Many FReepers have been brainwashed about this case by the very MSM they claim to disdain.

Many Italians were brainwashed by their hysterically anti-American media -- to believe Knox was an American she-devil and "guilty guilty guilty."

Sorry, but a careful reading of the history of this case will show that this was a railroading of Knox by a corrupt prosecutor who simply made things up -- and an Italian media all too eager to publish screamingly absurd sensational headlines.

Does that sound familiar? It should!

We have prosecutors and media like that here too. Ever hear of MIKE NIFONG? And the DUKE RAPE CASE?
Oh and how about Patrick Fitzgerald, who railroaded Scooter Libby?

People want her to be guilty

she 's from a liberal part of the USA, she' alleged to be a skank ect

people cant give their preconceived notions that she's guilty because the British press and skinny Minny Ann said so

this is like the dingo case in Australia,or that duke lacrosse case here in NC

Trial by self serving and hysterical media ,an incompetent and corrupt prosecutor, and mob think

not a recipe for a fair trial

I do find it disturbing that people like Knox are accused of murder or other heinous crimes and people seem to eventually feel sorry for them and cheer their acquittal. It’s like people forget about the underlying crime and root for the new celebrity on the block. If it’s a hot chick, well then all the more reason to find excuses to believe her story no matter how absurd it is.

It behooves us to keep in mine that our system of jurisprudence is based on English Common Law and the presumption on innocence. Most European countries base their systems on the Napoleonic code under which the accused is presumed guilty and the burden of proof of innocence falls on the defendant. That is a significant difference and really put the defense at a disadvantage. If she and her lawyer(s) managed to prevail under those conditions I'd have to say she deserves to walk away.

As far as "forget about the underlying crime and root for the new celebrity on the block" there would be no celebrity without the sensationalism of the media. The rooting of the great unwashed public has no effect on the trial, the case as presented to the court does. If you find that not to your liking you should ignore the media hype.

I much prefer to let the guilty go free then punish an innocent. Your thoughts on that?

Regards,
GtG

Then why all the lies? Huh?

Scared, stupid people being interrogated without an attorney present and in a country with no Miranda rights have been known to do that.

Take my word for this. Investigation of violent crimes is my life; not a hobby. The case the Italian prosecutors are trying to sell you is not the beautiful thing it appears to some to be. It’s a junker all cleaned-up and waiting to be purchased by naïve people.

And Ann bought it!

Just proof that money talks. Her family is loaded...

Well, no. Funding the appeal will break her family financially.

When I read of their treatment of the crime scene, I thought it was but the tip of the malfeasance iceberg. I hope Amanda will do some spots for the “Think twice before you go to Italy” board.

“the “let’s acquit all the hot girls” crowd”

The ‘hot girl is innnocent’ is a running joke on Free Republic making fun of what seems to be current conventional wisdom in America these days that if the girl is is hot she MUST be innocent.

Do you really believe we all think that hot teacher that was doing the 14 yr old boy for the past two years should be let go?
We DON”T but a lot in society does.
That’s the joke.

Maybe she and the boyfriend were so high on drugs they thought they might have done it. That would explain their odd behavior (bleach, cartwheels, false statements).

Bill O’reilly and Judge Napolitano have no idea what they are talking about! There is no evidence that Knox and Sollecito were in the room where the murder took place. Knox was not there and does not know what happened! They should both STFU until they are familiar with the facts of the case!

The facts in the case are absolutely devastating for Amanda Knox and Raffaele Sollecito.

Hilarious. You stick with that spin from the Italian Prosecutor who has a history of making up evidence to make cases. Not even a motive was argued by him. I will take the word of our own people in the US who investigated this, retired PBI agents and the like, who said she was innocent.

I much prefer to let the guilty go free then punish an innocent. Your thoughts on that?

My thoughts are, first and foremost, that I could be wrong about this. I am not the most knowledgeable person about this case and perhaps should have just refrained from comment.

Saying that, I am just trying to convey my general feeling that society tends to very quickly forget the underlying crime and victim, and begin finding sympathy with the accused. The prettier the accused, the more sympathy they will likely garner. I detest the celebrity worship we see in society. I hate that court cases are increasingly becoming reality TV - focusing on everything from what the defense attorney is wearing to what who the prosecutor is dating. These crimes leave murder victims in their wake, and I fear society is all too often more interested in creating the next American Idol.

You can only go so far with the "let the guilty go free than punish the innocent". Where is the cutoff? 10-1? 100-1? 1000-1? No judiciary is perfect. At least in our legal system, the bar is reasonable doubt, not 100% certainty. I have the feeling in cases like Casey Anthony, juries are beginning to believe it is the latter.

Perhaps there was truly not enough evidence to convict Knox, but from what I know about this case it seems pretty obvious she was there, she knows what happened, and my guess is she took part in this murder. It bothers my that she is going to make millions of dollars now and a murder victim will be forgotten.
