“”There was a good half mile stretch where it was _20 bikes wide the whole highway_,”

Wow.

I-70 sure must be a LOT wider there than it is here.

Let’s see..2 lanes here might take 5 bikes so it’s an 8 lane highway?

At least not the common fresh from the factory Harley.

Things legal and otherwise can be and are done to Harleys to considerably increase their pep.

IIRC, the top speed of a KX125 with stock gearing is about 50. So, no.

People change gearing all the time including me, today. Whether I'm riding tight trails or wide-open desert makes a huge difference to final drive ratio. On the KTM 125, the top speed would range between roughly 50 and 70 with the sprockets I have. I am not suggesting that these people today were on dirtbikes; I said nothing about that.

Yes, but then when you start adding on all of the ubiquitous chrome that every Harley rider seems to adore, they slow back down... :P

Federal law regulates new production and epa compliance, etc. It doesn’t govern what states can do with existing vehicles.

I think someone doesn’t know how to count. 1000 motorcycles on an interstate would be a pack 3-5 miles long.

Does someone know how to read ;o)

If they were, as reported, 8 bikes abreast, wouldn't that shorten it up considerably?

but one wonders: Since they were headed that way yesterday - why no intervention?

All those SWAT teams too busy bashing in innocent peoples doors - and/or the bikers didn't bring their dogs for target practice?

We have lots of ‘passive suicide’ types here who take their big ass racing bikes out on the highways and run a quarter mile on the back wheel.

Apparently it’s very possible.

More than once I’ve seen where a biker and a car driver had gotten into a tiff, and the biker was flanking the car and madly kicking dents into it.

The two stroke ban WAS an EPA compliance move.

Or are you telling me that it’s legal to drive around with no catalytic converters if your vehicle was so equipped when new?

The scary part about moose is that they're active at night and their coat blends in with the color of the asphalt. Most people who hit them never see them standing in the road.

"BANGOR, Maine — They’re majestic and awe-inspiring. But as breathtaking and imposing as moose are, they also can be deadly.

With an adult bull moose in its prime weighing as much as 1,600 pounds and standing as tall as 8 or 9 feet, moose pose serious risks to Maine motorists.

Thirty-three people have been killed in car-moose collisions in Maine since 1995, according to crash statistics maintained by the Maine Department of Transportation.

Because of their build — barrel-shaped bodies atop spindly legs — when moose are hit broadside, their legs break and their bodies often fly over hoods and through windshields.

They’re also hard to see, especially at night, because of their blackish fur, which tends to absorb rather than reflect light."

The reports started coming in around 2 p.m. from various spots on I-270 and I-70, most recently in the north St. Louis county area.

That's where Eric Holder's people live!

Not, this would be like requiring cats to be added to older legal vehicles.

you do not need a seat belt or a catalytic converter on any vehicle that was not equipped when new...and it is perfectly legal to drive such vehicles today.

Nope - the EPA regs ban 86-on two strokes from on-highway use for pollution violation. This is exactly like cats - if you have a pre-cat car, you can operate it all you want without cats. If you have a post-cat-mandate car, you can’t, and if you have a post-mandate off-highway vehicle that didn’t have cats to start with, you can’t use it on-highway. That’s (sadly) the law.

Yeah, and it’s still illegal to use any post-86 two stroke on-highway. Just like post-86 machine guns and civilian non-FFL ownership, etc., etc

“White Tail through your window” is an issue here since the libs started bringing their little 4 banger tuna cans out this way.

The state even added black bear silhouettes to the “Caution! Wildlife next 10 miles” signs and they still don’t slow down or pay attention.
