Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

Yes, it does. And it would be very noticeable very quickly, as lots of other stuff would come on that is currently off.
At this point, the generator is only partially installed. As I mentioned, the electricians working on our basement project installed it this week, but for them, it isn't a high priority. For me, on the other hand... So, they still need to come back and hook up one of the heat pumps and a few of the appliances. Right now, none of the major kitchen appliances, or the washer or dryer, are connected.
But we can unplug the microwave from its outlet and plug it into one of the functioning wall outlets in the kitchen, we can use the coffee maker, and the electric frying pan, as well. My wife anticipated the storm and cooked several days’ worth of meals that can be nuked, we can fry eggs, or we could even cook steaks if we wanted, the fridge is working fine, we have running water, working toilets, Internet, e-mail, TV... it's PARADISE!! LOL!!
I actually had the electrician out here yesterday, as the rain and wind was picking up, until about 4 pm, hooking up more stuff. Truly, I'm a slave-driver.
Well, I surveyed the property a little more closely. Other than some broken tree branches (we have a pretty good number of trees), and the fact that some parts of the yard could now officially be declared wetlands, no visible damage.
I don't know when we'll get our power back. But I went out and looked at the fuel guage, and I'm guessing that at the current rate of consumption, I'm using about a gallon of propane an hour, or even less, so I could hold out here without BGE for a week or more.

I’m in Catonsville. The power is on, it looks like some vines and a shurb in the back yard are lost. Some large, old tree branches are down.

Tho this mess keeps rotating counterclockwise and feeding continuous rainclouds over the Susqhehanna Valley, it's also continuing to move slowly north.
The WunderMap has made it look like we should have been getting moderate rain since about 1800 yesterday.
But apart from a light off/on sprinkle and ~15-20mph breezes out here in the country this morning, it appears to have been relatively precipitation free overnight.
The actual effect re rain seems to be that it's been falling all along, but turns to humidity on the way down and then just hangs there like a tropical sweatsuit clinging to everything !
All the AGWbs aside, the bullet that this area has so far dodged re Irene will likely circle back around in a few months and shoot us in the ass with mountains of snow .. lol
There's still today to get thru of course .. the downpour threat won't pass til this evening, and the wind acts like it would love to gust up and scatter limbs all over.
Y'all will hear nary a peep from me about having gotten all the soakables up off the 'garden level' floor and shopvacs on standby to aid the sumps.
Awoke at 0600 to find power still on and 'net still up, both of which were even more welcome than finding no interior ponding ! Not having gotten the brunt of it that many of you are having to cope with, I'm looking at it as a general preparedness exercise for SHTF season next year.
My thoughts to all of you who've suffered propery damage and 'cane stress throughout, and best wishes for your cleanup exertions.
And that goes double to those of you still in the path of this thing.

Disruptors notwithstanding, this thread has been a comfort and a welcome/helpful distraction for many members, and prolly a fair number of lurkers too. 
Checking in from suburban Philadelphia. It’s light out now, and I did a quick walk around the interior of the house. It’s still raining, but lightly. We’re up to 16 hours of rain now. Light breezes; no heavy winds so far. Limbs all over the yard, but nothing major that I can see from the windows. Forecast has been somewhat downgraded by NWS with top wind gusts down to 46 now. Once the family is up we’ll go out and check the creek and the trees. After Isobel we thought that all was OK until we checked the trees and found one had started to uproot and lean toward the house. Power is on.
How sweet, thank you...I think I’ll be fine on the Upper East Side. Besides, we have no way to travel. :)

7:22am. From high ground at the Jersey Shore - it’s just a lot of wind and rain, no damage at all except for some downed branches. My NYC friends who have facebook are not reporting any problems.
From local news it looks like the Asbury Park boardwalk is taking a small hit. The news is so hysterical I don’t know what to believe. But right now everything seems pretty mild.
