Look at the date
This was a scandal that came out a couple of months back and the meth-head who got caught doing it (trading his purchases for drugs I believe) is being prosecuted.
Of course the real scandal is that this is going on ALL THE TIME and probably a good percentage of overall food stamps are being abused this way.

Why even work today, right? Here in NYC, not only will they house you in a motel, but they will also buy all the booze you want ala food stamps, give you free medical and clothe you. AND if the motel gets a little wet from a hurricane, you can call News 1 and they will send out reporters who will do a story on how cruel you are treated. That actually happened at a motel near me. THAT was what was important to News 1 during a hurricane.

When I was in college we would buy food stamps from the bums for 20 cents on the dollar. We had some great BBQs but got some nasty looks when we were buying huge steaks with food stamps.
We were qualified for food stamps ourselves but found a better way to get them until they began asking for ID.
