Yep and 2 other GFDL model interpolations bring it on top of NYC also.

The GFDL was the last model to leave Florida alone, the last to leave Georgia, the last to leave South Carolina... I think they've incorporated global warming theories as GFDL this year has been only useful for projecting where a hurricane won't go, rather than being the very accurate beast it was.

One good thing, most wind speed projections drop it to a high Cat 1 or low Cat 2 by then, but they add that wind speed projections are not that good this far out.

The wind shear from steering currents, the colder water, and the expending of energy that it gathered in the Caribbean will pretty much ensure that (IF) it reaches land, it will likely barely have hurricane force winds. That said, anyone in that region should prepare for high winds and heavy rain.

Do you live on the OBX?.....It's so lovely there...we took the ferry to Ocracoke a couple years ago....and wandered down to Hatteras and beyond......visited the Lost Colony....

..and (wait for it) it's still lost :)

Loved Kittyhawk.

The wind field for Hurricane Irene has increased again.

Hurricane force winds extend 60 miles from the center.
Tropical storm force winds extend 230 miles from the center of the storm.

Right now, I see Irene’s biggest impact as an over-hyped, overblown ratings grabber that the TWC, CNN, Fox and the local affiliates will soak for every advertizing dollar that they can. Sure, there is a chance that the eye could pass over a major populated area, but right now, I see the eye moving well east of the I-95 corridor and while there will be some wind, rain, and a measurable storm surge, the real impact will be about the same as a nor’easter at worse and in most places, no worse than the non-tropical soaker that we had a few days ago.

No, I don’t live on OBX. I live on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, near Chincoteague.

I’ve never been there, but have been told it is beautiful.

well there are those of us that actually do live well east of the I-95 corridor and do need the info about this storm. just because yo aren’t interested doesn’t mean others aren’t.

I don’t have cable, so the information provided here is immensely helpful to me.

I never stated that I am not interested or that you shouldn't pay attention. My point is that that the major news organizations and their local affiliates have a history of acting like the "boy who cried wolf" in order to drive up ratings even though they know that the storm they are reporting on is unlikely to have nearly the impact that they once thought.

We are now nearly halfway through the Atlantic hurricane season and the global warming alarmists at TWC have an unremarkable hurricane season to hype so far and therefore, they will continue to report Irene as an imminent threat with the potential for catostrophic damage even as the data points more and more to a storm that is likely to move further off the east coast and away from land.

Starting to get a little concerned about the N.E. NYC in particular, if these forecasts hold it is going to be very close.

I could write a book about the folks who post comments on FR hurricane threads over these many years. Statistically, your genre of attitude comes from someone who lives in Michigan, Wisconsin, Idaho, or some other land locked flyover state. Your profile is void of information. You described a recent soaker, so I'm inclined to believe you don't live in Texas. Mr. Anonymous, from where do you proffer these opinions?
