The Obama administration on Tuesday announced plans to streamline hundreds of regulations across all government departments and said that the review will likely save at least $10 billion over five years.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), however, called the effort "underwhelming." The regulatory review does not address the kinds of major items the GOP would like to eliminate, such as those associated with the Dodd-Frank financial reform, the Obama healthcare reform or a raft of new environmental regulations, including the possible regulation of greenhouse gases.
[snip] Cass Sunstein, the chief of regulations at the Office of Management and Budget noted the most significant changes, saving some $4 billion over five years, come from the Department of Labor, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Transportation.
[snip]The DOL change will simplify hazard warnings, saving $2.5 billion, while the Transportation Department is relaxing rules on railroads.
[snip]Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), who is leading the Senate GOP's fight against regulations, said that the Obama initiative is insufficient given the tide of new rules. "Since the start of the year, the administration has proposed more than 340 regulations at a cost of more than $65 billion to job creators. It is important to note that these are only the regulations for which the administration actually conducted an economic analysis. For hundreds more, it has regulated blindly, with no cost or job numbers associated with its rules," he said.
[snip] Responding to the criticism, Sunstein told reporters that $10 billion in savings is very significant. [snip] He said that the administration is implementing Dodd-Frank and healthcare reform in a way that is sensitive to costs

AMEN, Babe!
Here’s a list of 15 government departments that could be eliminated entierly. This is how the Republicans should respond. Don’t just trim regulations. Trim government programs!
I’m certain my fellow Freepers could assist the Republican’s in DC with their own suggestions. Here are 15 from and site I found called “Homeland Stupidity”
1. Office of National Drug Control Policy
2. Department of Agriculture
3. Department of Education
4. Department of Health and Human Services
5. Department of Housing and Urban Development
6. Department of Labor
7. African Development Foundation
8. Broadcasting Board of Governors
9. Environmental Protection Agency
10.Federal Communications Commission
11.Federal Reserve System
12.National Aeronautics and Space Administration
13.National Railroad Passenger Corporation
14.Social Security Administration
15.U.S. Botanic Garden
Guess we'll have have wait and see once the bill passes what's really in it.
This is another plot by the 0 admin. to, further, pull us down into the abyss of Socialism. This program is headed by, none other than, the infamous Cass Sunstein. Yes, that Cass Sunstein...one of 0bama’s best Chicago buddies and the legal (and very twisted) brain behind defeating the impeachment of Clinton.
If you don’t know him or his background, read this (scary) Wiki on him at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cass_Sunstein.
In the meantime I heard (Fox News) that the $10 Billion is over 5 years, while new regs going into effect at the end of this year will cost $9.5 Billion immediately.
Was it just after this lameass, idiot-ridden, and lying administration enacted roughly $9.5 billion worth of damaging regulations just last month> =.=
10 billion?
OK, I saved 5 bucks, 5 1950s dollars.
HE can save a billion Zimbabwe dollar and he will call himself the great one.
It must be nice to live the life of a delusional ridiculous princess...
This guy is not normal.
Is this guy really think of himself great princess for saving us 10 Zimbabwe dollars, (cuz the inflation is real in the aspect of government saving to spending), or is it mocking us?
Anyone not disturbed that for us 1 billion is a lot but for the government nothing?
What kind of sick empowerment is that?
This is obviously the mask of actual US poverty. We are a banana republic because the government is super rich in buying power than we are.
This is the real issue.
“Mr. Drop, meet Mr. Bucket.”
I think merchants are going to have to increase their price... fairly so against government people, and retake some of these taxes that way, or else we are going to fall in abject poverty... or business will have to ultimately shut down and reinflate the prices at will, without government interference.
This situation is untenable.
ONLY GOLD AND SILVER and stuff like these goods will be of real value.
Hold on to your ammo and hard gold, folkes.
THe ponzi scheme is knocking at the door.
I've never seen so clearly until this year the boundless contempt and disdain in which Democrats and liberal Republicans hold us. We are serfs in their eyes, with the sole purpose of continuing to increase their wealth and power, while they ensure that we will become paupers, helpless and dependent on them for crumbs in the years to come.
Our only chance of survival appears to be in electing a conservative president and a conservative congress. Nothing less will reverse the mammoth tidal wave of debt coming at us, nor the deep sea of regulations which already threatens to drown us.
Judging from reading some of his writings, you might be able to call him a "totalitarian".
Cantor was correctly listing out all the new regulations in place under Obama. All burdensome, all on the Democrat’s watch.
