A woman claiming to be the niece of infamous skyjacker D.B. Cooper has spoken to ABC News in an exclusive interview about her role in the recently re-ignited 40-year-old cold case that has haunted the FBI for years.
Marla Cooper told ABC News that she has provided the FBI with a guitar strap and a Christmas photo of a man pictured with the same strap who she says is her uncle, Lynn Doyle Cooper.
After clarifying her childhood memories surrounding the incident and more recent conversations with her parents, she is now sure that her uncle is in fact the notorious man who hijacked and threatened to blow up a commercial plane flying to Seattle in 1971, then parachuted to the ground with $200,000 in hand.
"I'm certain he was my uncle, Lynn Doyle Cooper. Who we called L.D. Cooper," she told ABC News.

You gotta know that anyone who pulls off what he did with SUCH style plays the guitar. You rock, DB.
Now it's time for your niece to pimp your memory. But you probably left her the playbook for that, too, didn't you?
Ya, I had also heard he requested the jet to slow down far slower than 500 mph, and to fly below 10,000 feet, and that’s when he made the jump.
But, having said that, he parachuted into cold November weather, into some dense forest, wearing a business suit and ordinary shoes. There’s always been debate about whether he could have survived the jump, and then survived in the wilderness.
I think they recovered some of the money on the ground. Years ago, I remember a report that a few bundles of moldy bills were found.
So we agree he’s a democrat ?....:o)
I AM D.B. Cooper!
Her childhood recollections sound authentic. She seems to have been affected by the tension surrounding some very strange conversations between her uncles and remembered it.
The adults around children are very influential and they absorb the unusual.
Will be interesting to follow this saga.
That was the initial flight ... when he hijacked the aircraft. The NW flight landed in Seattle, Cooper got the $200 thou and the parachute he demanded, the aircraft was refueled and took off for Mexico. Approx. 30 minutes into the flight he jumped.
He didn’t he had them drop.
Jump clubs make “DB Cooper” jumps all the time from the same type plane, too.
He jumped from less than 10,000 feet at less than 200 mph.
Why is she just now coming forward?
Ratting out your uncle, not cool.
Everyone except the FBI knows Hunter S. Thompson was actually DB Cooper!
As a result of this hijacking, aircraft installed an interlock to prevent the rear stairs from being lowered in flight.
That, I can believe.
That’s what was so suspicious about the neice’s story. Her “uncle” changed his FIRST name to escape detection? Ah, yes my fake name is Tonto Hrabosky. You’ll never catch me!
Where’s the body
Thanks, I forgot those details.
Now if we can only address how pickng up hitch hikers on a NV rural road can result in inheritance claims...
