Great plan from the Romney camp... rely on 3 events taking place that the Romney camp has absolutely no control over. Looks like his strategy is, “be lucky”.

Rick Perry is pitted against Mitt Romney, the governor of Massachusetts, capital, Boston, Greater Boston is 4.5 million people. It is the only metro area in Massachusetts of such size
Rick Perry was Governor of Texas…… Greater Houston is 5.4 million folks, Dallas Fort Worth is 6.4 million and San Antonio is 2.2 million. Even the western metro area of El Paso exceeds at 650,000 exceeds any smaller than Boston Massachusetts area.
In spite of the fact there are several large populated cities, Texas is an agricultural, make that great agricultural, state. Texas has cotton fields that exceed the size of some states. The city population has a rural flavor even though they are decidedly citified. Rick Perry Went to Texas A&M, An Aggie, A farmer? no a rancher. There are tremendous areas where cattle are raised. There is a ranch in Texas bigger than Rhode Island or Delaware. These are people of the land who produce incomprehensible quantities of stuff to eat and fibers to wear. They do what they do by using the leading edge technology applied by Texas A&M. They are the best in the world at what they do and are far, very far from being bumpkins. Rick Perry is evolved from these roots. (Texas also has major league seafood producers, but I digress)
The roads in the Bay state are falling apart and a third are said to be in poor condition. The cost of repairs to vehicles is in effect a tax, a bad road tax. The governor Romney and others are unable to do the simple task of keeping the roads up. Meanwhile, the roads in Texas are good to excellent and there are far more miles than in the state up north. We must not be guilty of giving Gov Perry the total credit for the excellence of the Texas roads, from interstates and city freeways down to the thousands of miles of well designed and paved farm roads, but he administered the state that developed and maintained the excellence.
There are many other points that can be made about many different aspects of governance and aspects of ordinary life, but the status of the roads is an indicator that carries the principle. The roads are an indicator of excellence and stewardship. The bad roads are also an indicator of the inability to cope or purposeful disregard and perhaps priorities that are misplaced.
Being Governor of Texas requires a much vaster vision than being governor of Massachusetts. The vision required for governing Texas and that actually provided by Governor Rick Perry compared to that of Governor Romney is overwhelming.
I agree with the article, but I’m skeptical about the author. How can you impale Palin with “2/3 of the voters will definitely not vote for her” and in the same breath call her a “king-maker” ?????? She’s either desirable to have around, on the ticket, at your side, or undesirable altogether. I don’t understand.

She’s going to IA, NH, and who knows where else, she’s maintained this PAC, hired staff, has these sub-rosa grassroots people, went to the IA state fair and to that movie event in Pella, etc...all so she can endorse Rick Perry?
And what kind of kingmaker would she be? Perry is already up by double digits nationally and in IA and SC. By the end of the month his leads could be even greater. So if she endorses him when he’s up by 10-15 on the rest of the field will that really make her the kingmaker?
It’ll just look like she’s jumping on the bandwagon, late to the party. Is she going to take credit for his victory when he was already up big without her help?
And if she’s really as unpopular and toxic as the media says she is, why would Perry even want her endorsement? It would only hurt him in the general. “The successor to W in TX, endorsed by Sarah Palin in IA” I don’t know if he wants that tag. If she really wanted to help Perry, she’d stay out and let him without her influence and then he’d be better off in the general and couldn’t be tagged as being “annointed” by her.
If she had endorsed Perry way back when he announced right at the start to give him a boost I could see that. But endorsing him a few weeks from now when his lead will likely only have increased won’t have any impact. WHat’s the news going to say, “TX Gov Rick Perry, currently lapping the GOP field was endorsed by Sarah Palin today, but will it matter, he already has a huge lead”
The most plausible explanation for what she’s doing is that she’s still considering running herself. There’s no reason at all to go to IA and NH if she’s not. None. The most plausible is that she’s waiting to see how Perry does over the next few weeks(whether he starts to fade) and if by the end of the month she sees an opening, she’ll probably get in.
If Perry is cruising and beating back all comers, I think she likely stays out and focuses on the House and Senate races and just assuming the same role she did in the 2010 elections.

It’s an overhead issue. The AF feels a lot like the USCG in that its a bunch of services nobody else wants to take on or doesn’t strictly fit somewhere else, but are still necessary.
If you’d like, morph it into a Joint Strategic Services Command and put all the space, cyber, strategic bombing, satellite, recon, and other assets under it and turn it into a big help desk for the Army, Navy, and Marines. All the branches need those services, save the strategic bombing, which we still have for the time being.
Maybe that’s what’s happening to the AF anyway. It’s a big integration of the information management of the strategic and tactical pictures.
Ground, sea, and expeditionary forces are three very specialized military arts all their own. Strategic bombing and force information management and reporting are as well, I guess. Certainly, being able to use battlefield information more quickly at the strategic and tactical levels is a discipline all its own, and it exists at a level above the three distinct military arts.
Now add the drones and it just feels like air assets are becoming components of ground, sea, and expeditionary military arts.
The next war, I think, will be won by the one that integrates any/all battlefield information the best.
Eliminating the Air Force, in my opinion, forces the issue on the services. The FBI and CIA are separate for very good reasons, but I think the separation caused 9/11 in many ways because the information was mismanaged and not available when it was necessary. Those that did have the information didn’t have enough of it, and didn’t have the authority to share it, or the authority to act domestically.
I think we are vulnerable to an attack that originates domestically in the form of some disabling types of attacks to critical infrastructure, which leaves us vulnerable to an external military attack.
Its just not clear to me why strategic air forces are itself a military discipline requiring an entire co-equal branch of the military, with all of the costs therein.
I can have my mind changed on the matter, but since Reagan introduced SDI, and then the end of the Cold War, the Air Force seemed like it was a service without an essential mission.
We’ll always need strategic missiles and bombers, until the ballistic missile is obsoleted by other types of weapons.
To me, the integration of information has ALWAYS been a problem as long as there has been warfare. I think its a military art as distinct as ground, sea, and expeditionary military arts. I feel that’s espeically true today.
Our armed forces have been accused of fighting the last war for a long time now. I think the AF is a reflection of that sort of mentality.
IF Perry feared debates, he’d have NEVER run for President. I found him to rather good against Kay Baily Hutchison...he creamed her.

I’m doubting a lot of what was said in the article. For starters, I never knew that Perry ran against Ben White. But I’m guessin’ the reason he didn’t debate Ben was because as the frontrunner he didn’t need to. No need to take a risk when it makes no sense.
Texas, which crafts a budget every two years, was facing a $6.6 billion shortfall for its 2010-2011 fiscal years. It plugged nearly all of that deficit with $6.4 billion in Recovery Act money, allowing it to leave its $9.1 billion rainy day fund untouched.
Even as Perry requested the Recovery Act money, he railed against it. On the very same day he asked for the funds, he set up a petition titled “No Government Bailouts.”
