The Obamas' summer break in Martha's Vineyard has already been branded a PR disaster after the couple arrived four hours apart on separate government jets. But according to new reports, this is the least of their extravagances. White House sources today claimed that the First Lady has spent $10million of U.S. taxpayers' money on vacations alone in the past year. Branding her 'disgusting' and 'a vacation junkie', they say the 47-year-old mother-of-two has been indulging in five-star hotels, where she splashes out on expensive massages and alcohol. The 'top source' told the National Enquirer: 'It's disgusting. Michelle is taking advantage

The latest figure (2011) is $400,000 per year plus $50,000 expense allowance. But, don’t forget all of the money that comes in from sales of his books. s/off

Of course that does not count all the “gifts” he gets from various and sundry places. What I don’t understand is that previous presidents (except Clinton) “vacationed” at home — a place that already had security in place, or at Camp David.

Previous “Summer Whitehouses” that I remember included Roosevelt’s Campabello, Truman went back to Bess’s house in MO, Eisenhower’s Gettysburg Farm, Kennedy’s place on the Cape, Ford’s cabin in Vail, Nixon’s San Clemente, Carter’s Peanut Farm, Reagan’s Santa Barbara Ranch’ Bush’s family estate in Kennebunkport; and W’s ranch in Crawford.

Clinton is the only one without roots because he’d been living in the Governor’s mansion in Arkansas for 12 years before being elected President. But, Clinton’s friends “loaned” him houses to vacation. He didn’t have to pay rent.

I don’t understand why the Obamas never seem to want to go back to their lovely home in Chicago? They hadn’t lived there very long before thhhhey moved into the White House. You’d think that they’d want to be tweaking the decor and enjoying all their old friends — especially the kids. They NEVER seem to go home for anything.

“Never saw the point in vodka martinis. How can a drink be made from either gin or vodka and go by the very same name? That’s something else I don’t understand.”

The original Martini contained gin and gin only. Vodka was later substituted for the gin and it created a new drink called the “Vodka Martini” it became so popular that the vodka martini is consumed just as much, if not more than the gin version. That’s why people tell the bartender that they’ll have a vodka or gin martini so they know what to pour.

Thanks. I’m glad you didn’t tell me the original martini was vodka. That would have been harsh. Still I wish when they switched to vodka they could have come up with a distinct name. Something along the lines of...oh, I don’t know...crapini?

Sorry. I really like an extremely good, ***extremely*** dry gin martini. As soon as vodka’s in there, it doesn’t seem like a martini to me.

When I was young, 60 years ago, they had another cluster of words to describe what the Obama vacations are costing.

The buses should also be added to this waste.

Moochelle is as opulent driven by taxpayers dollars as Imelda Marcos was by the Philippine people.

I would like to know how much she has REALLY spent on the taxpayers dime total.

Bet that she is dug in as deep as Imelda was. maybe not the amount of shoes .. of course no one will care because she is “entitled” to all of it according to “The Won’s” worshipers in the press. But god forbid Palin spend republican money on a wardrobe because she never had the money herself to dress for the national stage.
