Good for them!
Unfortunately the EPA will probably catch wind of it and shut them down.
The environazis hate mining.
Damn! This could “create” some jobs!
Someone from the EPA or another .gov agency needs to shut down and stop talk of this at once! Perhaps 0bama will arrange for the Chinese to lease the land.
I think we passed through there early in July. Interesting. Have to forward to my BIL that’s from Nebraska.
Look for Obama to turn the entire region into a national park.
Same playbook as Clinton blocking the nation’s clean coal supply under a similar blockade and of course ANWAR.
Future World Heritage site...
LOL, rare earth elements are not rare they are just called that, one of them is a little but there is still supply meeting demand.
Racism! China needs those!
Good! I just bought a slew of NdBFe and samarium magnets and they were twice what I paid three years ago.
bet all they want to do is celebrate....
It’s possible that this prospect will be mined but REEs have been the flavor of the year at the mining expos. As long as Elk River doesn’t increase world supply by a large factor, then the project could be viable, however, some of these projects are large enough to substantially influence the market price of the REE in question so Quantum will want to find a long term contract. If Quantum lines up a long term supply contract, perhaps with the Japanese, then this project would be a go. The grades on the drill hole intervals look good and it would be an underground mine which would make the environazis a tiny bit happier.
By the way, the only reason the environazis have not been out in force protesting this is because they haven’t applied for a mining permit yet, just permits for the drilling and drill pads. They will kick up a storm as they always do. There will be a big stir over the processing of the ore.
While it is good for the country, the hard part is concentrating and separating rare earths. It is terribly hard, because the different elements tend to be chemically similar, and it tends to be very polluting.
The US now has three major rare earth areas, one in California, one in Texas, and this one. But hopefully this one will stimulate the industry to develop better, and less polluting means of refinement.
The easiest way is likely through the use of genetically modified microorganisms and plants, that can distinguish between different elements and selectively concentrate them. This is already being done for some other, toxic metals.
It takes seven years to open a small gold mining operation here in Nevada.
Even in an area that has depended of gold production for a century.
The eco-nuts WILL extort the mining company if they try to begin production.
And just why is it that every time I hear of a new mining venture, it is a Canadian company?
How are the Canadians so able to pursue so many projects American companies apparently cannot?
Something is very wrong here.
“The National Strategic and Critical Minerals Policy Act of 2011”
Not impressed with the author, how about including the ACTUAL BILL NUMBER so we can offer our support!

Found it.

Needs to cut the red tape with an ax, seven years to open a small gold mine is ridiculous.
Should include drilling for oil too, F’ Obammie and his goal of destroying our economy/jobs.
China will be buying Quantum and Nebraska shortly.
which means government hasn't decided whether to tax at 80% or 90%
or whether to declare the ants on any of the mineral lands as endangered.
Wow. I’ve got a couple of Rare Earth albums. They’re probably worth millions now huh?
“The only people more excited than Quantum?”
I’m excited!
