Is anyone surprised? The vast majority of those who belong to or support the military are not part of the Liberal constituency. But they’re working feverishly to change that.

Obama Pledges Cuts in Missile Defense, Space, and Nuclear Weapons Programs

February 29, 2008 :: News
MissileThreat.com

A video has surfaced of Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama talking on his plans for strategic issues such as nuclear weapons and missile defense.

The full text from the video, as released, reads as follows:

Thanks so much for the Caucus4Priorities, for the great work you've been doing. As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.

First, I'll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[not win it -etl]

Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.

I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.

I will not weaponize space.

I will slow our development of future combat systems.

And I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.

Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert [they are NOT on "hair-trigger alert" now -etl], and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.

You know where I stand. I've fought for open, ethical and accountable government my entire public life. I don't switch positions or make promises that can't be kept. I don't posture on defense policy and I don't take money from federal lobbyists for powerful defense contractors. As president, my sole priority for defense spending will be protecting the American people. Thanks so much.

2008 Pentagon Report (March 2008):
China's Growing Military Space Power

By Leonard David
Special Correspondent, SPACE.com
March 6, 2008

GOLDEN, Colorado — A just-released Pentagon report spotlights a growing U.S. military concern that China is developing a multi- dimensional program to limit or prevent the use of space-based assets by its potential adversaries during times of crisis or conflict.

Furthermore, last year's successful test by China of a direct-ascent, anti-satellite (ASAT) weapon to destroy its own defunct weather satellite, the report adds, underscores that country's expansion from the land, air, and sea dimensions of the traditional battlefield into the space and cyber-space domains.

Although China's commercial space program has utility for non- military research, that capability demonstrates space launch and control know-how that have direct military application. Even the Chang'e 1 — the Chinese lunar probe now circling the Moon — is flagged in the report as showcasing China's ability "to conduct complicated space maneuvers — a capability which has broad implications for military counterspace operations."

Guns versus butter and butter wins every time. The demise militarily of Great Britain and the welfare states of Europe demonstrate how great powers decline when confronted with the costs of the welfare state. It is inevitable that it will happen here as well. We can no longer afford both guns and butter. The US is in decline as a global power.

"What is true is that given the rising number of seniors and given the huge escalation in health care costs, that if we don’t structure those programs so that they are sustainable, then it’s going to be hard for the next generation to enjoy those same kinds of benefits.

I got a crazy idea. Why don't we let people those people sign up for the same health care plan you and Members of Congress have?

We never hear about an elderly Congresscreep scrounging through dumpsters for half-eaten cans of dog food for sustenance.

Typical false dilemma (”it’s a choice between the fat-cat military and the starving poor!”). I work for the Missile Defense Agency (I’m a contractor), and people are being laid off left and right. How many food-stamp recipients have had their food stamps cut?

There are plenty of useless programs that should be cut, but you’ll never hear Obama (or any other Democrat) mention them. Let’s start with the National Endowment for the Arts...

My daughter works at a grocery store and I hear the stories about what these lazy fat a$$es get. It’s not healthy and they are even able to get money back to buy cigarettes and booze!! Yeah, we can’t cut that, but defense of our country? We can certainly slice that. I have a compromise, we’ll send all these lazy SOBs into the military. Their food stamps can be their paycheck. I’ll even break out my smokey bear and put on my old drill instructor’s gear and help train them. Free of charge....

The whole purpose of Uniting these states was to form a common defense, it was not to feed or clothe the poor, lazy, and liberals. That is what the church and your neighbor was for.

given the huge escalation in health care cost

Wait a min President 0, I thought 0care was going to fix all this problem with Health Care costs. Are you finally telling the American people the truth? That rather then fix the issue, your program of 0care massive exasperates the problem of costs?

That is not even a little bit surprising. After all, it WAS Barack Obama saying it, and defense spending is specifically authorized by the Constitution; food stamps are not.

The US has regularly been setting monthly records for number of food stamp recipients during the Baraqqi regime.

Surely this will make for some good campaign commercials in 012.

How about eliminating those 100,000+ new gov’t jobs you created - jobs that we were getting along without just fine. AND dumping all those illegal czars and their enormous salaries and bennies.

How about freezing the politicians COLA’s, like you did Seniors.

How about closing down your illegal op in Libya?

How about closing some of the redundant departments in DC?

How about going after the billions in Medicaid fraud?

How about culling out some millions of young, able bodied slackers that are receiving SSDI and 100% FREE medicare (no co-pay, deductible, etc) because they're a druggie/alcoholic/"bi-polar" etc...that are draining our SS...or take their freebies out of a general fund, not our of what we seniors spent 50 years pre-paying for? (and we STILL pay into Medicare: over $100 a month taken from our SS, yearly deductible, 20% co-pay, office visits not covered. You give all that FREE to the slackers.

How about an Executive order that says any laws passed by Washington politicos shall also be binding on THEM? Also bringing their salaries down to the level of the people - you know, make them truly ‘representative’ of the people?

How about - getting the he*l out of OUR HOUSE?

Yeah, I agree. The problem with our debt is NOT from entitlement programs, it’s discretionary spending. So, leave the safety net and cut the other budgets, get business going so those who want a job can have a job. It is folly to cut into the safety net when there are no jobs to be had.

The really stupid part about this is that about 35% of our military forces are on food stamps themselves....cut the military budgets and soon you’ll hit the soldier’s pocket books and they can’t afford the food stamps!!!
