Senate rejects 'Cut, Cap, Balance'

The Democratic-controlled Senate on Friday narrowly voted to block a Republican measure that would force Congress to pass a stringent balanced budget amendment and cap spending before increasing the debt ceiling.

The legislation, a conservative priority, never had a chance of passing, but the strictly partisan 51-46 vote to table the “Cut, Cap and Balance” bill highlighted the partisan divide in Washington over how to tackle spending and raise the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt limit.

Obama can pay or not pay almost anything he wants. The law just says the SS Administration has to send the information about what is to be paid to whom that month to Treasury Dept. on time. It doesn’t mandate that Treasury Dept. send out the checks.

There defense is, a vote to continue debate is not a vote against anything, they will say there were some parts that needs fine tuning, same old crap different day.

Won't fly - if there were parts to fine tune, they debate to define such tunes. They voted to not even debate.

The Dems are hung it seems

Consequences? They would have to shut down a bunch of do nothing agencies?

Right. So such down the FAA, grounding all commercial air traffic. Close all the courts and shut down the FBI. Bank robbers and drug traffickers get a pass. No more money to pay Federal prison guards, so Federal convicts get released on the streets. No more money for section 8 housing vouchers, so you're going to start seeing lots more homeless people in your neighborhood.

Worst of all: no more border partrol. You think the border is a sieve now? Just wait to see what happens when the border patrol is told to go home.

Not worried about the military? It's ture we'll have enough money to pay soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen their salaries, but if we pay the bondholders, social security and medicare recipients too, we'll not have enough to pay for bullets and the gas that fuels tanks and Humvees. So soldiers get their money, but they can't fight. That's great.

And then you can be assured that our credit rating will be lowered.

I'm amazed at how many conservatives have failed to think this through.

Oh BTW there is no SS fund except on paper. All SS payments are from current income.

Let’s all call/fax Harry Reid’s office and ask him where his plan is...!!!

Just got off the phone with a Reid assistant and I almost had a stroke by the time I hung up. I prefaced the call by saying, “As someone who supported Reid...”

I asked “Where is Harry's Plan?” He said that Reid supports the “gang of six” plan. I pressed him to give me the details on it, he really could not.

Then he went into some argument how the reason we have HIGH unemployment is due to gov’t cutbacks already.

Oh MY GOD!! I couldn't believe my ears. I immediately said, “The gov’t is the only sector increasing jobs, the PRIVATE sector is the one getting destroyed.”

He then hung up on me. Can you believe this is what our RATS our telling their people?? That the reason for the high unemployment is because of gov’t cutbacks??

UNFREAKING BELIEVABLE!!

Not a parliamentarian here...

can this same bill be brought up later for a vote? If so, that’s what will probably happen when the shet hets the fan on the D’s phone lines. Health care summer all over again.

I am pretty sure that the president can pick and choose what gets shut down. We’ve been here before. I’m, surprised so many here have forgotten.

“I’m amazed at how many conservatives have failed to think this through.”

You’ve spent a great deal of time supporting Hussein “citizenship” and telling us not to waste time and energy about it, and now you’re all concerned if we don’t increase Hussein’s blank checks?

BTW, what’s with the messiah’s fraudulent SSN?

What were we calling these people, was it “concerned trolls”?

Yes. This was not an up or down vote. This a vote to not take a vote. That's why Dems voted YES, GOP voted NO.

No they voted to cut off debate, there is no rule that says they really need to be debating to cult off debate. Never read Roberts rules of order, it will drive you over the deep end.

I would love to see Obama splaining to all the SS retirees why he couldn’t send out the checks. I don’t think it would ever happen. Soetoro loves to threaten but he doesn’t have the you know what’s to actually do it. He counts on the GOP to cave in and so far they have never failed to perform.

Oama and the RATS reckless spending got us into this mess. The Pubbies should sit on their hands and let the debt limit catrasrophe fall on Obama’s watch. Either way the MSM will roast the Pubbies. Obam will pay SS recipients as well as the military and medicaire. If the RATS refuse to cut spending screw them. It makes no sense to keep borrowing more money to continue to fund a corrupt government.

FWIW, I haven’t seen them cave on this (yet?) but I think this is it.... They have to stand or they will lose seats big time and we’re done. That’s why we’re all of a sudden seeing such big concerted Big Media lies, and Boehner needed to call Rush to get the news out yesterday. Maybe he should call Rush every day with status.

The House doesn't have to do anything. The Senate didn't take a vote on Cut, Cap & Balance. They voted on whether to not take a vote. Dems voted YEA, don't take a vote. GOP voted NO, take a vote. It's just been set aside in a sick, sad maneuver.

The media are lying already by saying the bill failed. The bill didn't even get a vote! Now the Senate hopes pressure comes off.

The question is, why didn't Reid just have an up or down vote on Cut, Cap & Balance? Was it tabled "just in case"?

I think they would be unable to stop the train. It’s too big to stop the issuance of checks and the posting of credits to people’s bank accounts.

They could shut the computer systems down maybe, but not without consequences and clean up later.

Before it was the Krauthammer Plan it was the Pat Buchanan Plan. Credit should go where credit is due.

If Buchanan knows anything he knows how to stick it to the dems.
