Despite an instant, commanding lead in the polls, newly-minted GOP presidential candidate Gov. Rick Perry is already being viewed as unelectable. The panel of reporters on Sundays The Chris Matthews Show reached a general consensus that Perrys loose talk and extreme views will eventually lead the Republican establishment to choose the more moderate, more electable Mitt Romney to challenge President Obama in the general election.
Barely a week into his campaign, the Texas Governor has talked himself into trouble, and not just with liberals and Democrats. While John Heilemann sees Perrys smashmouth certitude as an advantage over Mitt Romney, The New York Times Helene Cooper points out that, eventually, Republicans are going to have to think about beating Barack Obama, not each other. In perhaps the best piece of news for Romney, Cooper says that he is still the candidate that the White House is most worried about.

Kicking off Nascar
The elite media were dumb founded when Bush won again in 04. Remember them doing stories after that on religious people in the United States as if they were some kind of foreign alien that just stepped foot into the country? They had no idea that average folks out there loved God, country and freedom and it shook them up something fierce.
They got shook up again when Brown won here in Massachusetts. They couldn’t believe some guy in a pick up truck would win over Martha, the ice queen.
Let them live in the land of make believe and their own little elite circle if they chose but you know I’m going to be watching Chrissy again the night after the election in 2012 and smiling. :-)
ping......
I know this sounds anathema, but frankly, I don’t care if we nominate the most bat **** crazy RINO out there. Well, that MIGHT be going a bit overboard, but you get the point.
Look, Newt isn’t my first choice, but he has been saying one thing right: if we elect a strong conservative Congress, it may not matter WHICH Republican gets the White House, because the legislative branch will help pull him or her to the right.
Compared to Hussein, Mitt would not be the worst choice. Perry might be better. Right now I like Herman Cain. But I am not picking anyone right now. And I’m not convinced SP will get in.
LIAR LIAR LIAR TAIL ON FIRE......again proving what we know that PERRY...is the MOST ELECTABLE...
The lefties are absolutely terrified of Perry. They know he would almost certainly crush 0 in the general.
So they are conceding that Romney is electable against Obama.
I’m just here for the replies. I can’t imagine that anyone really cares what Matthew’s thinks, but he’s a fun target.
Sarah Palin's own words, by the way.
Just saying.....
Perry will win the nomination, and the Presidency, if Palin stays out.
If Palin jumps in, she’ll split the conservative financial support and vote, and Romney will take the nomination, and the Presidency.
Bear in mind that the above predictions are made by one who has supported Phil Gramm, Bill Frist, and Fred Thompson for the GOP Presidential nomination in prior years.
You got to love the bald who claims, “Well certainly the Republican party is a very idealogogical party right now” LOL. Does he mean the Demrats aren’t? First they float a balloon” that Perry would be the easiest to beat in the general” and now the Sunday talk shows beat up on Perry. I guess he’s our guy!
The Dims know Romney is unelectable because the Dims will demonize Romney on his religion ... they will use religion like it’s never been used before and it will be effective across the political spectrum .
Remember the administration has invested an enormous amount of resources and money on op-research geared solely on a Romney nomination .. their conclusion and narrative for Romney : (Romney = weird)
The Left is pushing the Mittster because they know a huge number of conservatives will never vote for him and their pathetic loser of a president can finish destroying America after his re-election.
If the “Independents” haven’t learned by now that the media will always push their Democrat Party candidate, they are too stupid to be depended on.
Last time around McCain didn't win the nomination. He didn't win anything.
What happened was the conservative vote got split up between candidates more conservative than McCain. McCain won by default.
Actually, the MSM is doing the same thing to Rick Perry they did to Ronald Reagan, and I have a feeling we will have a similar outcome. They are painting him out to be a total buffoon who is nothing more than a raving lunatic.
If he does indeed get the nomination, that absurd caricature will not hold up. The American people will see he is a likable guy with common sense ideas.
He wouldn't win as many states as Reagan did. Demographics won't allow it, but he would have a comfortable electoral victory IMO.
A Perry presidency would be GWBush’s third term.
Just saying.
Not so much that Perry should be the nominee, but the Romney should NOT be the nominee. The more the LSM pushes Romney, the further we should run in the opposite direction. Just my humble opinion. :)
The original poster was saying that Reagan early on was considered unelectable. Early on would be in the GOP Primary. He did quite well in that. The match up between Carter and Reagan is a different matter. As we already know, the polling in that was total garbage. They had Reagan at like 7 million voter deficit.
You are right on the MSM. They always paint our guys as buffoons. I think the public is wise to it and will disregard these caricatures.
