Obama Administration to Ban Asthma Inhalers Over Environmental Concerns 3:00 PM, Sep 23, 2011 By MARK HEMINGWAY Single Page Print Larger Text Smaller Text Alerts
Remember how Obama recently waived new ozone regulations at the EPA because they were too costly? Well, it seems that the Obama administration is would rather make people with Asthma cough up money than let them make a surely inconsequential contribution to depleting the ozone layer:
Asthma patients who rely on over-the-counter inhalers will need to switch to prescription-only alternatives as part of the federal government's latest attempt to protect the Earth's atmosphere.
The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday patients who use the epinephrine inhalers to treat mild asthma will need to switch by Dec. 31 to other types that do not contain chlorofluorocarbons, an aerosol substance once found in a variety of spray products.
The action is part of an agreement signed by the U.S. and other nations to stop using substances that deplete the ozone layer, a region in the atmosphere that helps block harmful ultraviolet rays from the Sun.
But the switch to a greener inhaler will cost consumers more. Epinephrine inhalers are available via online retailers for around $20, whereas the alternatives, which contain the drug albuterol, range from $30 to $60.
The Atlantic's Megan McArdle, an asthma sufferer, noted a while back that when consumers are forced to deal with environmentally friendly products they're are almost always worse:
Next Republican president must give an order to vacate all EPA buildings then bulldoze them. Fire every last employee. Put them on the soup lines not you and me.
Nuke the EPA!
I should be horrified, but the environazis have never tried to hide their contempt for human life, so it’s no surprise.
They got rid of another type of inhaler about a year or two ago, and from what I have heard, the new kind is worse. Now they want an even worse kind?
They’re banning “inhalers”, too, with their attempts to have federally-subsidized abortion eliminate black people.
Oh my, LOL, you get the “post that caught me by surprise so much that I barked laughter” award for today. Perfect! I’d forgotten about that too.
Obama is literally trying to penalize people for wanting to breathe.
sounds great , but the republicans are only slightly less statist/socialist/fascist than the democrats
at this point the only thing that will turn the ship around is overwhelming violence and lets hope it doesnt come to that . Poor kids, they will think this is just the way the USA is supposed to be
Didn’t I read Christie was thinking about running? Christie has Asthma.... It’s all part of the plan...
I have posted much the same about the EPA on many occasions. I also would add revoking their pensions, seizing their houses and ALL assets.
We need to remind people that these are fellow citizens that work at the EPA. They are purposely creating these regulations to cause death and misery.
The humans at the EPA that propose these regulations are evil sadistic scum.
Population control.
Watch the Pulmicort. It finally got mine under control, but one of the side effects is a change in behavior. Boy did it! I turned downright mean. Had horrible nightmares and violent urges. As soon as I went off it, those went away. Now I’m on Symbicort and until this horrible allergy season was pretty much symptom free.
FYI to anyone who needs it, albuterol for the nebulizer is on the $4 list at WalMart.
It took effect during President Bush’s term though the ban was signed onto by Clinton. I previously used Serevent and was controlled, the replacement inhalers don’t work for me. I now have to use a nebulizer , not exactly something easily carried in a purse.
The new “non-propellant” carrier is ethanol, God help those with corn allergies. Wasn’t that one of the drawbacks of ethanol in vehicle exhaust, more asthma?
Part of the problem is the new albuterol inhalers have to be inhaled deeply to work (no propellant, just a carrier) to be used by someone who can’t breathe! They clog easily, almost each use need washing and then must be thoroughly dry. I have never gotten the stated number of doses from one either.
Lets say that only 33% of EPA workers are eco-fanatics who believe in the present day draconian EPA regulations. The other 66% are just Federale drones. The same incompetents and affirmative action hires collecting bloated Federale salaries. You can find them in any other Federale agency. All they care about is the paycheck and if their EPA job creates misery for their fellow citizens...they could care less. You know that the most wealthy US suburbs surround Washington DC
I got a report from DC last weekend. The restaurants are humming at night and so is the nightlife. No recession there
0bamacare is Mengelecare! Todays guttersnipe just has a melanometric and muslim mania..
They are implacably evil and must be defeated!
The most common cause of asthma deathsis often underdosing on meds. if some 0bamanite loser wants to get high and achieve room temperature, why should others suffer?
does this new company on the inhalers give the left money and the old company which made the old inhalers give republican?
Just seems weird that they would ban something which hardly hurts the air when zero drives around in a massive newly made motor home
A trend that I think is going to continue for an ever expanding list of medicines, many that are comparitively inexpensive, and we're used to getting easily. They will be banned or become scarce here (no longer manufactured here either), while they are increasingly marketed in Africa, Asia, etc. I don't really understand the logic. It sounds stupid and dangerous to America, so the gov't is probably behind it somehow.
How can these inhalers contents damage the environment yet not kill the person inhaling it directly into their lungs?
