This movie, "The Help" has been written, filmed and distributed with the sole purpose of inciting violence at a politically fragil time in this country. Yes, some of the events in the movie occurred, but it is nowhere representative of society as a whole.
As a matter of fact, the historical background of a lot of leading Democrats would tie directly to this film, but getting the general public to notice that at this time would be futile. Some unbelievably emotional scenes exist in this movie to denigrate white society to the fullest.
I can not believe the timing of the release of this film. The primary "evil" white woman character could very easily be a young Nancy Pelosi. Whoever has decided to release such a film at this time into a politically-charged environment bears a LOT of responsibility for the effects.
Exactly. Spoke to the author this weekend and this is exactly what she said inspired it. You nailed it. Now she is on to a new story.
Noted and view respected. How well said about the fund-raising scene. ROFL.
I saw the movie and thought it was very good. I didn’t see it as political at all. What I saw was a lot of racist white people and their “help”. That was part of our past and we can’t deny it anymore than the Germans can deny their past with the Jews. I came away with a sadness about how the blacks were treated. I’m not racist but I was embarrassed by those who were. That was our past and it’s time to move forward. But the same must be said to the blacks. They need to move forward too. I don’t see that happening as long as O’s in the White House, if ever.
I read it a few years ago when it first came out. I liked it a lot, and I thought of it more as a historical novel than one making a political statement.
I hate that everything has become an excuse for blacks to riot and loot, or threaten to do so.
The writer by the way in person is so funny. She has the delivery of a well honed comedian. Honestly she is just hilarious and a spitball of fire in person (with that sweet southern charm of course. :). She says it straight up and is very authentic. Breath of fresh air really.
I'm from Mississippi, and I didn't feel 'guilty', when listening. Yes, it's sad that some people treated their help poorly, because they considered them as less than they, but I didn't do it, and no one that I know, who employed black maids or gardeners, did so.
Lived there too and yes, you're right. Just concerned it could be taken the wrong way. Besides, all of us living today did not treat those people that way and certainly don't now. But, you and some others have a point...I'm probably a little too concerned these days. Seems some are trying to get something started.

I heard a great story in an interview of Buck O'Neil, the Negro League ballplayer. Jackie Robinson was on the team at the time and they were passing through an Oklahoma town that was a regular stop. They always stopped at a particular gas station run by a white guy, who was very friendly, but wouldn't let them use the rest room. Jackie got out of the bus and headed for the rest room. The guy said he couldn't use it. Jackie didn't hesitate and said take the hose out of the tank. Now that bus had something like two 50 gallon tanks and that was a big ticket. The guy thought about it and quietly said, OK, but be quick about it. LOL!
It's a crime IMHO that Buck isn't in the Hall of Fame. He has been an amazing ambassador for baseball and has been instrumental in preserving the legacy of the Negro Leagues.
So ... you must be REALLY irate that the MLK memorial is going to open?
Which gangsta rapper released what today?
It’s really not designed to incite violence. It was a book that is now a movie.
If you want to talk about fortuitous/planned timing that may exploit things ... we can talk about the “Obama Killed Bin Laden” movie that is going to come out before the election.
The first thing that hit me about that book, and I told one of black tenants about the book, same thing hit her too.
"You mean they couldn't use the main bathroom, but the would COOK?"
Now that is just funny and ludicrous at the same time.
I bought the book, and now all my church is reading it. lol. The book is better than the movie, but both good.
Of course, we can't disclose the rest of the story, said enough already. ROFL.
I did sense that maybe she left open room for a Sequel to this.
I’m a conservative realist. I don’t have my head up my butt ignoring what happened in our past.
The only real, actual KKK - lovin’ people I ever encountered in my life were Democrats in Washington County Maryland. When I was in my 20’s.
My parents were lily-white people who were Goldwater, then Nixon, then Reagan Republicans in lily-white Illinois (country)... but my parents had great friends who were black and in a traveling band. I’ll never forget my “uncle” Rudy Hunter who my mother called “her brother”. When my parents lived in Waterloo, Iowa... they were surrounded by Democrats... in fact, the developer was going to name the street Kennedy Court and my dad said, “if you do that...I won’t buy the house” ... so there’s a street in Waterloo, Iowa named after my family. When my parents hosted Rudy’s family there, the democrat families around wouldn’t let their kids come over to our house because “those nigger kids” were there. I have pictures of me at one ... with one of “those kids” I call it, “Your hair is nappy” ... because I am reaching out to touch his hair.
I’ll never forget being ten and dancing to Rudy singing “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown.”
I am really very lucky. I left Illinois for DC and over to Europe and back to the East Coast and now am back in Illinois.
And my parents never taught me to hate or fear a thing.
I was born in 1970. I’m sure many on Free Republic are older... but don’t worry. We are going to be the frontlines. We will be united in our principles and we will NOT see color.
Don’t worry.... if there’s a “race war”... no race is going to lose it.
Are you being serious? Because I was looking at you as a sarcastic joke. Maybe it’s just in my nature to laugh at that crap.
It's really annoying to see so many people on both sides getting so hot and bothered about it. It's simply a story, for goodness sake!
I think they have come to believe the hate stereotype they preach about white people. Namely, they are “lilly white”, “white bread”, weak/sissy, can’t jump, guilty, lowly of character, shamefaced, are not united, domestic political terrorists, etc.
Blacks on the other hand are said to be tough, aggressive, proud, angry at whites, racially united, lawless, and morally superior or more deserving of all that is good in life.
These sterotypes give leftist blacks and hispanics a bloated sense of racial power and aggression.
Obama’s gang will organize aggressive voter fraud and beat up poll watchers, commit white voter intimidation and conduct violence against Republican political groups. They will step up attacks on whites as they leave political events as they have already done a couple of times.
Law enforcement agencies have already chosen sides if there is an all out race war. Targeted Whites will be the “domestic terrorists.” Holder said that Whites don’t have equal voting rights and it is alright for black thugs to block them voting. They will try to pull race riots in the Fall and they already said they will burn down neighborhoods and businesses of white Americans.
I think you might want to back ‘er down about a thousand rpms. Not all libs are evil, I know. Yeah, most of them suck, but I don’t run my pals off because we don’t agree on certain things. Hell, my woman has some lib leanings, but I keep her around.
I have a funny feeling that my “lib” buds mostly use it as a way of getting my goat, they are gun owners and pretty conservative in a lot of ways, just won’t admit it because they enjoy messing with me.
But, do what yer heart tells you is the right thing. I won’t judge, and good friends are hard to come by. I don’t have many.
End of.
(you write well, btw)
