"We've had too much talk the last few days of Republicans as early as this morning, Republican leaders in the Senate saying there will be no revenue. That's not going to happen. Otherwise, the trigger is going to kick in. The only way we can arrive at a fair arrangement for the American people with this joint committee is to have equal sharing. It's going to be painful. Each party if they do the right thing, it's going to be painful for them because to be fair, we have to move forward. There has to be equal spending cuts, there has to be some revenue that matches that," Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) said on the floor of the Senate right before voting started on the debt deal. Increased revenue from taxes was not included in the debt compromise.

I heard a few times that the two wars were exempt and the defense cuts, 50% of the total trigger cuts, are to weapons systems and development.
For more details on tax increases in the Joint Committee process, please see my other two posts today.
I didn't see anything in your link that addresses Scottinva's assertion. Can you point it out - or find a link that has the pertinent info? I'd like to see it b/c a ton of people are saying the same thing.
I think it has a rather nice sound.
He has to say this today because the left is boing bonkers over the deal.
Well, for those of us who are among the 50% who pay taxes directly, BOHICA!
Excellent point. We DO need higher revenues to reduce the deficit, but from a strong economy — and JFK, Reagan, and Bush II all showed that the best way to get that is though tax-CUTS.
Did you write that?
I love this line:
“Common sense dictates that when you are in a hole you stop digging and it is America’s ingenuity unmolested by bureaucracy that will lift us from the abyss and not the government.”
So true and very well said.
only thing they left out was the ropes and lamposts...
Well, I am siding with Rush on this one. We will just have to agree to disagree. One way or another we will have tax increases. Should be in appropriations, but then we got spending in obamacare—not appropriations. For these elites, Who cares about What is the constitutional legislative processs?
Right on. Everyone should read the analysis cited by another poster:

0bamacare has nothing to do with this either. Once it is declared unconstitutional by SCOTUS it is gone.
Thank You for the kind compliment.
I'd be grateful if you would spread the link to your friends.
This “Super Congress” is going to deadlock every freaking time - - at least they better.
...Because taxes are NOT going to be raised.
Gee, who saw this coming?
Giving it a nanosecond of thought after what you said, I agree with you.
Thank you.
There were some people who had been trying to get people on this site to understand what all this meant..and it meant tax hikes. I repeatedly said there would be a trigger mechanism that people wouldn’t like
We were bashed.
heckled.
Called Stalinists
Insane.
Trolls
Etc.
Republicans must stand together...blah blah blah
If people on this site refused to see what was coming..how is middle America suppose to understand
Hey, SienaDreaming and MNJohnnie..how you gonna like your tax hikes now
Oh, and th Dow is down 226.59 right now.

I think his analysis is spot on. IMO this session is/was about stopping the monemtium of the rats and banny, the results so far is that the Tea Party has won the arguments and PR battles in spite of the MSM going ballistic. While the results so far have been mostly symbolic. The stage is being set for a Conservative (Read Tea Party) President and a pub Senate. A Tea Party President (Palin I hope) can herd the RINO’ s in the correct direction.
Boy, THAT was a quick committee debate!
The let the trigger begin. We get a BBA vote out of the trigger. The $600 billion in defense spending will be equal to $60 billion a year and then we get to tell grandma that the Rats want to kill her with $600 billion in Medicare cuts.
