The nor’easter of December ‘92 was the last good storm we had, and it was a doozie. No special prep for me, just some food and fresh water for the pooch. Otherwise all will be well.

Thank you so much for this thread. I have followed hurricane threads over the years but as a Michigander transplanted in New Jersey this is the first time I’ve been directly effected. I was feeling quite irritated after reading some of the other threads mocking the storm and, in turn, mocking those of us who are in the midst of it.

Regardless of the media frenzy and the armchair quarterbacking about what communities should and shouldn’t be doing, nature is to be taken seriously. My family has prepared for potential flooding and power outages. My husband is about to head out to report to his firehouse for the night, which means it will just be me and our boys here as the storm comes in.

Things have calmed down significantly here in Richmond and reports from Deltaville show the same. Winds at 35 kts at Stingray Point.

I know - but it just seemed (in my small mind), that securing trees near one’s home, would keep them from falling onto the house, causing major damage and possible injury. I know now, I was very wrong.

Spoke with my friend in Va Beach who lives in a home six blocks in from the sea. He tells me that he and his family are sitting in the dark, he can hear fire trucks and other emergency vehicles in the area and is concerned about the structural integrity of the roof overtop the living room of his house.

Theyre sitting there listening to music and eating the ice cream before it goes bad. Oh, and hes waiting for the odd looter to try and pry their way in.

Play is resuming at Fenway for Game 2 of the Red Sox vs Oakland A's game after a roughly 40-minute rain delay.

The Red Sox just Tweeted: To Our Fenway Faithful: Come to Fenway right now and get into the game for free! (the park is currently about 3/4 empty)

Kewl, but that's about a 2-hour commute (one-way) for us, LOL.

If the current tracking prediction is accurate, the eye of the storm will pass right over us, if it has an eye by the time it gets up here.

Well, things are calm right now. Some moderate rain, is all. But very humid. Thankfully, it’s cool up here in the hills. We have the french doors open onto the deck.

The kids (we have quite a few) are watching a movie in the other room. I’m out here near the deck listening for critters. No mammal sounds and no owls. No coyotes baying. Not even frogs. Unusually quiet for a night in the forest. God tells his creatures to take cover.

I can hear the brook down in the valley, about 900’ to our east. I imagine we’ll hear it roaring if we get as much rain as they say we will.

We’re on the side of a small mountain, about half way up, so we’re somewhat high and dry. Our biggest threat is falling trees taking out power and blocking the road, and, of course, washouts. We’ve certainly had our share of those, over the years.

Still have to get the plow ready for winter. Truck’s in rough shape, too, so that will need some work.

Been watching the radar. Was looking kind of nasty for a bit. Not sure if the questionable spot was what just passed or another spot out in the ocean.

I think part of the problem is that that typically when you have a barometer near 28.00 and I saw a 28.15 on a NC buoy site, you expect much stronger winds. The two just typically go together.

It's indeed odd to have such a low barometer almost in the 27's with only 80 mph sustained winds. Barometers that low are typical with cat 3 or even 4 storms. This one is indeed a strange duck.It could easily put up some question marks.

Thinking of you guys. Had company all day and only got general information. Do you have any idea how the Melfa area is doing? Isn’t your area supposed to get a huge amount of rain?
