CBS/AP) CINCINNATI A tea party activist is challenging U.S. House Speaker John Boehner in the 2012 Republican primary.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that David Lewis announced his candidacy on Friday.
Lewis, 26, is the father of a 2-year-old girl, and says he plans to run on a single issue Boehner's support of a federal budget that includes funding for Planned Parenthood, which he calls "the largest killer of unborn babies in America."
Lewis told the newspaper he plans to run graphic...

"Could backfire." It is at least 99% certain to backfire, to the extent that it has an effect at all.
Did that arms joined picture in a protest even suggest the ability to articulate one's beliefs in a persuasive manner--or merely a form of self-proclamation!
People need to "wake up and smell the coffee," before they try their hands at ideological confrontation. It requires empathy--the ability to understand what motivates others. Without that, you cannot really persuade.

He should have moved there before declaring he was running. Besides, he’s a Randall Terry loon.
You have just outed what the Boehner-haters are about: Ignorance.
We have discussed here many times that Boehner does NOT have a tan at all. His skin coloring, with which you are weirdly obsessed, is natural. Period. End of story.
However, your obsession is the emblem of your overall ignorance. Boehner is a conservative Republican. What you apparently would want would be an EXTREME conservative. Whose conservatism, for example, does suit you?
Are the Tea Party demands for defense cuts part of your conservative playbook?
Your interest lies with attacking the only branch of government where Republicans are in the majority and have control. Why, for example, do you not attack the Senate? Or the current president? There, you will find much more egregious examples of liberalism than in the House.
Boehner haters want us to lose on every front.
No, he’s more like a Randall Terry supporting opportunist.
If, after Obama’s “pass this bill” speech, Boehner had said “When pigs fly,” we probably wouldn’t be having this discussion. You tell ME, what did Boehner state in his press release after the speech?
John Boehner is weak and clearly an 'old school' go-along-get-along politician. We could do better. To pretend that anyone opposing Boehner is somehow 'distracting' from beating Obama is a specious argument against challenging a weak Speaker of the House. However, because 98% of incumbents win re-election, I doubt Speaker Boehner will be job-hunting any time soon. Too bad - but kudos to young David Lewis for his chutzpa that may serve as a wake-up call to Boehner but will probably be little more than an annoyance to the weepy, well-tanned Speaker.
Getting beyond that, hypothetically, if he forces Boehner to dig in and fight Obama tooth and nail between now and the election, wouldn't that be a good thing?
Frankly, those new to ideological confrontation need to pause and take the time to educate themselves on that subject, as well as the particular subjects that motivate themselves. There are ways to proceed which help--as there are ways to proceed that actually hurt--the causes that inspire them.
Again, let me recommend an approach to the abortion question that Planned Parenthood has no effective answer for. It is a lot better than linking arms in a nuisance demonstration that turns others off. See Abortion Debate.
And you do not regain ground lost in turning others off, simply by personal enthusiasm, that is foolishly directed.

Makes one wonder exactly who they might be working for...
“Boehner compromises too damn much.
If we are to win this war, the Gloves must come off!. Boehner said just yesterday that there are parts of Obama’s jobs bill that can be worked with. That would be all well and good if it’s only the tax cuts but Boehner will compromise with other things to get the tax cuts. It’s insane and always results in a pyrrhic victory”
Then you’ll probably want to dig right in, and spend your efforts in order for this 26 year old from another district, to defeat Boehner.
A waste of time., and a reflection of inability to arrange priorities.
Justa hint: the priority should be defeating Obama and dems, not this silliness.
He needs to go.
Your mind ain't right. Years of liberalism have taken its toll on you.
IMHO, he would only highlight the meme that the TP is full of fringers and kooks being that he’s affiliated with Randall Terry.
Boehner had a very good pronouncement out this morning stating why he opposed each and every part of Obama's jobs bill.
The public is onto Obama now and siding with Boehner's position and people want to now remove the Speaker? Really?
Sheesh. So many conservatives have suicidal tendencies.
It’s excellent news that Boehner will be challenged — especially by a young Tea Party candidate. However, he has already made his first mistake. He cannot limit his campaign to only one issue, as important as the abortion issue is. Boehner is vulnerable on SO many issues, if one limit’s the attack on him to one issue, it is a gauranteed loss. I hope this young candidate will revise and expand his plan — and/or some more seasoned advisors will come alongside him and guide him in the way that he should go.
So, you are saying that if you had a choice of Randall Terry or Obama as President that you would choose Obama?
But isn’t.
His will be done as always. btw, nice job exposing the statist here with your post, too.
There's nothing sacred about a Presidential address...and Boehner for the first time in a long while made that plain when he treated the speech as fluff by not honoring it with a formal response.
Statement by David Lewis:
media@davidlewisforcongress.com
WEST CHESTER, Ohio, Sept. 16, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ — On Monday David Lewis of Cincinnati, Ohio will announce his primary against John Boehner. Mr. Lewis is a pro-life/Tea Party activist who has protested and spoken out against Speaker Boehner’s betrayal of pro-life and Tea Party campaign promises. The announcement will take place in front of John Boehner’s Butler County office:
Date/Time: Monday, September 19, 2011 at 12:00 pm.
7969 Cincinnati-Dayton Road
West Chester, OH 45069
The following is a statement from Mr. Lewis:
“I used to believe in John Boehner until I found that his words were empty promises. In June 2010 Boehner stated, ‘When human life takes a back seat to other priorities — personal comforts, economics — freedom is diminished...we have a moral obligation to defend the defenseless. And nothing is more defenseless, or more innocent, or more pure, than an unborn baby.’ But this was not enough for Boehner; he solemnly declared, ‘There is no cause more noble than the defense of human life. There is no mission more critical. No debate more urgent.’
“In his first nine months as House Speaker, John Boehner has had several opportunities to defund the largest baby killers in America — Planned Parenthood. But Boehner caved in to Obama, and gave Planned Parenthood taxpayer’s hard earned dollars. Neither pro-lifers nor Tea Party activists should ever forgive John Boehner for lavishing our money on Planned Parenthood.
“It is clear from the facts that Planned Parenthood is not only the largest killer of unborn babies in America, but also that they have become a criminal syndicate covering up the crimes of rapists, sex traffickers, and pedophiles.
“Concerning Obamacare, John Boehner could have stopped it dead in its tracks by refusing to fund it...

If, as they say, Boehner talks the talk and walks the walk from here on in, count me in as a supporter. Based on his past rhetoric, with actions that didn’t match the rhetoric, color me skeptical.
