Tropical Storm Irene has developed from Invest 97 in the Western Atlantic Ocean, east of the Leeward Islands.
Buoy Data:
Caribbean Sea
Florida
Isabel dropped a 100-year-old double oak on (or more accurately, through) our bedroom. It took six months and $60K worth of insurance to put everything right. We lived in the basement for most of that period.
A word of caution to hurricane neophytes...Do NOT apply duct tape (or any tape) to your windows. It does not protect anything and it is a beast to remove the adhesive. A complete waste of time, money and effort.
Some airlines are already cancelling their flights.
I’m in Accomack County 12 miles from Chincotague and 9 miles from the Chesapeake. We had plans of spending the weekend in Dover, just got off the phone with my SIL explaining we would see her later in September.
Husband had a service call in Bethany this afternoon and said traffic getting out of the beach area was a bear.
The road that runs along the west side of our property is the line for Chessy storm surge concers, however my northern property line is a creek that runs out to the bay, so I will probably be dealing with some of that.
Oceanside high tide is going to be a beast. high tide at Chincoteague is around 7:30 Sunday morning which is close to when they’re calling for this witch to be about here.
Oh well, we’ll feast well on all the shrimp I bought this afternoon for the trip to Dover and I’ll spend tomorrow and Saturday canning the bushel and a half of tomatoes that were delivered to me this morning.
I love that one! I remember we boarded up for Frances (not going to get caught unprepared after Charley!) and left the boards up for several weeks because we wanted to be sure we were done! Then there was Jeanne....we also lost power during what we called Ivan Jr.
She is a nurse and her husband also works in the medical profession.
They are going to work tomorrow, and will make the final decision tomorrow. I suspect their decision will be made when they order all people off the island.
Can you be more specific as to airlines and locations? Please provide a verifiable link to source reference. We've had a couple of issues already where television news mis-reported and/or somebody didn't hear the verbal info correctly. Best to provide specific details with a verifiable source.
Not a good idea all! Tell them to cancel!
That was my thought...NYC is a walking city and I read that they may also shut down the subways because of potential flooding.
I can’t think of a place I would rather NOT be in during a hurricaine than NYC. Can you imagine evacuating that city or parts of it??
But, as they are friends and adults, and she is determined to go...I am now KEEPING MY MOUTH SHUT. ha.
The eye is completely visible in that radar image. Creepy!
oh my! We were fortunate. I have 60-80 foot trees near the home and I lost one large branch beyond the scatter. The circumference was about 2 feet on that branch but it landed harmlessly in the yard thank Heavens. The attic damage was substantial but not near what you went through.
Just watched the latest track and it on tract to go straight up Cape May peninsula into the center of Atlantic County.
hard to do...they are adults. I gave them the latest alerts, but you know....well, when people have their mind made up...I just talked to her again and she said “Its just going to be a bad storm, and we’ve had that here in Fl.”
She's really worried....natch....as he hopes to stay with the house.
Mornin, NN. Hv had some PC issues, namely bad guys in network and phone, then bad guys in my jeep, and back out with my laptop in 2 minutes 20 seconds, sterile now, but limping along on only 4 machines. Will be in and out as sit develops.
I’m thinking that if FR is down, Irene doesn’t exist...
I can understand her being worried. I don’t know about other areas, but my county has ordered evacuations along the Bay, particularly folks in mobile homes....
I will... LOL!
