I don't live in Ohio and I don't know anything at all about David Lewis, who plans to run against John Boehner in 2012. However, philosophically, I like the idea of political leaders being challenged by citizens. I dislike the idea of John Boehner going into his 22nd year in congress. Being a congressional Representative and now, Speaker of the House, proves this position is a career for him, which means he'll play the compromise game with Democrats that always translates to this scenario: Democrats make demands, Republicans oppose those demands Republicans give up something, Democrats give up nothing, they make a deal and call it 'bi-partisan'. Been there, done that.
John Boehner is weak and clearly an 'old school' go-along-get-along politician. We could do better. To pretend that anyone opposing Boehner is somehow 'distracting' from beating Obama is a specious argument against challenging a weak Speaker of the House. However, because 98% of incumbents win re-election, I doubt Speaker Boehner will be job-hunting any time soon. Too bad - but kudos to young David Lewis for his chutzpa that may serve as a wake-up call to Boehner but will probably be little more than an annoyance to the weepy, well-tanned Speaker.
