A Republican win in an historic Democratic congressional district in New York and an art exhibit canceled, after public outrage, at a childrens museum in Oakland, California, seem to be unrelated events.
But the relationship between these events would be apparent to anyone who took note of the claim of Svein Sevje, Norwegian ambassador to Israel, that the lives of Norwegian children slaughtered by a crazed fanatic were worth more than the lives of Jewish children slaughtered by Palestinians. Or anyone who observed that, this month, the government of Turkey conspicuously separated Israeli passengers arriving at the Istanbul airport, had them strip searched, held them incommunicado for ninety-minutes, and then released them without explanation.
For Jews, it is the 1930s all over again. We are living in the early days of the garden of beasts, although this time the appellation is not about one country, but about much of the world.

NO! It can’t happen again.
Amazing how long it took them to see it. I’ve been hearing anti-Isreali speech for years from liberals.
there’s only one group that embraces american jewry and israel,
and that’s conservatives.
The Jews in Germany did not side with Hitler’s National Socialist party because they sided with the Communist party candidate. The Jews in the Soviet Union were a big percentage of the politburo until Stalin purged them. Why the Jews tend to vote for evil always amazes me. I don’t expect the next election to be any different.
They don't think they are voting for evil; they think they are voting for utopia on earth.
That Norwegian amb. should have his a** kicked.
“theres only one group that embraces american jewry and israel, and thats conservatives.”
that’s why Jews in NY 9 finally realized it is better to support a Catholic Republican than a Jewish Democrat
That is just so foolish. Evangelican Christians are among the strongest supporters of Israel and the Jewish people.
They have been rather slow about the whole thing haven’t they?
I don’t know why, and I’m not forgetting the many Jews who actually can see evil in the world, but for so many their liberal world-view outweighs even their own survival.
But recent events have, indeed, been encouraging
“That is just so foolish. Evangelican Christians are among the strongest supporters of Israel and the Jewish people.”
HW Bush and Pat Buchanan in the 90’s really hurt that perception. Then in 2000, the GOP picked HW Bush’s son. So you can understand why many Jews wouldn’t see the GOP as so pro-Israel that they’d just ‘have’ to vote for them.
No, I think its that many Jews are weaned on Liberalism. Its so ingrained that they really come to believe that Liberalism IS Judiasm. BTW—I am Jewish and have NEVER been a liberal nor had any empathy for Liberal causes. My family basically thinks I’m a genetic mutation of sorts and...that’s probably not too far off.
Was one choice better than the other? I think not.
I’m reading David Mamet’s Confession, “The Secret Knowledge,” which is filled with observations on this general theme.
It’s well worth the read. Fascinating stuff. Very interesting observations on culture, politics, governance and being Jewish.
“My family basically thinks Im a genetic mutation of sorts”
I.e. you are next step in evolution... ;-)

Thanks. I retired from the AF as a Lt Col and am now a college professor (computer science). In their eyes, I’m a failure because I’m not an MD, Lawyer or a Liberal.
There was no good choice there. But the Jewish voters here vote for the communist belivers en mass and hate the candidates that believe in individual libert and freedom. The Republicans often do not put up very good candidates, but they are always better than the socialisd democrats.
And we have not forgotten the Anti-Semitism of folks like
“James-F*ck -the-Jews-Baker”. That one is a standing classic. And, it made us very, very leery of the GOP.
For many years, the Jews have seen and experienced the GOP as extremely Anti-Semitic, that is why so many of us went Democratic.
