PERRY: WHY I SUPPORTED AL GORE...

In an interview with an Iowa radio station on Monday, the Republican presidential contender explained his role as the Gore campaign’s Texas chairman by saying that “this was Al Gore before he invented the Internet and got to be Mr. Global Warming.”

But in fact, global warming was already a significant theme for Gore in 1987 and 1988 — long before his activism led to several books, a Nobel Prize and a part in an Academy Award-winning film. It was also well before the right gave him the "Mr. Ozone" nickname and talk radio heaped endless mockery on the future vice president.

But you know, Politico has our best conservative interests at heart, so they are really only trying to help us out here.

Perry was specifically asked about this aspect of Gore (and no, the Gore who expressed concern about the ozone was nothing like mr Global Warming joke that he turned into later), and noted that he didn’t agree with Gore at the time on that issue.

I think it’s fine that people are upset that Perry was a 1988 Al Gore supporter and campaign chair — but it taints the evidence to pretend that Al Gore in 1988 was anything like the Al Gore of today.

Still, I think we need to be extremely concerned with what all our candidates were doing in 1988, because that is just so much more important than the destruction of our society and the bankrupting of our nation.

I’ve learned it is difficult at best to persuade people who do not ‘want’ to see the truth of a candidate... but would rather oppose the truth than to admit they are wrong. It is easier to “believe” and “listen” to what they want to hear and see and believe. They did the same thing with Obama.

IMO it’s still early and the public hasn’t seen all who will run, let alone those who will drop out. Unfortunately the media is determining who gets the press and face time...which leaves some seemingly less appealing than they would if they otherwise had the opportunity to be seen and heard more often.

I have one candidate in mind...we shall see...and if that’s a no go I have another in mind...they who are ‘conservatives’ will get my attention. Those who are Rhinos will not and I will oppose them. If a Rhino wins I will be writing in my candidate....for it’ll be all over if we have another Rhino...too many compromises where this country no longer has the “time” to play on the fences.

I admit I’m confused. There was a time known as “before Gore was a scumbag”? As far as I can tell Armand’s little protege has always been a weasel - which makes me leery of Perry’s support for him.

Albert Jr learned all he knew from the master of Liberal Al Sr. His Pappy invented Liberalsim for just for LBJ. LOL. Any Republican who agrees with Gore politics be it current or earlier is not a Republican who will ever get my vote.

Wasn’t Governor Moonbeam in that race as well? I seem to remember having to choose between Jerry Brown and Al Gore — I vaguely remember voting in the democrat party primary that year since we didn’t have a republican primary.

BTW, I actually liked Paul Tsongas, if for no other reason than his “I am NOT Santa Claus” speech.

"I do hope you all realize the Perry bashing through many of these articles is coming from the left is too get us Romney as the nominee."

Sorry, but I'm immune to your little false Hegelian dialectic.

I hope you realize there's not a dime's worth of difference between Romney and Perry when it comes to governing philosophy.

There are actual conservative candidates in the race. One is doing quite well at the moment, and polls ahead of Perry among independents. Why don't the Perry-bots find a conservative candidate to support rather than stumping for this RINO stinker?

Good info here. I'll oppose Perry like the dickens in the primaries and hope I don't have to vote for him in the general.

However, one thing I will not do is fail to vote for anyone who is aligned against Obama.

I think that he has a chance, but it would be an awful choice. As far as I can see, Perry is a charlatan. Has he ever held huge statewide prayer meetings before last week. Had he been doing such things all along, I’d have great respect for that. BUT, if this was the first time, it would make me think that he is going after the chump vote.
BTW, I still think that Palin will be the GOP nominee. Bob

Please nothing wrong with the vaccine. No vaccine is 100% safe. I recomment it to my patients. How many women have you seen die of cervical cancer? I have seen many and it is not pretty. I remember when Hepatitis B vaccine came out. The same people were howling about it cause it prevented a disease that can and is sexually transmitted. It has been a big plus in health care. Have you watched people die of Hepatitis B. I have. Sorry I am not in the anti-vaccine groupies. Vaccines have saved more lives than any other break through in Medicine. We are just spoiled. Go on let your children get sick and die and maybe infect others. I have families that do not vaccinate their children. The only reason they get by with it most the time is that most of the population is vaccinated which protects their children. Nothing is risk free. Nothing. Go back and talk to someone over 60 years of age and see what they though of vaccination for their children. My mother said joy broke out when polio vaccine was made available. It was a dreaded disease before 1960’s.

>>What this guy is telling me, is that at 18 years of age when I first registered to vote in 1969, I was smarter than he was 19 years later.<<

Exactly. I am amazed that here we have Perry, who has more red flags around him than Mayday in Moscow, and people want to excuse and gloss over every betrayal of conservative principles.

Really people? Are you so desperate that you won’t even “vet the candidate?”

Have you really turned into Perrybots this early, evidence be damned? Astounding....

Perry met Al Gorp and knew he was a moron but supported him anyway..
Probably he hasn’t got any smarter..

Unless he didn’t know Gorp was a moron.. in which case he is himself a moron...

The more I read about him,(Perry), the more I know I was right in saying I will not support him.

Yep..that's where I came from too...didn't know much about him at first...did my own digging.

Looks like alot of people will vote for anyone who can beat Obama...which pretty much anyone could. Wonder if they'd vote for Hillary as well? I think they would. It's all about Obama now....not who would do the best job for our country.

I wouldn’t have voted for a Democrat. I remember that election very well.

And unless it’s Perry vs. Obama and I have no other choice, I won’t be voting for him either.

Because the conservative candidates that are currently in the race cannot beat obama.
Perry is a lot different that Romney and I am not a Perry bot.
Remember that in the 2012 election, there is no prize for 2nd place.
Wise up.

I was for Kemp in ‘88, but Gore, though I didn’t pay close attention to the Dems at the time, always seemed like a screwball. Bob

This is utterly ridiculous. It is said that there are two parties, the Democrats who are neo-Marxists and the “Stupid Party” the Republicans. Anyone turning against Perry for something he did nearly a quarter of a century ago is an idiot. If they will not support Perry in the general election they are fools who deserve the hell that will descend upon America in 2012 is Obama wins a second term because of Republican Stupidity.

Good Grief! We in Texas have seen Perry perform for the better part of a decade. If we had seen a “Rino” or a Democrat in sheep’s clothing we would have blown the whistle on him. He is a damn good conservative that should receive the full support of any decent American who wants to save this nation from Obamanism. Get a life and grow up. There is no perfect candidate. Even Reagan was a Democrat at one time as I would speculate many who visit this site. We had the scales fall from our eyes. I suggest the rock throwers here who would trash Perry get a life.

(Don't trust either one.)
