Approximately 65 million people are likely to be directly impacted by Hurricane Irene as the storm takes aim at the densely populated Eastern Seaboard. Evacuations are underway for high flood risk areas.
Mass transit cancellations, schedule changes and road/bridge closures are occurring throughout the storm warning areas. Please check with local news and Emergency Management Operations to determine the recommendations for your immediate area.

“By the time the hurricane reaches NY, they’re predicting 60 mph winds.”
At ground level...
What does that translate to on the 30th floor?

Mayor Bloomberg just stated all Zone A locations have a mandatory evac. Don’t know where your mom is but it should be all over the area. Good Luck!

I’m not buying it. To get back on the Stormpulse track (a Cape Lookout landfall), Irene would have to slice like one of John Daly’s drives and nothing seems to indicate that it will.

Im so tired of the constant news on this hurricane, uggh ! The rest of us who are in line for a direct or semi-direct hit are grateful for the constant updates.

Obama cuts vacation short Aunt Esther? If it were only the case (boy I wish!)... no, this is somebody whispering into his ear that he had better be in the White House during a disaster and not off on vacation or the golf course.

But the great and omniscient Obamugabe said that his election would stop the oceans from rising!
Will he make a statement repudiating the storm surge?

Forgive me, but I think I see the usual, "if it happens on the east coast, it's the biggest deal in the world" media bias. I believe they share sports 'reporters' with ESPN...

Right. It’s gonna hit further west of Cape Lookout. Maybe even all the way over to Emerald Isle (city).

Well, let’s say, for the sake or argument that it’s double - a full 120 mph. Does anyone see that as toppling the Empire State Building?

Toppling? No
Sweeping the floors clean? perhaps...
And remember, this isn’t gusting, but sustained winds over a period of hours.

...how much of this media hysteria is really justified... Every time this storm weakens a bit; the disappointment from the media is almost palpable...

Isnt it sucking in dry air? It's weird - over the past hour, it actually looks like it's falling apart.

They didn’t release my husband from base until noon, and as I work as a civilian on base, I wasn’t released from my responsibility to report tomorrow until about an hour ago. Heck, they didn’t even cancel school today, and my kids didn’t get home until an hour ago themselves. There was no mandatory evacuation. The only friend I have that has left was a women who has horses and wanted to be sure she had a spot in Raleigh for them at the fairgrounds.
