Herman Cain leaving the campaign trail: Why now?

Herman Cain leaving the campaign trail: Why now?

Herman Cain is surging in popularity in a number of polls. So why is Herman Cain putting his campaign on hold for the next month?

The Hermantor Experience is, by almost any measure, the hottest thing going in the GOP presidential primary (not named Chris Christie).

< snip>

But Cain seems destined to squander it. And here’s why.

As NBC’s thoughtful First Read points out this morning, Cain's promoting a book - and appears to be taking himself off the campaign trail for almost a month.

Cain won’t be back in the key state of Iowa until November. With all of the jiggering of the Republican primary calendar, that means he’ll have six weeks (at best) to pound the trail before the Iowa caucuses in early January.

Perhaps equally telling, Cain's well-regarded communications director and her deputy are both leaving the campaign, with the director headed to… run press operations for Louisiana Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne in a tough primary election. That’s not exactly a vote of confidence in Cain’s presidential prospects.

< snip>

When you peel off the campaign trail for four weeks in the heat of the fight, it raises questions about just what the heck a candidate is doing in the race anyway. ....

< snip>

When you take yourself off the campaign trail just to flog a book, it raises the question: Why are you still around, Herman Cain? And what’s the real motive behind this run?

WTH are you talking about? The truth of the next 24 hours will show the absolute idiocy of this article and this post. Just sit back and be shamed. .....C. Edmund Wright

Well, I have been called a “liar” by many folks on this thread but the articles are starting to appear on Advanced Google search ("Last 24 hours" setting). More should appear as time passes.

Duplication over and over does not a case make. Try some new URLs, you might get better traction that way....

The part of that statement that I disagreed with was the “most of FR supported Romney because was better than McCain.” I just included the complete sentence for clarity. I don’t believe that Romney ever had much support on FR.

I really do not remember much support but I do remember that I posted videos showing Romney trying to be more liberal than Ted Kennedy. :-)

I don’t believe that Romney ever had much support on FR.

Neither did McCain.

None of the execrable 2008 field enjoyed anything resembling broad and deep support on FreeRepublic. Fred Thompason was a brief favorite. In the end, Huckabee, the charming charlatan, was probably the most popular.

Romney and McCain hardly moved the needle. And, once nominated, McCain redlined the disappointment meter.

Citizen Herman Cain HAS to go through this "fire". I knew it was coming. He knew it was coming.

You don't get flak unless you are over the target.

This will be a moment of high lib media/blogosphere anti-Cain intensity as his support and coffers and national name ID grows exponentially. You kidding? Leno? Hannity? The View? CBS TV on Sunday? People are going to catch on. Boy are they going to catch on. Sarah Palin had to go through the whole darned thing, too. They hate her. They hate him. However, what is certain, is this is going to be a Tea Party/prairie fire politically from coast-to-coast. And MAN can I dig that baby. It must totally frost Mr. Obama's nuts, I'll tell ya what.

It is a mathematical if not philosophical "given" the man Herman Cain must go through these stupid, groundless, if not cruel and dishonest attacks and spins and attack-narrative, and this whole overall test. It means we are doing something right. I means we are gaining. It means we are stepping or rice bowls left and right (an old Asian saying), we are knocking down sacred cows.

This is all to be expected.

Just remember Gandhi's quotes about the stages one must go through to get to victory. We are in those initial stages now and it will build, but with it will build the resolve of Cain's supporters (and the candidate himself, I am convinced of his fire in the belly and teflon-qualities mentally), until he is the nominee of our Party for 2012. It will happen. Take that to the BANK.

Cain just brought in a top tier communications director JD Gordon (Pentagon/Rumsfeld spokesman) - he started today.

Cain's new director of communications is no top tier communications director what-so-ever.

He was in public relations in the military, and that is the only reason he was associated with Donald Rumsfeld who would have been the Secretary of Defense during his military career.

After his military retirement a couple years back, Gordon then started his own PR business and spent those couple of years advising Sarah Palin, and you see where THAT got her.

Oh yea, a real top-tier communications director indeed.

He joined today.

Uh, may we give the man at least 48 hours to prove whether or not he is a total failure? /sarc

Sure, but if he advises Cain the way he advised Sarah Palin, we'll be seeing Herman Cain say he's taking a month off or so before telling us for sure he is going to run or not! LOL

And I remember that at that time, The wikipedia listing of the term “RINO” gave as examples Mitt Romney, as well as about six or eight other well known rino’s. I see that wiki doesn’t list them anymore. There were even pictures then.

"And, once nominated, McCain redlined the disappointment meter. "

The way I remember that was Juan McCain was almost universally despised on FR, even prior to nomination, with Romney not too far behind, as well as Newt.

I’ve been thinking...

I’ll give his new Communications Director 48 hours, and we’ll see how he does.

Then I’ll give you my thoughts about his performance next... uh ... mmmmm... say next Easter. Maybe next Memorial Day. Or maybe on Constitution Day 2015.

Up for the job?

In regards to what?

Cain's endorsement article of Romney prior to Super Tuesday?

No matter what the URL, the text is the same.

In regards to what?

The book tour?

Is it not perfectly clear, from the multiple source I posted that Cain IS already on a book tour after many on this thread claimed that such a thing was a lie?

LOL! Thanks for the laugh... So true...

Cain is the obvious front runner since all the Perry-bots are going basaltic about him.

The reason why the media want Romney is to insure an Obama second term. Rest assured if Romney because the nominee, then he will run a campaign just like McCain. It’s guarantee Obama win for the next 4 years.

I love it. Herman Cain give ‘em something to talk about while you handle your bidness. The best thing he can do is be unpredictable.

“Cain is the obvious front runner since all the Perry-bots are going basaltic about him.”

If Perry just wants to fight Cain then someone else will take Cain’s place. Perry has got to build himself up, he has to have his own plan because if he thinks he can just coast his way through the primaries, we’re just going to get another McCain-like dud who will lose to Obama.

“Citizen Herman Cain HAS to go through this “fire”. I knew it was coming. He knew it was coming.”

He needs it. He will make mistakes. He will have to learn not to make the same mistakes again.
