Perry dominates in South Carolina (PPP Poll has Perry up by 23 pts.)
Public Policy Polling ^ | 8/30/11 | PPP

Raleigh, N.C. – If there was any question that Rick Perry is the new Republican presidential frontrunner before now, PPP’s latest poll of South Carolina confirms it. A week ago, PPP showed Perry jumping to a narrow lead in first-caucus Iowa. Now, he has a double-digit lead in what will likely be the third-voting state. Perry tops with 36% to Mitt Romney’s 16%, Michele Bachmann’s 13%, Herman Cain’s 9%, Newt Gingrich’s 8%, Ron Paul’s 5%, Rick Santorum’s 4%, and Jon Huntsman’s 2%. This is a sea change from when PPP last polled the race in June, with Perry not included. Romney led with 30% to Cain’s and Gingrich’s 15%, Bachmann’s 13%, and Paul’s 10%.

If Sarah Palin joins the fray, it has no impact on Perry’s dominance but a lot on Bachmann’s standing. Palin would place third at 10% behind Perry still at 36%, Romney at 13%, followed by Cain’s 9%, and Bachmann and Gingrich tied at 7%.

"Yep. The Perry Pimps are busy today again I see."

And I am sure the Palin pimps are busy calling for an Oct. Nov. Dec surprise (secret) announcement with more lies that she is announcing on this date and that date.

There was a whole blog in 2008, HillBuzz Free Republic, that got fat and happy on people coming there to bitch about polls, how they were tainted and how McCain was going to win. Well that turned out to be delusional.

Fixed it for ya.

As a result of this, my support for Palin is wavering. In light of the fact that the MSM in in total smear mode, Palin needs to either poop or get off the pot. If she doesn’t announce by this weekend, then I’m going all in for Perry.

I agree. Enough with being coy, either commit or bow out Sarah. In any event, the filing deadlines start coming real soon, so if she hasn't chosen, the choice will be made for her.

The Perry/Romney thing reminds me of the Armstrong/Ullrich thing in the Tour de France. As long as Armstrong was in, Ullrich was never gonna do better than second. If Ullrich had just been born a few years earlier or later he probably would have won multiple tours, but it was not meant to be.

Perry’s entry in the race dashed Romney’s chances. He has all of Romneys strengths and a LOT more, without the baggage. i.e. nobody talks about “PerryCare”.

I’m not seeing this that way. Sorry. I’m seeing it as a “look, another nail in the coffin.” sort of thing. How accurate is this source normally? I don’t care if they are biased as long as it is factored in. Everyone’s biased.

I have been wondering for some time if Paln is setting herself up for a VP position. Everything in it’s order, and all that.

Did LaRouche run in 1980?

I was a big Bachmann fan until today. I’m still a fan, but I have to mull over that “God” statement about the disasters. I can say it. You can say it. Pretty much anyone can say it. That is, unless they are running for president, then it really exposes one as “not ready for prime time”.

The only positive attribute I’ve seen in Romney is his “looks and acts kinda like a TV president” thing. But Perry has that as well, and it is coupled to an excellent political string of accomplishments - at least compared to anyone else with their hat in the ring.

And I LOVE that 85mph speed limit thing. That alone shows a mindset I can appreciate in a leader.

—The Perry train is gathering speed daily and will soon be unstoppable!—

I’m starting to see it that way. The only thing that could throw a monkey wrench into it is the “peaked too soon” syndrome. Time will tell if that will be an issue.

I didn’t start following the 2008 primaries until, well, 2008. I’m only interested in who’s left after the first few cuts.

Are you RED SOUTH and South40, you know an IP check can confirm this. I saw your tagline in RED SOUTH’s a few days ago, did you pilfer his ideas or his bedroom slippers. Wow has FR deteriorated to the point posters have to have three logins to post sophism, complaints and various mouth diarrhea.

I’m with you on this one. The attacks on the polling source that I have seen here are, by definition, ad-hominem attacks. If there is substance behind these attacks it needs to be stated for them to be taken remotely seriously.

For what it’s worth, I’m completely with you on this thing intellectually, though I am a HUGE Palin supporter. I have talked to enough people from all walks of life, however, that think Palin is an idiot in the way some people swear Chevy’s are better than those crappy Japanese rice burners. And their minds will be as easy to change.

It would, IMHO, literally take an act of God for Palin to be the next president. And Perry is a solid - extremely solid - known quantity that offers a lot of what she does. And a Perry/Palin ticket would be the first time since 1980 that I would actually vote FOR a particular candidate as opposed to against one.

Not that I think that will happen. Just dreaming...

PPP had Doug Hoffman up by 19 points three days prior to the special election in NY23 two years ago.

PPP is the official pollster of Kos and has financial links to the Democratic Party. Only fools and people with agendas (e.g. Allahpundit at HA) cite PPP.

—This guy is not Conservative.—

Compared to whom? That can do a good job?

I remember starting to go to church in 1981 and being blown away by the support I saw there for Carter. I thought, “what the heck? Aren’t these people conservative Christians?”

Then I remembered - Carter was the “Christian” candidate. He had the evangelical vote.

He was a real nice guy, and totally worthless. IOW, being far right conservative is only part of the qualification. You need to have the power to do something with it.

Or, to put it another way, 30% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

Until you can do that, you're nothing but just another whining little Palin supporter who can't stand it that somebody besides Palin is grabbing the limelight and the momentum, and who has to spin weird little conspiracy theories to account for the fact that reality is not meshing with your own personal little self-contained fact space.

Yep, the Palin folks will certainly back that up. LMAO

You're pushing a Bush clone. Yes I know there is friction between the Bush folks and the Perry team. The fact remains.

Can't you folks see the dangers of supporting another Bush-like character to the White House?

Here we go defeating true Conservatism for another eight years.

When do we start moving back to the right? If not now, when?

We need a real Conservative in there, and any honest person looking at Perry's history knows he is not one.

"They’ve turned this into RINO central USA. We have them openly hoping Bachmann will pull out. THIS is what Free Republic was created for?"

Palinista's were dissing Bachmann and calling her a RINO. Is THIS what this site is for?

I didn't post the damn poll, or the thread.

Yes I'm a conservative.

I thought you might have results from another poll that showed that this one was a outlier. I guess you don't.

I'm also not foolish enough to start bashing the only pro-life, pro-gun, anti-queer agenda, military supporting candidate in the race that has shown the ability to knock that worthless Bastard...Mutt Romney out of the top slot!

I refuse to get stuck with that bastard.

Didn’t we have a good luke warm man in there named Bush?

Did he avoid moving this nation to the precipice?

Now you want another moderate? What does it take for you to realize why we don’t elect moderates to represent us?
