Full title: Perry: "I Don't Think You Have a Heart" If You Oppose In-State Tuition for Children of Illegal Immigrants
Perry's response was forceful and personal. "I don't think you have a heart," Perry told his critics.
"If you say that we should not educate children who come into our state for no other reason than that they've been brought their through no fault of their own, I don't think you have a heart," Perry said. "We need to be educating these children because they will become a drag on our society. I think that's what Texans wanted to do. Out of 181 members of the Texas legislature when this issue came up [there were] only four dissenting votes. This was a state issue. Texas voted on it. And I still support it today."

PING
Care to weigh in and defend Perry on this one?
FR is a lost cause remember? Why are you still here?
What’s wrong with you? You don’t want another “decider”? /s/on
“Upon going to that link (above) you see Rush advising his listeners that we will need to get the Texas electoral vote to win this election, and we will need to get the Hispanic vote from Obama to win this election against Obama.”
For ten years Rush wouldn’t lift a finger to help those of us who were battling illegal immigration. During the fight to pass Prop 187 in California he wouldn’t take calls on illegal immigration. He wouldn’t take calls on it for years afterward either.
It was only when the grassroots firestorm stopped Dubya’s amnesty dead in its tracks that Rush got around to yelling “Wait! Wait! I’m your leader!” as he ran after the bandwagon and tried to clamber aboard.
So pardon me if I find Rush’s suggestions about the necessity of sucking up to the latino vote to be a pile of dog crap. He’s just going back to what he does best, playing waterboy for the no borders wing of the GOP.
We keep agreeing and one of us will have to buy the beer ;)

Wine for me tonight, but I’ll take you up on beer. Running joke is I’m making up for all the years I spent as a Mormon. ;)
And I agree with your post. Our last neighborhood was where my husband’s grandmother lived (we were living there to keep it from being burned down by the gangs or used as a drug house). He was shot at by the ‘innocent’ little kids for being white. The cops wouldn’t answer calls of shots fired unless we saw a body, the cops defended the gang members across the street when they broke in and robbed us, and we had to wear bullet proof vest (not kidding) to work in our garden.
Innocent my ***.
“A kid going to public school typically costs more than $5,000 per year. Illegals dont even begin to pay enough taxes to cover their children going to public school”
Unless you pay 3 times the property tax as we do in Texas, even you never completely cover the cost to educate your own kid. A lot of shool taxes comes form homeowners who have no children or whose children have grown up, making them pay shool tax with no kid in the school system.
Perry has a self inflicted wound. It takes very little to parse what he said before with what would be deemed reasonably fair in another world on another day. But I sense we have only seen the tip of an enormous iceberg when it comes to Perry’s enthusiasm for the goals of La Raza. I sense that if he was not already parsing the heck out of his true beliefs we would have another Gov Richardson on our hands.
No he won’t ever build a fence.
No he won’t punish employers,
No he won’t deport those convicted of a non fence jumping crime.
Yes he will give licenses, instate tuition and benefits.
When he comes to Ohio, he will see the effect of that.
Pray for an alternative to Romney!
And perhaps the lone star state wouldn’t be the illegal gateway/superhighway of choice that Perry’s policies made it. But we will never know that either.
Again. A path to legal citizenship or a path to citizenship are one in the same thing. When applied to illegals it means, amnesty.
Funny that.
“...Palin supporters being cultists <<
There is a difference between being a Plain supporter and a Palin cultist.
I am the former, I despise the latter.
If no one can say one negative thing about Palin without you flipping your wig, you are a cultist.
Thanks! we can’t afford to move since the housing market has crashed.
That looks like something I need to read. I'm working on Mark Steyn's "After America" right now, but it is slow going because it is absolutely infuriating. Steyn is the greatest writer alive today in my opinion.
Actually, I have two teenage kids and I pay about double in property taxes the costs of my two kids going to school each year.
We should probably take this up in Mail if you want to continue it.
Well thanks Carling, but I know what a time my husband has trying to put up with me. I don’t think Rick Perry needs that right now too! LOL
So I’ve decided that Rick Perry doesn’t appear to have debate skills as his top talent, but I still know who he is, and he’s still my candidate of choice. Let’s hope he gets a few good speeches in where people can see him in that venue before he does another debate or so! LOL
Thanks for the nice note!
You don’t need wine, you need Yukon Jack!! and a Ma Duce... Good lord. That’s one hell of a testimony to the true face of illegal immigration.
But I’m sure you just made that up because you are a Perry hater like me that just wants Romney elected...Or I’m sure one of his (diminishing number of) supporters will be here shortly to tell you how you imagined the whole thing. Either way as long as they can excuse the actual result of policies he supports.
So you are saying the path to legal citizenship that has been in place since before Ellis Island is Amnesty...got it.
Same here. We get a lot of that, along with stickers and flag license plates. Its all Reconquista/LaRaza crap. If I emigrated to Iceland, why would I keep flying an American flag? Only if I really didnt consider myself an Icelander...

Yep. My mother’s neighbor’s are “La Raza” local leaders. My husband couldn’t understand in HS why if they had La Raza groups and a ‘black student union’ why he couldn’t start a ‘white student union’. He didn’t see it as racist, just equality.
My mother nearly got arrested in Serbia (then Yugoslavia) for working on a cross-stitch publicly of the American pledge of Allegiance (this was under Tito).
I appreciate both Perry's and Palin’s nuanced positions when it comes to immigration.
Your “illegal gateway/superhighway” remark is fallacious.
