Ya’ know sports are a more important diversion these days.

Back in 2008, we were told the government needed a stimulus package or else the economy would fall apart. They got it and it fell apart anway.
2 weeks ago we were told that Aug 2nd was the drop dead point for increasing the debt ceiling or else the USA would lose its AAA status. It was raising the credit rating was reduced anyway.
Anyone else smell a rat or is it just me?
To: jpsb
More like S&P decides it can no longer take the risk of an inaccurate rating.
The Obama administration, otoh, *has* declared war on S&P.

Anyone seen the administration’s five star general in this war yet? Is he out of hiding this morning? Has to be his longest stretch off tv in a month.

Is there a panic level figured into programmed trading, though? (It certainly is possible.)

Dow/Nasdaq Circuit Breakers 3rd Quarter 2011. Doom protection levels.
These will trigger if significant drops happen and all trading will be suspended for a set amount of time if not completely.
In third-quarter 2011, the 10-, 20- and 30-percent decline levels, respectively, in the DJIA will be as follows:
Level 1 Halt
A 1,200-point drop in the DJIA before 2 p.m. will halt trading for one hour; for 30 minutes if between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.; and have no effect if at 2:30 p.m. or later unless there is a level 2 halt.
Level 2 Halt
A 2,400-point drop in the DJIA before 1:00 p.m. will halt trading for two hours; for one hour if between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.; and for the remainder of the day if at 2:00 p.m. or later.
Level 3 Halt
A 3,650-point drop will halt trading for the remainder of the day regardless of when the decline occurs.

There will be computerized trades set to buy at 11,000. Watch for a bounce a that point. In fact it will bounce twice, once for automated trades, then the second time for manual trades. If it hits 11,000 a third time my WAG says we will keep going lower.

Nobody elected them but they are DEMANDING the USA adopt a dictatorial euro ecconomy with them deciding as the high priests of worthyness.
