The Senate voted to kill a House-approved bill to raise the debt ceiling, leaving the ball in the court of Senate leadership to produce a deficit reduction bill, with just days before the Aug. 2 deadline. The vote was 59-41.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid followed through on his promise to kill the bill, pushed through the House a day late by House Speaker John Boehner. The White House, which has thrown its weight behind a Reid proposal, had promised to veto the bill had it miraculously passed the Senate.
The Senate also killed the Cut, Cap, Balance Act last Friday and has yet to vote on a formal proposal. Having passed two proposals and with little appetite and time to attempt another bill, the House now waits to act on a Senate bill.
I stuck my neck out a mile to get an agreement with the president of the United States, Boehner thundered from the floor after the vote. Its time for the administration and time for our colleagues across the aisle to put something on the table. Tell us where you are!
Brad Dayspring, spokesman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, announced via Twitter that the House will vote on Reids plan Saturday to show that it is not capable of passing. First votes are expected to begin at 1 p.m.

I agree with you on all of that. But FIRST we must stop obama from doing more harm. 2012 is still over a year away. Sarah is my choice. I know what her policies are. This thread is not about Sarah Palin. It is about the rest of 2011 and 2012 until January of 2013...and what happens to this country between now and then.
Then maybe this is it. I don’t have much use for the bushes either, Covenantor. Since clinton, I have chewed holes in my cheeks and given myself headaches from clenching my jaws just trying to get to some daylight...and we aren’t there YET.
I cannot just lie down and give up and allow myself to be so cynical to believe that these men, knowing full well that obama is the end of the United States as we know it, would not try, would not do everything in their power to stop him. That is a doomsday scenario I am just not ready to accept...because the alternative is too terrible to contemplate.
But the house will have to approve anything the senate proposes won’t they?
“FIRST we must stop obama from doing more harm.”

And the way to do that would have been to stand firm behind Cut, Cap and Balance. Obama would have blinked or he would have had to furlough some government workers or shut some agencies. Instead the GOP blinked, passing the Boehner bill which will be the vehicle to get a much worse bill passed next week, as I explained in my first post. The Boehner bill, as it presently stands only cuts SEVEN BILLION DOLLARS from this year’s 3.4 trillion dollar budget. Yet it raises te debt ceiling nearly a trillion dollars, giving Obama the ability to dig us a whole trillion dollars deeper into the hole. That harms the Country in a way that Cut cap and balance (or an outright refusal to raise the ceiling at all) would not have.

Again, Sarah Palin’s future is intertwined with this. She is sitting there watching the GOP Congress give Obama another trillion dollar blank check and wondering how she is going to be able to cut this additional spending once she takes over, not to mention how she is going to deal with the higher interest rates and inflation this is going to generate. It makes her job governing harder.
The anger which this has generated against the GOP by the TEA party also creates a political problem for Palin as well, since it is going to create even greater pressure for a third party that will help Obama get reelected. Many TEA partiers may get frustrated and give up.
Boehner’s bill is a political and policy disaster. It doesn’t hurt Obama a bit. Sorry, but that is the truth.
Laura I. dated Keith O. and R. T,. Oh.
Who cares?
I dated a few dopes before marrying my husband. I imagine lots of people just shake their head at why they did some things in their (younger) life.
I don’t think Laura is a phony. I don’t agree with her on everything...I don’t even listen to her radio show anymore, because I got used to Mike Gallagher (he grows on ya)...But I admire her for what she has accomplished in life and I like her take on lots of things.
You apparently really dislike her. I’d suggest you not listen to her anymore.
Legally yes...and if they are smart they won’t. They will force 0bama hand.
In this particular case he believes the 14th will be his ticket to ‘saving America.’
After that he will think the EO is his ticket to it all.
Don’t doubt me on this, after hearing his speech at La Raza and the base supporting the idea of his control of laws...don’t doubt it.
Seems every time those guys talk to la Raza the are boasting of unconstitutional things like an
Illegal becoming president some day...
We have to stop negotiating against ourselves. It’s obama turn.
Well, at least you have that right. Obama is a symptom and shouldn't be considered the problem.
The problem is big government that demands big spending. It has exceeded its initial revenue stream many years ago. Now it has indebted the citizens of this Republic for years to come. It is taking 1/3 of our GDP on an annual basis and looking to increase this share even more.
Cut big government and its enabler's (Obama, Reid, Pelosi, ...) go away.
Never happen of course, as history is our witness, but you gotta try. It'll be a powerful fight and when you start having successes, expect the fight to move to the streets.
Expect the "machine" to create diversions unimagined and some that are, like economic collapse, war, hunger, poverty - all to remain in power.
Sorry for the reality check...
It's the Spending, Stupid. - Palin
I fully expect this to end up in the streets one way or another. I wish it wasn’t so, but if wishes were fishes....
I don’t even know at this point whether we will even make it to the next election. The rage in America is tamgible. The pressure is building and I am not at all sure it can be stopped, let alone turned around. The corruption is like a festering wound that gets worse and worse by the day. Top to bottom and everything peripherally attached to it. The only way to be rid of it is amputation. If that is the final outcome, I am ready...but I don’t have to like it.
Once government grows to a certain point, it takes on a life of its own. I guess that's why they call it the "beast".
this is all straight out of Obama, pelosi and reids constitution, Alinskys Rules For Radicals, the commie basterds are quintupling down on the debt problem, the republicans are just going along for the ride over the cliff
FWIW: It ain’t over!
Senate Republicans want a 60-vote threshold for a debt-limit bill to pass the chamber, but it’s actually Democrats who are enforcing the filibuster on their own legislation, insisting on delaying a vote until 1 a.m. Sunday morning.
In lieu of a Senate vote, House Republicans themselves will introduce and then vote to kill the Reid plan on Saturday afternoon as a way to try to force negotiations into the next phase.
WORTH REPEATING!

If anyone wants to know what I’m going to do with Harry Reid’s Senate bill, it will be on my kitchen TABLE.
Mike Lee is a good guy and Vitter has always been a reliably conservative vote. Hatch is trying not to be TEA Partied next year.
I think this is one of the all too rare times Grahamnesty stands with us on principle.
WRT it's being a bad bill because the debt limit shouldn't be increased, that's true but even more important is it's bad because it sets up these scummy little committees which will be composed of 6 RINOs and 6 Rats and they will certainly strip the BBA out of it in the interest of compromise.
IMO we should have just said, "We passed a good bill--CCandB--and Reid's afraid to have a vote because his vulnerable senators cannot afford to vote against a balanced budget amendment that 75% of Americans WANT!!!"
The fact that Boehner coughed up this latest nasty blob and forced it through the house rather than go with the infinitely less bad and easier to sell to America first bill tells me the fix is in and we are about to be screwed by our "leadership". They are definitely chipping away at the TEA Party representatives...

You know, all of this discussion apparently has worked. The Boehner 3.0 version has just been released. It’s a large PDF file. I’ve had just a brief chance to go through this. It’s 104 pages and they have to have so many pages just to have room for all the zeros, as they talk about all the trillions of dollars here. The word “trigger” does not appear one time in it. The word “taxes” shows up once but not in the context of raising them. “Balanced budget” shows up four times. Boehner 3.0 basically does: Would pave the way for the debt limit to be raised through the 2012 election in two chunks, but it would mandate that the second increase of the debt ceiling could only occur after a balanced budget amendment passed both chambers of Congress and went to the states for ratification. That’s the big difference in Boehner 3.0.
Repeat:
but it would mandate that the second increase of the debt ceiling could only occur after a balanced budget amendment passed both chambers of Congress and went to the states for ratification. That’s the big difference in Boehner 3.0
Yep, herein lies the immediate problem. The Congress controls the purse strings, conservatives (or so we thought) control the Congress. One would think it a simple matter of steering the ship back to course. Unfortunately, the stormer the sea, the more fearful the sailors. It will take a hearty and brave crew indeed, to weather this storm...
Are the people in Washington, who represent "us", seasoned or at least resolute??? Only a few it seems...
BUT WE DID IT!
Yes You Did. Conservatives across the country owe you folks in Delaware a great deal of thanks for sending Castle out to pasture.
We didn’t win that that seat, but Castle got gone. I want u to know that I contibuted to COD, among several others. I don’t regret one cent of my donation.
And yes, I have gotten some what cynical. We make the investment, DC gets the return. That’s where I’m at right now. I’m not sure it’s possible to change the way DC works.
I witnessed Harry Reid’s press conference where lyed through his yellow teeth and whined and blamed Republicans, as usual. But where the hell is the Republicans’ press conference telling America how Reid tabled BOTH bills and didn’t even allow an up or down vote, that the Reps have submitted to save our economy. Did I somehow miss that presser?
Once again, we have chosen a bunch of wussies (and I’m being nice here) to represent us in the GOP House.
I’m sick of it all.
I liked her until this weeks 180. She was slamming Palin, the Tea Party, sensible thinking people. In our world, dating dopes is easy because you have no idea who someone is until you get to know them. In the DC cocktail circuit, these people all know who everyone is. She voluntarily went out with a liberal old man. It says something about her true mindset and not the one she get payed to sell on the air.
