Dear New York City,
In the nearly two thousand years since my founding,
I have endured floods, repelled invasions, stooped low before plagues,
risen again from great fires, shielded my people from Spanish fleets and
Nazi rockets, burned in riots, outlived terrorism, shivered in blizzards,
bled in civil wars, and declined and fallen, only to rise once again.

Your little storm? It wouldn't even make the footnotes of my history.

Sincerely,
The City of London, England.

...but, but...our President looks SO presidential sitting in the "Office Of The President, Hurricane Irene Command Storm Center".

Did The Prez have a Special Seal made for the occasion?

Well the MSM HAD to build it up so that when things were cleaned up quickly afterwards, they could praise Obama for being so efficient in dealing with it, and contrast that to Geroge W. Bush and Katrina.

I watched the news about the hurricane. The hurricane itself was of limited, mild passing interest. But the hysterics of the TV people had me doubled over laughing.

When I saw the news this morning that Irene has been downgraded to a tropical storm, I knew all those people would be desolate. I hate to see people unhappy, but they'd be better off if they could find joy in something closer to reality.

I remember a few years back Kentucky suffered thru an ice storm, and western Tennessee was devastated by flooding...without so much as a sympathy card from the Zero administration. The PEOPLE rolled up their sleeves, and got 'er done.

Watching the hysteria on local television here in New England is shameful and embarrassing...we haven't even lost power. Considering that a dog fart usually takes out the power around here; that is saying something.

Why do people insist on writing this stuff?
This area has one of the highest population densities in the world. It has not faced a major hurricane in at least decades from I understand.
Why would they not prepare ahead of time? No one knows what to expect. And of course hurricanes can be very unpredictable.

You have obviously no idea of what would have happened if it had remained at the original strength. I've been though 4 hurricanes with Katrina being the last and worst. Irene was running the same sort of track and was of a comparable size as Katrina (not as strong, but plenty to be a real terror. When a storm like that hugs the coast and runs along it, rather than coming straight in, two things happen. It pushes water ahead of it, then the rotation moves the water inland. If it had even remained a Cat 2, it would have been a true disaster.

When folks like you bitch about the "hype", you show your ignorance - much better to "cry wolf" than to underestimate even a little bit.In case you haven't read between the lines - stop acting like a moron...

Considering I just got a phonecall from my daughter who said her neighborhood was devastated from this storm, you can shut up and deal with your ignorance!

Hurricane hyperbole never goes out of style

Patrik Jonsson | The Christian Science Monitor | Aug 27, 2011

On one 24-hour news channel, a correspondent described the calm before hurricane Irene as the calm before a B-movie zombie attack. One anchor proclaimed the storm to be “as big as Europe.” Elsewhere, the hurricane was touted as the storm of a lifetime.

Storm hype is of course nothing new, neither is saying overwrought things when trying to fill up hours of airtime.

But as the hurricane approached, the fever pitch of the Irene coverage took on a life of its own, with government officials leading a chorus of caution even as closer watchers of the weather, especially on the ground in North Carolina, grew increasingly convinced that Irene would not strengthen, but steadily weaken instead into something closer to a massive tropical storm.

On one network, “they are desperately trying to [show] a nail, a shingle, anything. It’s getting embarrassing,” one Internet commenter said as Irene’s core made landfall with 74 mile-per-hour ground speed readings in many locations near its eye – right on the line between a tropical storm and a hurricane. Days earlier, forecasters believed a catastrophic Category 4 storm was a distinct possibility.

There are 10 people dead so far because of this “overhyped” storm, including an eleven year old child who was apparently allowed to go outside by parents who thought this was a “little, over-hyped storm”.

OMG. . .PEOPLE DIED. . .OMG. . .RUN FOR THE HILLS. . .OMG. . .A LITTLE BOY. . .OMG. .. .NO ONE SHOULD DIE. . .EVER. . .THE CONSERVATIVES LIED AND PEOPLE DIED. . .LET'S RUN TO THE DEMOCRATS. .THEY WILL PROTECT US.

Please dear God stop this nonsense. . .Do you know about how many people died this past July?. . you better sit down. . .men, women AND CHILDREN died in July. OMG. . SOMETHING IS WRONG. . OMG!!!!SOMEBODY PLEASE FIX THIS MESS WE ARE IN!!. . .Look, people die everyday. . .we don't stop the world because of it. . .this was nothing but a media-driven event stoked up by the recent anxiety over an earthquake and seasoned with a bunch of cowardly, self-interested politicians that were only afraid of getting tagged with the Bush-Katrina label. . which, itself, was one of the greatest travesties of history (Blaming Bush for a Hurricane). It is liberal, media WUSSIFIED CLAPTRAP. . .we are supposed to be a nation that has a pair. .and comprised of citizens that are confident to face life's challenges. . .not a bunch of cowards with gelatin souls cowering in the corner overwrought with angst and fear because a branch struck and killed an unfortunate child. . .please!

Yes, throughout that two thousand years London has endured. It will not, however, withstand the Muslim and foreign infestation it is faced with now. The only thing that will rise from the ashes are minarets.

More people died in car accidents last night, than died in all of this storm.

It is never funny when someone dies. But you have to keep this whole thing in context.

But this is not even close to being a major storm. Except if my power goes out. Then I will be pissed.

A little news August weekend — an event like this minor storm is milked for all it’s worth.

Well, here's the deal.

Bush and Rove, (Evil Republicans - are there any other type of Republicans?), had a Hurricane Machine that targeted Democrat strongholds such as New Orleans. In order to enhance the damage from the Hurricanes, Bush and Rove would send out Killer Robots to blow up the Levees and Flood Control Infrastructure to make things even worse.

When Obama took over, he sent Reggie Love down to the catacombs below the White House to find the mythical Bush / Rove Hurricane Machine. With the help of Bo, the Obama’s exceptionally talented Dog, Reggie was able to sniff out the location of the machine.

Obama, a very caring, smart and thoughtful Leader, (did I mention magnanimous?), wanted to utilize the Hurricane Machine as a force for good, or is it a force for what's good for you? (Doesn't matter, it's the thought that counts).

Obama and his crack advisers, Biden, Wright and Ayers developed a strategy to use the machine at minimum power while telling the Sycophant Press that the pending doom of Hurricane Irene would be Historical in its threat to humanity and kittens that populate the East Coast.

One the dye was cast, the Media performed their duties without hesitation and regret. Reporters standing in 6" puddles, hoping for Tsunami like waves to wash over them, (or raw sewage), and those same reporters getting a tingle down their legs as the Dear Leader took personal control of the situation without having to be dragged off the Golf Course like he did when Seal Team Six took out OBL. There wasn't a Golf Shirt in sight as Obama got behind the pink microphone to assure the Nation that he was reversing his vast experience of creating chaos to save us all from certain death and wet shoes and socks.

I don't know about you, but I have been mesmerized by the can do, damn the torpedoes actions of the One. He is truly a Gift from Allah...
