Wisconsin vote tests Tea Party power

Voters have tilted in favour of Republicans in Wisconsin recall elections that were closely watched for signs of a backlash against Tea Party conservatives in a presidential battleground state.
Republican candidates successfully defended four seats in the Wisconsin state senate in Tuesday's elections, retaining control of the senate and holding Democratic gains to only two seats, results showed on Wednesday.
Democrats had organised the recall vote - aimed at unseating legislators - against six Republican state senators after they sided with the Republican governor on a law that took collective bargaining rights away from state workers.
The elections were closely watched, coming ahead of next year's congressional and presidential elections, and was seen as a test of the power of small-government, anti-tax Republicans who won control of the US House of Representatives last year.
The Democrats were livid that Republican Governor Scott Walker and his party backers adopted legislation earlier this year that strips most public workers of collective bargaining rights.
The legislative fight over his plan attracted national attention - and tens of thousands of protesters to the Wisconsin capital, Madison.
Democrats needed to win at least three of the six seats up for grabs in Tuesday's elections to wrest control of the senate from Republicans.
Even if they were to win a third seat, Democrats would still have to successfully defend two other seats they hold in another recall vote August 16 to secure control of the senate.

Hopefully the GOP can get at least one Rat held seat next Tuesday.
Payback Time
In his place will now sit one of the absolute worst examples (or best if you're a far far far left lefty) of a dem/lib/prog/pop pig...one "Mrs" j. schilling.
I am ashamed of La Crosse. La Crosse is supposed to be a conservative town. Not any more. It is now branded as just another WI socialist community. The entire area - having thrown out a wonderful senator and hired a pig - makes me sick. I don't know why the vote turned out as it did, but I'll see if I can take a "deep dive" and find out.
Is this a case of "sour grapes"?? You bet your sweet ass, it is.
We must remember the courage and integrity of those two Republican senators who lost not just their seats but probably their political careers because they fought for freedom and justice in Wisconsin. We need more patriots like these heroes to sacrifice to restore freedom and destroy the democrat party. God Bless those brave souls!
I donated to Kapanke knowing that it was an uphill climb for him. What’s wrong with these people?
That was one of the most biased articles on the election that I have seen.
Letting this line stand is a journalistic crime:
Republicans nevertheless passed the bill, using a legislative manoeuvre that a judge later ruled was unconstitutional.
They did not state that this judge was overruled by the State Supreme Court.
I hope that the results from Wisconsin are predictive of the 2012 elections, they lost 4 to 2.
I donated to his recall campaign and also voted for him.
As to your second question, I surely don't know. I have a home in La Crosse, had lived there for 6 years. It is supposed to be a "conservative" area....not any more. Not by a long shot.
We'll just take to calling it "Moscow on the Mississippi"
I'm sick of the town (pop. = 51,500), and all the dem/lib/prog/pops in it.
I hope next Tuesday goes well. I was listening to a caller this monring on Bill Bennett’s “Morning in America” show...he said this is like the Vince Lombardi days and the Green Bay Packers...”We’re on the 10 yard line but we’ve got to get the rest of the way.” Good on Wisconsin!!!!!
An honest reporter would cease calling it ‘collective bargaining rights’.
I shouldn’t come down to semantics. I know how I would vote regarless of how they describe it.
I donated to Dan and ran his donation link on my website. Can someone on the ground tell me if Dan will run again next year?
“Payback Time”
Are there any FReepers in WI with an idea of how next weeks recall election will turn out. Are there any indications that the jackasses are going to lose any Senate seats?
What are the chances of bagging these two rat next week? Are the odds are good?
How I LOATHE them.
Of all the Republican figures we read about here I would say that Scott Walker is at the top of those we can point to as a role mode. What he is doing in WI, cutting spending while cutting taxes (something Republicans wouldn't do at the national level when in power), luring jobs to his state, is providing an example that defies every liberal economic theory/fairy tale about how to recover from a recession. This puts him #1 on liberals bullseyes list.
For months the MSNBC evening shows run by ex-Air America (socialist) hosts have been trying to rally liberal support to make a example of Walker last night, AND FAILED.
My guess. Libs from Minnesota are fleeing to Wisconsin boarder towns. Of course, they bring the same infection that caused them to leave in the first place.
Good guess. On the surface, it would seem to be logical. However, it ain't the case.
The population of La Crosse has been 51,000 +/- 250 since 2001 (10 years). It is the home (or was the home and world HQ) of Trane A/C...that is until Trane was purchased by a multi-national corporation based in Dublin, Ireland (Ingersoll Rand - heavily union - wouldn't buy one of their products with your money)
The employement in the La Crosse area from Trane alone in 2001 was over 5,000. There are now less than 1,100 left. There were 7 buildings in operation in 2001. Now there is one...and it is half empty.
There is a liberal enclave just north of La Crosse called Onalaska...filled with yuppy dem/lib/prog/pops. La Crosse county (wherein lies Onalaska) went for the pig. Out in Monroe County (mostly rural, small town, farming) went for Senator Kapanke.
Moreover, La Crosse town itself is now filled with lots and lots of state employees....'nuff said on that point.
I truly believe it is time for our great Governor, the Honorable Scott Walker, to begin to layoff state workers. Lots of state workers....to begin with, 10,000 or so. More later.
My guess....republican voters stayed home, and the dem/lib/prog/pops showed up.
The man does have backbone.
