ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - A rogue fishing vessel caught in the North Pacific four weeks ago was stranded off the coast of Alaska on Monday while authorities prepared to remove the crew and kill a large number of rats on board, a U.S. Coast Guard spokeswoman said.
>
The rats found on board pose another environmental problem: Potential invasion by a nonnative species that could wipe out large numbers of Alaska seabirds and other natural life.
>
The case is challenging for law-enforcement because the ship is not registered in any country, Francis said.
The crew claimed the ship was registered as Indonesian, but the Indonesian government denied such registration, she said. "At that point they became stateless," she said.

How about just towing the derelict vessel back out to see and sinking her? Problem solved.
If it has no registry, then no one will care if we tow it out to deep water and simply sink it.
Sink the stinkin’ boat! Problem solved.
Great minds think alike!
A rat infested ship? Sounds like the White House.
I thought this thread was about Palin's efforts to clean out government.
Thinking of the two main parties: the party of "Can" and the party of "Rat".
But the rats - “Watership Down”?
“nuke it from orbit, it’s the only way to be sure.”
Tow her out to sea and send her to the bottom.
Yes, if it was way out, rats can swim..It would have to go really far far out
Could use some Rustoleum.
If the ship is “stateless”... and I assume that means no country/person wants to claim it as theirs... perhaps it can be used as some sort of training vessel for the military. Let them blow it sky high and use it as a training session. (of course, I am probably the only one who thinks PETA will step in and declare that the rats must be saved immediately)
nuke it from orbit, its the only way to be sure.

Best movie quote ever... except for: “Ya!... But it’s a DRY HEAT!
Rats are smart MFs; if you connect towing lines to that ship someone better stand by with pest shot or your own ship will soon have the infestation.
Even if you did that the sheer number coming down that li e might overwhelm the shooter. There's no way I'd take that job if it were my ship.
These rats in the boat must be saved! The rats in D.C.......................not so much.
RATS can Swim.....
