Despite my hopes, Sen. Marco Rubio will not run for president in 2012. But that doesnt mean he wont soon be within a heartbeat of the presidency. As the New Yorkers Ryan Lizza asked on Twitter: Is it time to rename GOP primaries the contest to become Marco Rubios running mate?
Indeed, despite his protestations, Rubio has to be on the short list of potential GOP running mates.
But the downside is that there is already a movement afoot (led by some on the fringe) to disqualify him from serving as president (which would presumably disqualify him from serving as vice president). Thats right some are arguing that Rubio is not eligible because he is not a natural born citizen.
Heres how the logic works (according to World Net Dailys Joe Kovacs): While the Constitution does not define natural-born citizen, there is strong evidence that the Founding Fathers understood it to mean someone born of two American citizens.
Kovacs (and he is not alone) goes on to reason that Rubios eligibility is in doubt because though his parents were legal U.S. residents when he was born they were not yet naturalized citizens.

That said, if Democrats want to argue that their black American is more of a *real* American than a Hispanic, then I wish them all the best. I'd love for that debate to run wild and free right before an election. Democrats hate Hispanics, film at 11. Yeah. I'd donate to left wing birthers just to keep that pain alive.

The Supreme Court has declared that the Constitution recognized two, and only two, forms of Citizenship. You are either a naturalized citizen, or you are born with citizenship.
The mythical third type of citizenship, “Natural Born Citizen”, does not exist.
Period.

The Supreme Court Has ruled no such thing.
Get your facts straight.
Rubio was born in the USA, his parents were not.
If he’s smart, Rubio will let the “birthers” stew for a few months and very publicly prove his eligibility.
Just because the Democrats have twisted and broken the law and trashed the Constitution is no reason why we should do the same.
Rubio is not a natural-born citizen. He is not qualified.
We need to restore the laws that Obama has broken, and make sure nothing like that ever happens again.

Obama had one citizen parent and one legal resident parent.
Both Rubio's parents were legal residents.
Personally, I'm a jus solis guy, so they're both NBCs in my book.

All Rubio has to do is claim that his long-form birth certificate is locked up in a vault somewhere in Florida, and then post a PDF of the short-form BC on his Web site.

They're quite straight, thank you. The Supreme Court swore Barack Obama into office on January 20th, 2009, based off of his birth in Hawaii, which made him an American citizen. They'll swear in Marco Rubio on January 20th, 2013, based off of his birth in Miami, which made him an American citizen.
Neither one of them is naturalized, they were citizens due to the location of their birth. Ergo, Obama's swearing in set precedence for what was previously a contested legal issue. You may want to split the atom on it, but the Supreme Court won't.

Why would the Framers have put that specific term in the Constitution? They set out eligibility requirements for Senator, Representatives and POTUS. Only the last has that phrase inserted in those qualifications.
Those men did not mince words, or insert them unnecessarily into the document that would govern the republic they had so recently suffered so much to achieve.
Maybe you know something the Framers didn’t?
