In a column for the Daily Caller, Tancredo, who ran twice for his party's presidential nomination in an effort to inject the illegal immigration issue into the larger debate, is slamming Perry for his soft policies on illegal immigration in Texas -- and what Tancredo calls his "Muslim blind spot."
"What is not yet as widely known about Perry is that he extends his taxpayer-funded compassion not only to illegal aliens but also to Muslim groups seeking to whitewash the violent history of that religion," Tancredo writes.
"Perry endorsed and facilitated the adoption in Texas public schools of a pro-Muslim curriculum unit developed by Muslim clerics in Pakistan."
Tancredo cites a study by The Center for Immigration Studies, which shows that 81% of the 279,000 jobs created in Texas in the past four years went to non-citizens, a high number of them illegal aliens, to discredit Perry's central presidential argument -- that he's overseen a 'Texas miracle' of job growth while the national economy continues to decline.
And in 2008, as Tancredo points out, Perry helped expand the Muslim Histories and Culture Project, a teacher-training program spearheaded by Texas Ismailis that introduces Islamic history and culture curricula into Texas schools.

As a westerner all my life, living in a state that depends on water for it's very life, I understand that you can't put a fence us along the Texas border. If you put it up on the US side, you cede water rights, and US land, to Mexico. You can't put it up on the Mexican side for the same reason. If you put it up too far inland you are seizing land that people have lived on for generations, cutting off grazing patterns that have existed for a hundred years before Texas even became a state. You can't build a fence down the middle of a river. So, you put boots on the ground, you put planes in the air and you secure the border that way. That is Perry's stand on border control, that is what we wanted here in Arizona too. It's easier to do in Texas because they have so many military bases there and if the feds wanted to do it they could at very little cost to taxpayers.
Yeah, the in-state tuition sounds like a compassionate conservative leftover from the Bush era. I don't support it. But I understand that states do make laws based on the 10th amendment and federalism that some folks don't like. I didn't find the heartless remark insulting either. Politicians say things all the time. Folks should watch more what politicians do, then what they say they might do. I know that could be seen as a opening to start throwing out all manner of rhetorical red herrings. So be it. Also, I don't know of any politician who is the ideal candidate. Not even Reagan. Although he was the best.
Quite calm. I never pass up an opportunity to slam Willard, or Ronpaul either.
Did you know? Herman Cain gave a huge endorsement of Romney for potus in 2008. Hmmm.
That is a flat out lie!
As Governor, Perry could have done a helluva lot more about the border than he has.
What...specifically! What would you have him do?
Texas has spent $400 million on illegal immigration in the past few years and it is a Fed responsibility.
Says most everything we need to know about Tancredo's motivation.
Boston Globe reported about MA in-state tuition, In announcing his veto last June, Romney said, "I hate the idea of in any way making it more difficult for kids, even those who are illegal aliens, to afford college in our state."
HOWEVER... "A separate proposal, proposed by Romney last January, would have waived tuition at state colleges and universities for the top 25 percent of MCAS scorers statewide." Legislators rejected it, claiming that would disproportionately benefit the wealthy.
So Romney wasn't hardline against it. His proposal may have let illegals pay no tuition at all. He may have just been against making it so obvious a policy.
Add in Romney's support for Comprehensive Immigration Reform while governor and there's no question he move right just for his presidential runs. And yet, Tancredo found him believable enough to endorse and work for.
Tancredo has also claimed Perry once called him a racist but no media has ever been able to confirm his assertion. Not Slate, not CNN, not Politico.
Tancredo is for flip-flopping Romney and clearly detests Perry.
Would you have preferred he had endorsed Juan McShame ?
Thank you for defending Tancredo. I became a fan of his when he responded to a question about threats from the Jihadists with his statement that he would bomb Mecca.
How sacred could their “religion” be if it allowed Mecca to be vaporized??
Perry lost many of the Texas conservatives over the TransTexasCorridor and his dancing around the illegal immigration issues. He let Lt.Gov.Dewhurst and others derail the anti-sanctuary-cities bill without trying to save it.
If he’s not true RINO,he’s RINO-lite.
I have come to the conclusion just based on what I have seen since Perry entered the race, that the so-called people in the know, beltway types etc., really are terrified of Perry.
He stands toe to toe with the EPA and tells them not in my state you don’t.
He tells Obama to take his supposed EDU Stimulus funds and shove them where the sun don’t shine.
Perry goes to meet Obama and walks up to him and tries to hand him a letter as GOVERNOR to provide the REQUIRED Federal support in defending the Border. Obama the chicken chit REFUSES to accept the letter.
Yes they are terrified of Perry because they KNOW he will FORCE those lazy Reps and senators to DO THEIR JOB.
The 1st action Perry is going to take is to REPEAL OBAMACARE.
THAT alone wil turn the key of our engine of growth.
That alone is worth my vote.
That information should have killed this thread. Instead, your post gets ignored until post 85.
The funny thing about BarnacleCenturion is that he was a Romney poster back in 2007-08, and now the only information available about him is a photo of Palin. Yet all he posts are negative articles about Rick Perry.
Hmm...connecting the dots here...
Hmm.
I'm curious. Did you mean to say "Sarah Palin's show's up?"
Yes the Perry haters are:
1) DUMORATs
2) Romnuts ( due to their ability to lie just like their dear leader)
3) woefully uninformed.
There are some claiming to be Cain supporters that frankly I find interesting. They rale about Obama inexperience yet support a man that if running against Obama...Obama would be claiming Cain has no experience.
the threads here for the last week or so have been interesting in that it was clearly a campaign to divide and conquer the Conservs and Tea Party People.
Romney hates both. All us “little” people ya know.
When facts are ignored and lies continue to be repeated, it can be nothing else.
I mean Romnuts actually actually edited his OWN book to take out quotes, Talk about a dirty lying pol. He is the poster child.
Hey, I’m wondering why you didn’t post on FR for almost a year, and then in your first post back you started a negative thread about Rick Perry just a few weeks after he announced, and right after he went ahead of Romney, your guy in 2007-08, in the polls?
Is it a freakish coincidence?

JM is at least pro-military, pro-life, pro-gun. In the old days McCain was a foot soldier in the Reagan Revolution. At the same time Romney was rejecting Reagan's agenda and later would reject the GOP and the Contract With America.
During Vietnam McCain was shot down, captured and tortured. At the same time McCain was defending his country and being a POW, Myth Romney was handed a deferment through the influence of the Mormon Church. Willard ran from military service --- as his entire family has done --- moved to France and chose to eat snails and foie gras.
McCain over Romney, you betcha!
Pure IGNORANCE!
See my post #92. I did a bit of research on BarnacleCenturion. He was a Romney supporter in 2007-08, and went almost a year without posting on FR until reappearing by posting a thread that is a Perry hit piece. Coincidently, this was right after Perry went ahead in the polls over guess who ... yep, Mittens Romney.
We have a Romney supporter pretending to be a Palin supporter, but clearly his target has been Rick Perry. It’s funny, yet sad, to watch more regular FReepers fall for this act.
I guess that first amendment thingy doesn’t mean anything to you then right?
“I support Tancredos views on immigration, but Tancredo has no idea what he is talking about when it comes to curriculum adoption in the State of Texas”
I also agree with Tancredo’s views on immigration. I supported him intellectually and financially during his campaign for President in 2008. Too bad he didn’t get elected we would have a fence by now.
What a lot of folks don’t know is that Tancredo is a former Jr High school teacher and served in the US Dept of Education under both Reagan and Bush 41 so I think he does
have an understanding of educational curriculum and is certainly qualified to make an opinion statement about it.
, March 04, 2010 4:04:37 PM · 124 of 137 BarnacleCenturion to ansel12 Come back to earth. You honestly think theres an army of Mormon volunteers keeping candidates out of the race? If Romney is so ruthless as you think he is, he might be the best weapon against Obambi. Think about that.

Another example of him defending Mittens in 2009
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2400325/posts?page=66#66
He dropped out of the race in 12/07 to work as an adviser for Mittens Romney. Do you consider your money well-spent?
The ISSUE may have occured 10 years ago, but it is still relevant.
