Senate rejects 'Cut, Cap, Balance'
Politico ^ | 7/22/2011 | By SCOTT WONG

The Democratic-controlled Senate on Friday narrowly voted to block a Republican measure that would force Congress to pass a stringent balanced budget amendment and cap spending before increasing the debt ceiling.

The legislation, a conservative priority, never had a chance of passing, but the strictly partisan 51-46 vote to table the “Cut, Cap and Balance” bill highlighted the partisan divide in Washington over how to tackle spending and raise the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt limit.

“strictly partisan 51-46 vote”

Suggestion to the House Republicans:

- Let things get “a little hotter”.

- Rewrite the “CCB” bill. Change it from “Cut, Cap, Balance” to simply “Cut & Cap”. Get rid of the “Balanced Budget Amendment”. That simply isn’t going to fly, budget crisis or not. No way, no how. The core of conservatism is “realism”, so let’s be realists, ok?

- Revote on “CC” in the House and send it to the Senate and force a vote there.

- Without a “forced commitment” to the amendment, and under increasing pressure, that might just get the two votes needed to win.

Just guessin’.....

Shutdown? Considering a "shutdown" will still pay the basic obligatory bills (debt interest, SS checks, military, essential services), the Right needs to make clear that's where we want to be - we can get what we want by doing nothing at all. The Left & Center can reject CCB if they like, but that's the closest to what they want that they're gonna get; they don't want it? fine - we end deficit spending outright the hard (well, easy for us) way.

The debt limit is the law.

The republicans offered an alternative and the democrats rejected it.

The republicans don’t need to do anything more.

You hit the nail on the head!

I’m sick of it! I want to puke every time I see yet ANOTHER pregnant leech (of all colors) dragging two and three kids around barely out of diapers. I know damn well who is paying for it! And where is the SPERM DONOR?!

We get up every day, GO TO WORK, we mow our own yard, clean our own home, PAY OUR BILLS, etc. while these leeches lay around all day on their asses and collect money redistributed to them from hard working TAXPAYERS!

NO, we do NOT need to send more money to Washington!!!

They need to figure out that we are SICK OF IT!!!

The Senate Democrats did not just "reject" CCB, they voted to table it: to not amend it, to not debate it, to not even consider it.

Note that the Senate Democrats have now voted down all three budget proposals that have been put on the table:

1 - Paul Ryan budget plan

2 - Barack Obama budget joke

3 - Cut, Cap and Balance

YES Boehner needs to bring up a bill today that says interest on the debt, Social Security, Medicare, and military pay and benefits shall be paid in full from current income “

Strict Party line vote - tells me the House is holding the line - marginal Senate Democrats have enough cover to vote no.

Agreed. The mobster in chief will in no way allow the Balanced Budget Amendment move forward, esp. as he has no say in its approval should it pass the Senate.

Isn’t this really the biggest news of the day. The media acts like it isn’t a big deal. Why?

Because Obama framed this vote as not important

WE need to MAKE this breaking news - IMPORTANT. Otherwise we have just played right into Obama’s hands. Acting like this isn’t important.

This should be the breaking news story of the week.

Democrats REJECT a balanced budget

To be really mean they could pass a bill saying that no federal money can be used to provide security for the first family during vacations other than at the White House, Camp David and their Chicago home.

Notice how lock step the (D)s are in raising taxes before an Election. Notice how unified they are against Balanced Budgets (or budgets of any kind except more Spending).

Wonder how this will do at the Polls.

Interesting way to campaign don't you think?

Without the “B” part there’s no teeth in the bill. “CC” when carried forward over the next decade would easily be ignored/altered by the then elected congress. The “Balance” part as envisioned as a constitutional amendment (read “Law”) would require any and all congresses to fulfill their responsibilities.

Indeed. The motion to proceed to TABLE.

They voted on this:
Question: On the Motion to Table (Motion to Table the Motion to Proceed to Consider H.R. 2560 )

The Senate voted to table CC&B. Fitting that a "yea" vote means no here. We're living in a bizzaro world.
