Speaker Boehner Calls the Rush Limbaugh Show, Says There is No Deal on Budget
RushLimbaugh.com ^ | 07/21/2011 | Rush Limbaugh

RUSH: We're so happy to have with us the Speaker of the House, John Boehner. I'm glad that we had a chance to talk to you here, Mr. Speaker, because people are confused with all of these leaks as to what's going on.

SPEAKER BOEHNER: Well, Rush, there is no deal. No deal publicly. No deal privately. There is absolutely no deal. Our focus --

RUSH: Are you talking about a deal, though?

SPEAKER BOEHNER: Pardon me?

RUSH: Are you talking about a deal in secret?

SPEAKER BOEHNER: Our focus right now is getting the Senate to follow us in the House and pass cut, cap, and balance. I believe that we've got to act to prevent a default and to prevent a downgrade of our nation's credit rating, and the best way to do that is to enact cut, cap, and balance. But let me be clear: I believe that is the best course of action. I've said all the way along that we've gotta keep the lines of communication open. That's why Leader Cantor and I have talked with Mitch McConnell. We've talked to Nancy Pelosi. We've talked to the president. We talked about fallback options if in fact cut, cap, and balance does go down; and I do think it's our obligation to have a fallback plan if that doesn't work.

RUSH: Well, but that's what everybody is worried about: What is the fallback plan? A congressional aide is out there today saying that the deal's been struck. He's unnamed, he's on Fox, he's saying, "It's $3 trillion of cuts with no tax revenue." National Journal says three trillion in cuts with "insignificant" tax revenues. So a lot of people out here are of the opinion that Obama is the one who ought to be caving. He's the one that doesn't have a plan. He's forcing you to compromise with yourself. He's done great damage to the economy, and people want it to stop.

SPEAKER BOEHNER: I understand. I'm concerned about the nation defaulting on its credit rating. I'm concerned about us not doing anything about our debt, which will cause our credit rating to fall -- and which then would mean everybody's interest rates go up. I think that's irresponsible. Frankly we've had looked at a half a dozen fallback plans. None of which, none of which, are all that appetizing. That's why we continue to support cut, cap, and balance.

RUSH: So you're convinced that a default would make us unable...? We were to be unable to service our debt if there's a default?

SPEAKER BOEHNER: I'm concerned that we're getting into uncharted territory that could wreak great havoc on our nation, and I don't think it's necessary to get into that unknown zone and take the chance -- and I, frankly, believe that we've gotta find a way to cut our budget deficit, cut our debt, and balance our budget.

RUSH: Why is it not Obama's responsibility to do that? He's the one that's put us in this position.

SPEAKER BOEHNER: It would have been nice if the President would have put a plan to the table months ago, but the President has refused to put any plan on the table. It's obviously been driving me right up a wall.

RUSH: He wants you to take the heat for whatever happens.

SPEAKER BOEHNER: Yeah, but I think at the end of the day he knows that he's the commander-in-chief, he's the president of the United States, and HE will take the heat.

RUSH: Well, a lot of people are concerned that you are his lifeline to reelection and that that's how he sees you, and that if he can get you to act in any way that can be portrayed as a cave that he wins, and that's what people are deathly afraid of.

SPEAKER BOEHNER: Rush, I'm trying to do what I taught my kids to do; the same thing my parents taught me to do: You do the right things for the right reasons, good things will happen.

RUSH: All right, Speaker Boehner thanks much.

SPEAKER BOEHNER: Thank you, Rush.

RUSH: I wish we had more time, but we don't. Thanks very much for the time here. END TRANSCRIPT

Obama himself is starting to wobble (showing willingness for short-term deal).

As far as “long term” cuts, they never work, so the best way is to cut as much as possible now. If they want to throw in long term stuff to capitulate some people fine...

Rush was NEVER a “Republican party hack”, but there never was a reason for him to back any other major (or even minor) political party. Remember, first a conservative, then shop around for the best vehicle to carry that message to the general public. The Democrats would for sure never accede to that duty.

But the Republicans have not always been politically reliable in regards to the conservative message, which is limited government, taxation at less than onerous levels, and just generally getting out of the way to let capitalists do what capitalists do best - raise the standard of living for EVERYBODY, providing plentiful and useful goods and services at affordable prices. Competition and always leaving the option to fail on the table are the keynote criteria of any viable capitalist system.

Anything else is a cartel.

And just HOW long have YOU been a Rush “listener”. I started in 1989 and was at “Dan’s Bake Sale” in 1993 @ Ft Collins, CO. Rush has ALWAYS been a GOP lover/backer(- a few weeks after the 2006 Mid-Terms).

Southack, the man made an argument. If you look at the comments following, others are discussing this. You, on the other hand, did not offer a counter-argument, nor add to the discussion. What you did is what the Liberals routinely do, call people names. You don’t usually post like this and so I gently pointed out what is abhorrent behavior on your part. I enjoy your posts and was surprised at this one.

Our only hope is to get through to the Dem Senators who are in red or purple states. Their constituents must call them and get them to vote for CC&B. They need to see 0bama as the sinking ship and if they want to survive they have to get on board with the GOP. Chances? Slim to none. But that is the battleground.

Also, every GOP Senator has to be told to vote for it or the tea party will take them down in the next election. The public wants this and a vote on record by the GOP will help in 2012.

The Republicans are forgetting that its the Senate Democrats that are facing the big heat. We can finally force them on the record for supporting Zero’s tax and spend ideology and yet we see the Rinos working eagerly to undercut their own party.

Rush went in the tank when George the Elder let him sleep in the Lincoln Bedroom. But at least he now admits, even if only when pressed that George the Younger is no conservative.

Some self proclaimed conservative hosts don’t even do that.

Rush hasn’t been the same since the divorce from “Marta” and his drug addiction. He needs to go away quietly. We have advanced well past him and his “schtick(sp?).

He can demand all he wants...Reid holds the keys to the door and he ain’t unlocking it.

The problem is there are 3 Republican plans out there so Obama has already divided the party which is what the democrats want.

They need to unite behind CCB, go 24/7 with Rubio and a few others who are “made for TV” and hit every news outlet...even the ones we don’t like, otherwise it’s a lost cause since we do not control congress or the white house

Well, at least Rush gets it!!!

Does Boehner? Well, we’ll see.

As posted before, if Boehner doesn’t cave and Obama does, Obama loses (liberals get mad).

If Boehner doesn’t cave, and Obama doesn’t either, Obama loses (default, independents permanently walk away).

Hopefully Rush spelled that out with sufficient clarity such that Boehner understands....

He said he had to have a fall back plan, a real man would have said, here I stand the only way I move is on my shield. We have won this battle. Time for the losers fall back plan.

Never go to battle prepared to lose, it makes you look like a fool.

If it passes the Senate and Obama vetos it, then he takes responsibility for the govt. shutdown. If he signs it, then it’s a GOP victory and the left will crack up.”

Right on. That is sort of another way to state Rush’s main point.

The only way we lose is for Obama to convince Boehner to cave. (Which caving would also ensure that Boehner will be ousted as Speaker).

(Of course, in a sense, if Obama doesn’t cave, we also lose b/c the US would go into default....and we would sort of be in uncharted territory. But politically speaking...)

Define “Sigificant”...

We are already $1.4 TRILLION in the hole, and most Obamacare spending doesn’t even begin until 2013.

The Republicans are forgetting that its the Senate Democrats that are facing the big heat.

Especially the dim senators who are up for reelection in 2012.
