GOP governor says tax hike on rich has 'devolved into class warfare'

The focus on potentially raising taxes on the nation's wealthiest 2 percent to help ease the financial malaise and provide jobs has "devolved into class warfare," Virginia's governor said Friday.

McDonnell said taxing the wealthy is not the proper path to paying off the country's $14.5 trillion debt because "those people are who make jobs, who take risks, who fund most of the benevolent" charities.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said if the five governors on stage were sent to Washington, D.C., the nation's ills, including the ongoing debt ceiling debate, could be fixed in 30 minutes.

"Cap spending and balance your budget," she said. "It is unacceptable and inexcusable for either party to complain that they can’t do anything about it."

Texas Gov. Rick Perry said the top priority should be electing a president who "knows how to create jobs in the private sector," remarks that were drowned out by applause in the mostly full tent.

Stop spending!

If it weren't for politics and greed, it would be a piece of cake!

Will the idiots ever understand...it’s the middle RICH who create jobs, pay the most taxes already...NOW the ULTRA rich may be another thing....I really do NOT approve of trading funds between billionaires to get tax write-offs...ala Bill Gates and Warren Buffet.

Right now the only people who aren't paying their fair share of taxes are the poor, who pay nothing. Yet the poor are doing their fair share of the voting. Something isn't right.

It has ABSOLUTELY turned into class warfare. I have been reading a lot of threads on Facebook and community/national forums. There is a backlash against rich people and it runs deep.

All of a sudden the rich have become the evil.

Big problems ahead for this nation.

It is more than class warfare. Obama cannot succeed in converting our country to a socialist Utopia without the destruction of conservative investors, who have the means to create jobs. Obama wants only the Unions and the government to create jobs, which is why unemployment is so high, and ongoing.

It was the same in Europe prior to WWII, Mussolini and Hitler had to destroy the conservative investment class, and they did so with anti semitism, the unions, political correctness, confiscatory taxes, public attack and villification. Pretty much the same way Obama is operating.

The debt ceiling debate is about far more than mere fiscal responsibility.

When people say that 50% do not pay any income tax I have to ask the question:

WHY NOT ??

I think the outrage is primarily pointed at the less than 1 percenters, who are demographically mostly bankers (who do not own small businesses or create jobs) who were completely balied out for the foreclosure mess while many average Americans lost their homes. I’m a strong conservative and always will be, but the super rich bankers with huge international ties aren’t always ethical nor are they a sacred cow in my eyes. While most of the country has suffered, the big bankers have mostly at least broke even, if not prospered greatly, and many ordinary folk are simply keen to it.

Merchants have no country. The mere spot they stand on does not constitute so strong an attachment as that from which they draw their gains.

-T. Jefferson

Sure, indeed there is class warfare. Ala, the golden rule. Who has the gold makes the rules.

The commons see what is going on with the political class and big business. The frustration will only get worse.

“GOP governor says tax hike on rich has ‘devolved into class warfare’”

Why Not?

“They’re” “taxing” (punishing?) cigarette buyers at the cash registers, aren’t they?????

And likely dozens of similar examples could be cited—I see little difference while both gubmint and the public sees nothing wrong with either!

Time to play life straight—all hands for all hands!

Semper WTF!

I strongly support capitalism and despise socialism. But when General Electric is paying zero federal taxes, and tax breaks are being given to companies for offshoring their operations, there is a serious problem at the top, likely on both sides. The only hope for this country now is a rise of right-minded independents who hold the extremes of both parties accountable. And I say this as a previously devoted Republican, who feels the elites sold out the rank and file when they got their chance.

Dear “Rick”

The government does not “know how to create jobs in the private sector”

the government needs to get OUT OF THE way and let the private sector grow and create jobs

there, fixed that
