I thought bikers like the ones who meet in D.C. were patriotic guys sporting American flags on their bikes.

Some even meet to protect the heroes' funerals from those imbecile church radicals.

Must be a new and different breed doing nasty things on the highways.

Got THAT right

Even if you're driving a semi. The long legs puts the heavy body mass above the hood - it can take the whole top of a car off - along with heads in the way - or roll right up and through the windshield of a semi -

That isn’t a state licensing issue unless the state chooses to make it one. I’ve yet to see Federal Marshalls stopping dirt bikes for EPA compliance on any road around here (although federal employees could enforce similar regulations, such as for spark arresters, on federal land).

>>>I’d think trail bikes because they’re easier to do stunts on than racing bikes. My first ride on a Bultaco Alpina 350 started with a wheelie and I didn’t even know it till the guy who was helping me out told me what had happened once I came back down the street.<<<

My bet is they are sportbikes - and they are very easy to do tricks on. The epitomy of “fast” is the modern day 1000cc sportbike (hence the term “Literbike”). They will do 186 mph (300kph) stock off the show room floor - and that’s only because of manufacture’s agreements with european version of AMA. They can go faster. They put out about 180 bhp (weigh about 450lbs wet), redline around 13,750rpm, 0-60mph in about 3 seconds, and easily pass 100mph in first gear (six speed trany). They make all high-end stock sport cars (Corvettes, Mustangs, etc.) look silly off the starting line and there after - and for a fraction of the cost. But they’re not for eveyone.

There is an old saying: “The motorcycle is God’s way of weeding out the Gene Pool. The Literbike is God’s way of determining whether the weeding worked.” I love mine!

“Things legal and otherwise can be and are done to Harleys to considerably increase their pep.”

We wouldn’t know anything about that.

Thinking the same thing. I say hold in your lane, go the speed limit, and let the idiots do what they do. Slow if necessary to keep a safe distance with the biker in front of you. Do not swerve to avoid a crash - hold your line.

Interesting, I never though of Maine as having a large moose population....years back they tried to introduce moose into Michigan. The only small herd was up north close to my family's cottage on Mullet Lake...about 40 miles south of the Straits.(lower peninsula) As kids, we would go out at night looking for the moose, but never saw one..That was back in the late 50’s....

The day a motorcycle “forces” me off the road is the day I turn in my physics-knowledge card.

Here's an example of a motorcycle that forced a car off the road...

Remember F=mv^2.

The bike was estimated to be moving at 155mph. Needless to say, it was not a good day for rider, driver, or passenger

That would be impressive in a completely different way. But again, they didn’t say slow bikes... :P

There’s some program on cable that’s nothing but guys doing ‘stunts’ on bikes.

It’s the new fad.

Well yeah, socking into a car with a goodly speed advantage over the car would likely knock it far off course. Even if you were a fairly light motorcycle.

>>>Note to bikers: My car will ALWAYS win. Always. Act appropriately.<<<

If you get hit by a sportbike pulling triple digits it will saw your car in half and it will take forensic techniques to determine whose body parts are which. It happens all the time. Not a trick that I would like to try, but those 20-something “star boys” as we like to call them keep trying to test this one. So stay alert - you're not invincible in your car. That's what this group of cyclists was - a bunch of star boys.

Good advice.

That’s what we’ve had to do several times even though *we* were on bikes, too.

Just let ‘em go and watch out for possible flying debris.

We often have groups of bikers on our street, particularly before and after motorcycle week, which is a yearly New Hampshire summer event. Fortunately, we are far from the street with heavy woods between us. Still, we have found that the groups that pass us by are generally very respectful of this quiet area, with never a problem that I have observed.
