The Washington Post story revealing that Texas Governor Rick Perry hunted and hosted lawmakers at a hunting camp called Niggerhead is alarming and displays a new height in racial insensitivity in national politics. Mr. Perry should immediately fully explain how he could have gone to a ranch and hunted that is named after such an obvious racist term or he should withdrawl from the race. He is either blindly insensitive or hopelessly unaware of where he spends his time. Either way it makes one wonder if he is ready for prime time and certainly whether he is ready for the White House. Reverend Al Sharpton, President National Action Network

I have real issues with Perry that cause me concern not this pettifogging class warfare crapola.
Yes, I'm well aware of that double standard.
There is a type of prolific daisy wildflower native to that part of Texas. It has had several colloquial names over the years, including Balck-Eyed Susan, Yellow or Ox-Eye Daisy, Nigger-Head, Golden Jerusalem, and Purple Cone-flower. See the following link: http://www.nature-and-flower-pictures.com/black-eyed-susan.html
From my experience as a native Texan, the name Nigger-Head was the most common.
You do know how that flower (and others also tagged with that name) got that name don’t you?
As much as I’d love to see Perry and his RINO brothers leave the race sooner rather than later, getting rid of them is the business of conservatives and not a racist propagandist/overseer of the traditional democrat slave plantation. Never, ever, again should any conservative back down and do the bidding of any democrat. They don’t play this way and neither should we. Tell POS Al to pound sand and wander off into traffic. There’s a reason why the reverend in the Bonfire of the Vanities movie looked and sounded a lot like Al.
FUBO & FAD
Cain can forget the 1/3 black vote. He won’t get it. Conservatives don’t get the black vote.
Now, he’s messin’ with the white vote. he may not get it either.
For the sake of the reputation of FreeRepublic, can we please stop using this word on here?
You must have been a brilliant debator in high school. When the other teams made fact based picture, you handed them a photo shopped picture.
The mods have found no problem with this thread so far and they are scrupulous about out of bounds racial remarks.
Talked to hubby and he agreed... plus he lived in West Texas in his youth.
A long time ago things were very different. When I was a little girl the N word was in common use, but we didn’t use it in my family. Well, I had an aunt who did.
I have honestly not heard it used by a white person in over 50 years.
This whole thing is making a mountain out of a molehill... or a medium sized rock, long painted over and having nothing whatever to do with Perry. Sheesh.
Yes, Cain was not cowed by the question, which is admirable, but he stepped into a trap, nonetheless.
In my opinion, he fell for the 'gotcha' of the media pitting one Republican against another. Better to have looked the media critter in the eye and said that he'd wait for all the data to emerge before commenting.
Now he's embroiled himself in Perry's mess. I'm sure the Perry campaign is thrilled that Cain took so much of the focus off their candidate.
I don't think it's appropriate to have it repeated a million times with all the different meanings of it. It all returns back to it referring to blacks. Jim Robinson may be fine with people saying it on here, and how the terms came to be. That's his call.
Now, since you want to discuss things like adults, I'd like you to back up your accusation that I'm a communist. I've given you plenty of opportunities to back up your claim, and you've yet to do so.
I meant a fact based argument, not picture.
The more I hear about Cain the more I like him.
I’ve been thinking the exact opposite. The more I hear, the more I don’t like.
How classy to know that out of all the pretty names Texans could use (we use Black-Eyed Susans up here), they prefer “Niggerhead.” Just makes ya think...
Commies like to break the rules don't they? And can't stick to their word either! lol
I’m a 6th generation Texas, have lived here my entire life, and never heard those flowers called that. We called them Black eyed Susans.
I like the way cain is tough on terrorist and CAIR
