"We've had too much talk the last few days of Republicans as early as this morning, Republican leaders in the Senate saying there will be no revenue. That's not going to happen. Otherwise, the trigger is going to kick in. The only way we can arrive at a fair arrangement for the American people with this joint committee is to have equal sharing. It's going to be painful. Each party if they do the right thing, it's going to be painful for them because to be fair, we have to move forward. There has to be equal spending cuts, there has to be some revenue that matches that," Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) said on the floor of the Senate right before voting started on the debt deal. Increased revenue from taxes was not included in the debt compromise.

That is not true, every thing gets cut not just Defense, it s across the board. Are you telling me there is nothing in Defense that cannot be cut? That’s why I prefer the Mack-Paul plan anyway.

We knew the Bush Tax cuts were going to expire. This has nothing to do with the bill. Any tax increase must be approved in an appropiations bill. There are no taxes in this bill, just the threat of them.

Yes, he read it more closely than the Republicans did. Basically, he will kill any proposal that does not include taxes so that the $500 billion in defense cuts activate. It is a threat I expect him to stick to.

And the GOP can cut off all sorts of funding too. There are no automatic taxes in this bill, NONE.

This is just a shot across the bow, telling the Republicans that they can either vote for tax increases or the Democrats will allow the triggers to kick in. They are banking that Republicans don’t want across the board cuts on things like the military.
Don’t throw me in that briar patch.

Since the military is letting in fags now, I say, cut it. And get out of stupid missions, like Libya.

Automatic cuts, not taxes. Those are not spread evenly, but center mostly on defense.

The Republicans weren't played. They are in on it. Bingo! Hopefully the people will finally wake up, I will not hold my breath on that one tho.

The Republicans again showed us why their nickname is "The Stupid Party". And Boehner (Cantor, West, et. al.) is perhaps the stupidest man to ever be Speaker of the House: He gets that distinction because he had every reason to know that Reid and the Democrats would screw with him and beat him like a dead elephant and still he fell for it.
Someone who is so afraid (of getting blamed for something someone else - read Obama - would do) that they can't function with even a modicum of basic common sense or intelligence has no business being Speaker. It isn't a country club position any longer, the nation is sinking like the Titanic.
It's 11:30 P.M. in America.

Reid is full of shit. I read post after post that said to the effect that there was no way under the sun that the passage of this bill would cause taxes to rise. And that anyone who thought it would was dumber than dumb.

No one was rolled. The weak, effete, Republican elite, led by Crybaby Boehner, share the same goals as Harry Reid and the Democrat leadership, I love it. I am seeing more and more posts, that show people are on to these guys. Finally some clarity.
