990s. These are way different times. People didn’t care what Franklin Roosevelt looked like when he was elected in 1932. They were angry and they wanted the economy to come back.
