Earlier today, The Washington Post reported on a hunting camp connected to presidential candidate Rick Perry bearing in its title a racial slur. On This Week earlier, fellow candidate Herman Cain reacted negatively to the news, criticizing Perry for going there so frequently.
Christiane Amanpour reviewed the details of the camp with Cain, and while pointing out that the word in question may have been painted out, she asked the African-American candidate his take on the story. Cain wasted no time in sharing his candid thoughts on the matter:
That is very insensitive. There are some words that do not basically inspire the kind of negativity like that particular word. And I know that youve refrained from saying that word, so Im going to say what the word was on the rock. The name of the place was called Niggerhead. That is very insensitive. And since Governor Perry has been going there for years to hunt, I think that shows a lack of sensitivity for a long time of not taking that word off of that rock and rename the place. Its just a basic case of insensitivity.

Its amazing how candidates are able to destruct themselves so easily.
Easy opportunity and he blew it.
What I am seeing here is a concerted effort by the second tier candidates to decapitate Perry to Romney’s benefit/advantange. I wonder what Romney has been promising them?
Yep, and self-destructed.
Cain did not play the race card. When the Perrybots start lying about the opposition because they cannot factually address the issues, they have lost the debate.
Or do you REALLY want to claim painting Nigg..head on a rock at the family hunting camp was NOT a rather stupid thing for the Perry family to do?
I’ve noticed all of open-borders illegals-hugging Perrybots out demanding that Herman Cain NOT be offended by the word “nigger.”
I’m sorry, but if you ask an accomplished black gentleman if the word “nigger” or “nigger-head” or a similar term is offensive, I will not begrudge him if he says yes.
When Hillary used the term “F’ing Jew Bastard” were the Perrybots out demanding that Jews not be offended?
“Or do you REALLY want to claim painting Nigg..head on a rock at the family hunting camp was NOT a rather stupid thing for the Perry family to do?”
Are you saying the Perry family actually PAINTED the word niggerhead on a rock? Seriously?
...and then blew it by throwing down the race card against a fellow Republican over a nothingburger story.
Hope you enjoyed your 15 minutes Herman Sharpton, I'm sure your blatant race baiting will not be appreciated amongst the grass roots and movement conservatives who had found you so refreshing and were beginning to give you a serious look. What a disappointment.
No, a stupid thing to do would be to make up facts like you are doing.
Perry’s family didn’t paint the words there, they painted OVER the word. The rock was then turned over...after being painted over.
The word has been gone from the rock for over a decade now....
You dolt again! Perry’s father painted over that offensive name in 1983, because he found it offensive. Cain should have know that because it was in the article upon which he choose to comment. He choose to play the race card instead. Lost my vote and anyone else I can tell about it.
The media is pulling out the race card against Cain. I’ve been racking my brain trying to think of a response that wouldn’t turn blocks of people off.
Knucklehead!
No, this helps perry. There clearly is nothing to the story so perry is the victim. This only hurts Cain.
Cain dishonestly accused perry of racism. Race card does not work here.
He was asked a question, he answered it. Sorry the Perry bots find the whole issue so embarrassing.
That’s a lie. They painted over the words so they could not be seen.
Exactly, the media threw the card down. It was an honest response from someone who grew up during the segregation era- not a politically calculated responses.
That’s a rather scurrilous accusation.
Have a source for it?...
