~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Moody Air Force Base, Georgia

Moody Air Force Base is a United States Air Force installation located in Lowndes County and Lanier County, about 9 miles northeast of Valdosta, Georgia, United States.

Moody Air Force Base is home to the 23d Wing. The wing executes worldwide close air support, force protection, and combat search and rescue operations (CSAR) in support of humanitarian interests, United States national security and the global war on terrorism.

The base is host to one HH-60G rescue squadron and one HC-130P rescue squadron. The HC-130P flies low-level missions into hostile territory to effect rescues and to provide air refueling for rescue helicopters. The HH-60G helicopter provides combat search and rescue capability as well as fulfilling a peacetime role of search and rescue. The AT-38 squadron focuses on teaching recent pilot training graduates the fighter aircraft fundamentals. The T-6 squadron instructs pilot training students the fundamentals of flying.

The 23rd Wing is the host unit at Moody Air Force Base near Valdosta, Ga. The wing organizes, trains and employs combat-ready A-10C, HC-130P, HH-60G, pararescuemen, force protection assets and support personnel. The wing executes worldwide close air support, force protection and rescue forces to include combat search and rescue and personnel recovery in support of humanitarian interests, United States national security and worldwide contingency operations.

The wing is home to the 347th Rescue Wing, the only Combat Search and Rescue Wing in the Air Force. Their mission is to organize, train, and employ a combat-ready, HC-130, HH-60 rescue wing consisting of 3,400 military and civilian personnel. The wing supports the 479th AETC Flying Training and 820th Security Forces Groups in all operations. The 347th Rescue Wing executes worldwide peacetime and Combat Search and Rescue operations in support of humanitarian and U.S. national security interests. The wing provides logistical and base support functions for assigned personnel and over 5,000 family members.

The primary mission of the HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter is to conduct day or night combat search and rescue, or CSAR, operations into hostile environments to recover downed aircrew or other isolated personnel during war. Because of its versatility, the HH-60G is also tasked to perform military operations other than war. These tasks include civil search and rescue, emergency aeromedical evacuation, disaster relief, international aid, counterdrug activities and NASA space shuttle support.

Autumnal feel to the day.

I was migrant labor yesterday.. Migrated on over to runamuck.

Picked about 20 lbs of green beans.

Yes, working short.

I worked too hard yesterday, couldn’t go to sleep .

I’m seriously dragging today.

The most poignant memory of the brave men stationed at Moody were the ones involving the ones that had the job of removing the alligators off the runways so the planes could take off.

Is he dropping a “red” test missile? Doesn’t look right for a training device.

Have a good evening with the pets...
...maybe a hot bath, a good book, and a shower?

Enjoy what's left of your evening. *HUGS*

I'm fine. Miss my wonderful DH. (Who is fine, in Iraq.)

The kitties are fine. Still have 2 foster kittens: Cheeto and Van Gogh (both orange tabbies).

It's still hot. 99 today. 99 tomorrow. 103 Wednesday. 101 Thursday .... you get the idea! (grin) We average 10-12 days over 100 every September. We do see some nice weather by mid-October, though.
