CBS ^

Posted on 09/21/2011 9:10:07 PM PDT by Borough Park

(CBS/AP)  JACKSON, Ga. - Georgia executed Troy Davis on Wednesday night for the murder of an off-duty police officer, a crime he denied committing right to the end as supporters around the world mourned and declared that an innocent man was put to death.

Defiant to the end, he told relatives of Mark MacPhail that his 1989 slaying was not his fault. "I did not have a gun," he insisted.

Why not call out Souter or Ginsburg?

Well Souter's been retired for two years now, so it wouldn't make a lot of sense to call him out.

Disgusting. I see the black loving Kardashian sisters are siding with Davis.

A lot of these idiots are talking about Casey Anthony... should have been black etc. Funny how they forget OJ Simpson getting off for murdering his white wife. Pathetic.

>Who even cares what he thinks, about anything?<

Baldwin encouraged his supporters to go after Michelle Malkin, who has been getting death threats. He has now turned his attention toward the family of the slain policeman. Will the mob now turn on them?

Of course, Saint Alec is conveniently ignoring the other execution that took place last night. There’s a shock.

I've read all the history. The many, many appeals over the years.

In 2010 the defense was granted a hearing to prove all of the recants, etc. The basic was that a few of the many witnesses had recanted, but almost all of them were shown to be untrustworty and uncredible in the recants.

The defense had ample opportunity to call certain witnesses, particularly the man that two of the recants now claimed was the killer...so he could be examined. but the defense did not do it. They said they had tried to serve papers on him the day before, but they had known about the hearing and this individual for months.

The judge ruled against the defense because the recants were not crdible and because the defense failed to call the principle witness they were trying to implicate.

That Judge's decision was upheld on several appeals.

It is clear that there has been a rigorous emotional campaign launched regarding this man. Many liberal groups and quite a few noted individuals have read the material produced by those who wanted to see Davis get a new trial. But the prosecuting attorney nailed it when he indicated that none of those "well known people," had come to him and asked to review the actual evidence and full trial transcripts.

Emotions cannot be the foundation for justice. none of that emotional content changed the evidence in the case. Particulalry the fact that casings from the shooting scene where the officer was killed, matched the casings where Davis was accused of shooting another man earlier in the evening. Davis was at both places.

That evidence...and a lot more...was compelling to a jury of seven blacks and five whites, who found him guilty of the murder. it has remained compelling over they years to the appealte courts, despite the recants of a few. Even though they never found the murder weapon, they did find those casings and they were judged and rule to have been fired from the same gun. Davis was at both scenes that night. This man received absolutely every benefit of our system...every appeal and actipon and procedure imaginable. The fact that in all of that...including a rehearing on the evidence...he was unable to prevail indicates that the state had it right from the beginning.

So I assume Laura supported cutting off government funding of Planned Parenthood after it was proven they helped underage girls get abortions?

I just read about the crime. Davis was present at this crime as well as another one where the same gun was present. It doesn’t matter whether he pulled the trigger much less “had” the gun. Davis was a participant in a crime that resulted in an innocent death. Therefore, he is guilty of cold blooded murder in the first degree.

That is the case against Davis not that he may have done the actual killing. Even if the court and jury accepted as fact he did not shoot the victim, a new trial would have resulted in his being found guilty of murder anyway as an aider an abettor to the murder.

Notice that the anti-death penalty crowd conveniently pretend he was not a party to the crime for purposes of their political agenda.

Evidence that Davis tried to prevent the killing is the only thing that could potentially mitigate his guilt. There is none.

Georgia has removed a murderer from our midst. The State deserves the thanks of all law abiding citizens.

Stop the presses! Jimmuh has opined that Davis’ execution was done “with so much doubt surrounding his guilt”!!!

Jimmy Carter issued a statement partly reading, “If one of our fellow citizens can be executed with so much doubt surrounding his guilt, then the death penalty system in our country is unjust and outdated. We hope this tragedy will spur us as a nation toward the total rejection of capital punishment.”

Obviously, all those judges and Supreme Court types screwed the pooch on this case < /sarcasm>.

Of the 33(THIRTY THREE)33 eyewitnesses, how many are the several that recanted? What are we talking 5,6,7,10? That means the vast majority of EYEWITNESSES HAVE NOT RECANTED!

A jury of 7 BLACKS and 5 Whites found him GUILTY.

What next? You think Mumia is innocent to?

What if 27 people insisted YOU did?

I really haven't read anything about this story, so I won't comment on this particular case. In general though, I don't think anyone should be executed based on witness account alone. If there is other evidence fine, but not just because other people say they saw it.

Lots of people swore they had seen women perform evil witchery too.

**p.s. It is my belief that any violent career criminal should be shot where they stand...if this guy fits that bill, so be it.

Alec Baldwin, what a dipsh-t! I don't have Twitter but I wish that someone would respond to this statement or his support for cop-killer Troy Davis, and ask him where is the outpouring of grief for 55 million dead babies because of abortion, 40% of those taking place in black neighborhoods because 40% of Planned Parenthood abortion clinics are located in the black neighborhoods & ghettos.
