Just received a visit from the FBI
7/30/2011 | John Galt - psuedoname

Posted on 07/30/2011 6:17:27 PM PDT by jongaltsr

A couple of hours ago receive a hard knock on the door. I answered the door and about 7 or 8 agents all flashing badges (claiming to be FBI and/or CIA) rushed me and pushed me against the far wall.

My dog attacked and they would have shot him had I not broken free for a second and covered him by laying him on the floor beneath me.

After things calmed down a bit and I received assurances that nothing would happen to him if I placed him in the bedroom and closed the door.

I did so and they then read me my rights and explained that my opinions expressed on Free Republic were the reason they were there. I had expressed my opinion of what I thought of the current President and the majority in congress and was therefore a potential threat to the government. After what seemed to be hours they came to the conclusion (I hope) that I was merely expressing my opinion and not a leader of a counter revolutionary army - as they saw it.

They searched my apartment for weapons and found 4 (which I have not fired in over a year or more) and they seized them for testing. My dog (Ranger) was not happy with the situation so I had to hold on to him during the search to keep him from being shot.

They also seized my computer and downloaded my entire files system. I suppose they also copied any files erased by normal erasure techniques. They returned the computer as "WAS" (as far as I can tell) but I after careful consideration the past few hours I have concluded that they are monitoring me closely.

I'm not even sure this message will make it through but what else can I do but try?

If (Big IF!) this does make it through, beware. They are watching and may make a visit to your residence and give your the same routine.

It really shook me up and I have trouble keeping my nerves steady and my thoughts straight as I write this message.

Once this gets out (IF THIS GETS OUT) I can pretty much expect their return but this time they probably won't be quite as considerate of myself and my dog who they will probably shoot on sight.

I have packed my truck with essentials but I suspect that there are those that are watching so I may not make it to one of my favorite mountain camping sites.

There I will not have any communications except when I get into town and use WIFI to make any contact.

Good luck and keep your heads down.

They have become serious about enforcing their new powers - and some of us might not make it.

I'll probably be #1 on their list.

Semper Fi and God Bless one and all.

But in their defense all those flying trees were old and bored with their lives and had decided to cut loose and go wild.
Rounding them up and getting them back to the assisted tree facility was quite a hassle.

A little of each ...

The little boys were going in and out the back door - *slam* - over and over, and finally woke Frank up, so they can all just go to bed early. May they all someday have neighbors upstairs who do karate at 2 a.m. and neighbors downstairs who have a rock band.

Waking the baby up from his nap is near the top of the list of Things One Must Not Do if one wants to stay on my good side. And I was having a Feline Affection Event with my pal Jake.

The catz had a face-off with a squirrel this morning. Jake was concerned about what seemed to be a tasty prey animal, but was almost as big as he is, but Shannon wasn’t putting up with any smart-mouth from a rodent and persuaded it to leave. This is the first year we’ve had squirrels or rabbits in the yard. The squirrels will get in the bird feeders when we put them up in late fall, I suppose.

Frank has put a dish towel on his head and says he’s a ghost.

Oh, that’s good. We don’t have a Toqueville.

We’re out of Thai food, and wine, but I’m not going to Walmart again until tomorrow.

No mind can be more rational, or more irrational, than another. One mind can be more or less often more rational, or irrational than another. In my occasional lucid moments, I have as much light as Socrates, and in Unreason, I am as benighted as Hitler. In certain moments, it is only by humanity's good luck that I am not empowered to direct the destinies of nations, and in others, that may be a pity. And the same is true of you, and of each of us.

A deep thought from the late, lamented Richard Mitchell, "The Underground Grammarian."

Too heavy for such early reading.
Or too early for such heavy reading.
Or...what was the middle thing?

Coffee and doughnuts?

We had an email from our vacation-landlord ... the house is unscathed, so everything will go as planned.

It sounds fun! It’s been a long time since I’ve been to a beach.

I wish there were a donut shop within walking distance. There is the 7/11 down the street, but the smell of roasting brats *ahem* permeates everything that isn’t in a cold case.

There were some doughnuts at the Walmart, but they didn’t look sufficiently appealing for me to buy them.

The childern have had corn dogs for lunch, and it will shortly be naptime. Frank was up at 0530, *yawn* ...

Hmmmm. That quote from Richard Mitchell is a convoluted expression of relativism made self-refuting by its reference to Socrates and Hitler as manifestations of the two stated extremes. Were Mr. Mitchell correct, Socrates and Hitler would be regarded as equals; remembered for both their wise and foolish ideas alike, but this is not so. For whatever of Hitler's ideas may have been wise were indelibly tarnished by the horrible manifestation of his foolish thoughts, and thus history takes almost no note of them. And whatever of Socrates' ideas may have been foolhardy were so immediately set upon, and vanquished by, the host of his wisdom that history grants them little weight. So Socrates is enshrined, and Hitler is reviled, and both on the basis of their thoughts. So we see that although all men do at different times entertain wisdom and foolishness, such mental excursions to the poles do not establish that the minds of all men are, in practice, equality rational and irrational. Indeed, it is not even the case that every man's mind is equally capable of equal rationality or irrationality, for we know that, although no-one is incapable of irrational thought, there certainly exist individuals for whom rational thought is an impossibility; the asylums are rife with them, as are, I observe, the halls of government. That we all have brilliant, and moronic ideas at various times, is, therefore, no proof that we are across-the-board equals in the rationality of our thinking.

'Tis more the pity that "The Underground Grammarian" has now taken up residence underground for I should have liked to debate him further while his mind were in a condition to be changed; granting, of course, that it were at all open to such. Now, however, the mind of Mr. Mitchell is both beyond our influence, and beyond all need of it. I pray that be not a pity, also.
