I have the DVD on order at Amazon and ordered the “Palin’s Alaska” series as well.
I agree, but it is for the Palin fanatics. Seriously, read C4P sometime. The place is like some sort of twisted house of Sarah worship. She can literally do no wrong with most of these people, and anyone questioning anything about her or her supposed genius (and as yet to be seen) campaign strategy is met with intense hostility and rage. It'll remind you that, sadly, people of all ideologies are capable of sliding into the cult of personality trap. You'd hope more from conservatives, but nope, human nature is what it is and even folks on our side are susceptible to it.
That's true for candidates who are relative unknowns outside their own states, or spheres of influence. Not so for Palin, who has 100% name recognition with voters. Her views aren't exactly a secret, either.
She hasn't missed anything by staying out of the race until now, except being associated with all of the warfare between the candidates. And the 'debates' have turned out to be little more than MSM orchestrated inquisitions. None of the presumed front runners have benefited from being involved in them, although some of the second tier candidates have.
If Palin steps into the race (and I think she will), she will have plenty of opportunities to debate the remaining contenders. If her past performances are any measure, she'll also do well in them.
Well, in AK, when Sarah ran for Gov., they were. And frankly, the way McCain's folks started throwing Sarah UNDER the campaign bus, just before the election of 2008, didn't make them look any better.
I don't believe the entire Republican Party is corrupt, but frankly SOME are, and we need to clean them OUT of it. If Sarah does decide to run for President, we'll find out who those folks are, because they'll be working hard, trying to derail her efforts.
Is THIS what you mean?
You’d hope more from conservatives, but nope, human nature is what it is and even folks on our side are susceptible to it.”
I think it would be conceptually correct for us to say that folks who slide into a personality cult are not really conservatives. They may line up right on many/most of the “conservative” policy issue points of the day. But that doesn’t make one a conservative.
A conservative is fundamentally opposed to ideology, and fundamentally opposed to “let’s pretend”. So anything that gives answers before questions are asked...that is usually something that is bordering on ideology, and true conservatives have nothing to do with ideology.
(Of course all that said, that means that there aren’t a LOT of true conservatives out there in the world...and alas that would be true. But America’s Founders certainly were....and they were definitely on the lookout for cults of personality...)
I think he changed the name to "The Panderosa".
Here’s the trick. SP isn’t ever going to say that she isn’t running because if she were to do so, she would be just as relevant as Dana Perino, or any other paid talking head at Fox.
As these deadlines pass, SP will start making cryptic remarks that don’t necessarily rule out a 3rd party/write-in run in attempt to leverage a speaking at the RNC. If she doesn’t get a primetime slot, expect her phantom candidacy to continue right to the end.
Palin says that she might be more influential as an independent person rather than an office holder.
She’s hasn’t had much to say lately. Is that the way someone would behave who seeks to be influential as an independent political figure?
Here’s another thought. Since her debut with McCain she’s slugged it out with formidable opposition, overcome it, and acquired millions of admirers that want her to run and will abandon her if she doesn’t. She’s worked hard to achieve this respect and influence. She’s done what very few politicians throughout our history have been able to do. Is she going allow this great accomplishment to serve no purpoase other than her celebrity?
She’s a rare individual. She’s a born leader. That’s her history. What’s she going to do now? Turn herself into another type of person? Lose the stature and the following she’s worked so hard to build? Abandon the playing field that she loves and has been so successful on and move to the sidelines as an analyst or commentator?
Has the fire in her belly turned out to be indigestion, or gone out?
Here’s another sign of leadership assuming she’s going to run. No one on her team has breathed a word about what’s going to happen. How does she maintain that level of discipline? Compare that the to McCain campaign.
The truth of her recent words is being borne out, namely, that “the field is not set”. Most of the announced candidates were at one point riding high, and then knocked back as their ideas and past actions were exposed to criticism. What would Sarah Palin have gained by announcing earlier?
Is she going to let the frustration among some of her followers build and then give them a final smack by moving to the sidelines. Doesn’t sound like Sarah Palin to me.
It is so annoying to see Perino (on The Five) at Beck's time-slot. A side from being a RINO what wisdom can she possibly share after that last train wreck?
Ahhhh, yes, Easter eggs!.... lol You are funny!
Perhaps. I am not so sure. I think ones politics doesn't define whether they will fall into that particular trap. I know many very smart, intellectually solid conservatives (both men and women) who fall blindly in love with someone who is clearly abusive or an otherwise bad apple - yet they will often refuse to see it for a very long time. With cult of personality like behavior, I think we are dealing more with emotion than logic.
I was going to wait till it comes on Showtime or TMC. How about uploading it to youtube for us(in segments) ? That would work better than the house party idea given above.
What?
You're comparing Sarah Palin to bossmechanic?
Really?
LOL!
The Utah deadline is October 15, 2011 for the Republican primary.
I’m positive she is going to declare next week.
“They pretty much inferred that the whole Republican party is corrupt and unethical.”
I thought that was Sarah’s greatest strength...truth, even when it hurts.
“They pretty much inferred that the whole Republican party is corrupt and unethical.”
I think you mean implied.
As an institution, it is corrupt.
Conservatives vote Republican over Democrat because it is better to eat skunk than to eat poisoned carrion skunk, not because they enjoy skunk in any form.
Not true. 100% name regognition is great as long as it is all positive. People who know who she is and don’t care for her are seeing nothing new about Palin. Those are the people that she would be seeking to change their minds.
All the wait has done was give them more fuel to not take her seriously.
Her views on specific policy positions are far from being well known. Especially on controversial issues.
Until she states her positions straight out of her mouth, she is unknown.
She basically told you the other night that she isn’t going to run. She doesn’t feel the need for a title. She also said that the job would keep her from being who she is. For her, she would have to hire some of the people she knows she would need that would constrict her.
Newt has name recognition, not all positive, but he has actually moved up by his debate performances and ideas.
You're so on to her Lou.
(I guess it's say anything day here at FR.)
